  1. I brought my original documents that I had with my application but only left it in he car, just in case they asked. But in my case they only took the oath notice letter (with answered questionnaire at the back) and my green card. But if you have reentry permit you must bring too.

  2. Had my oath yesterday, 88 people were sworn in from different countries. The ceremony was scheduled at 9AM but they started at 10AM. We got there 8:20 and there's a lot of people in the line already. They started to let the applicant in by 8:45AM. At the line one immigration officer was checking the oath notice letter, the one you have to answer after your interview, good thing I asked here if i can fill that up already before going to the ceremony and mostly i got a response that better to fill it up before your ceremony to save your time. By 9:30AM they let the guest in, another immigration officer reminded us how to sign the certificate and advised to check it if all the information is correct before leaving the place. Aso she told us it's better to sign it at home since you will be relax and to avoid mistake. By 10AM the federal judge arrived and started the ceremony. After the oath of allegiance he congratulated us and told we were officially a US citizen. We had 3 guest speakers and after that, the ceremony ended. The ceremony took only 20 mins. After the ceremony we went to SS to update my record but according to them it will take 4-6 weeks before my new card arrive since they have to verify my citizenship since it's only new. Then we went to apply for passport. Finally I'm done. Thank you VJer's for all your help.

  3. Finally yesterday I had my interview here in New York City (Federal Plaza). They didn't let me any time earlier before my scheduled time, so I had to wait a little bit outside of the building. When it was time to get in, I found a lot of crowd in the waiting room. they also gave me a warning that interviews could run late up to 2/3 hours. i deposited my interview letter and waited my name to be called. I was kind of concerned viewing many candidates going to their interview with their lawyers! Anyway, I was called after 2 hours by an extremely nice smiling interviewer who had some kind of thick accent though (I have problems with foreign accents in general) and spoke extremely fast. But I managed this fine. So, I took an oath to say the truth and then the interviewer went through most of the questions in the N-400. Everything was alright, except that the interviewer noticed several trips and asked why I have been traveling so much. The reason I have been traveling so much is that I go to see my family very often. No trip was over few weeks (I have a job here in NY!), so it was not an issue at all (only trips over 6 months are not allowed), but too many trips my raise concern about the actual residence in the US. BTW my interviewer checked all the stamps in my passport, and figured out that all the information i gave in the Form were extremely accurate. Another topic of discussion was why i had applied 90 days before the continuous residence requirement was met (i said that this is allowed based on the naturalization guidelines and that i wanted to apply as soon as I was allowed to do so). Then i took my civil test. I was asked who is the speaker of the house, who lived in the US before the Europeans came, how long is the president in charge, what's the name of the first 10 amendments, and another one i don't remember. then i had to read, and write "the people elect the congress". In the end my interviewer proposed me for approval!! :)) yeeeeeh !!! then I waited for the final approval for another 2 hours in the waiting room. In the end I was called by another guy who gave me my oath letter confirming that I had final approval. Overall it was a nice and pleasant experience, but as you can all imagine, there are many applicants here in NY and the wait was very long (about 5 hours overall). Now, I don't want to scary anyone, but my impression was that many people failed their interview! In fact, there were way many more people in the main waiting room waiting for their interview then the people waiting for final approval and oath letter in the back of the room (2 different seatings). A guy told me that his interviewer had failed everybody before him. I think it all depends on the information in each application (each case is different), and how somebody passes the civil test, which is easy buy you have to study few days to pass it. That's it. I hope this info is useful. My oath will occur next week! :)) Thanks for all the info you guys exchanged in the last few months and good luck to all of you that will be interviewed in the next few days!

    Congratulations Marcnycity, Great Job

  4. It is not taking too long right now. see my timeline below for actual dates.

She will come on a IR-5 visa and will get a 10 year greencard shortly after she arrives in the USA. She will not have to file for AOS as she is entering on a Immigrant visa.

Thanks, another question, I seen DS-3032 in your timeline, what is this? do i need to submit also along with I-130? How much does it cost, is it included in the $355 for the I-130?

  5. Hi Guys,

Next week I will have my oath taking, I know after that I am eligible to petition my mom, If I petition her, how long the average timeline for her to come here? Also, granting the visa is approved, will she received a green card once she entered the US and how long is the Green card. Do i need to adjust her status too once she is here.

    Appreciated your help

    Thanks

  6. Hi,

I got my Oath Ceremony Schedule and in the paper it says that to bring this letter, with all the questions on page 2 answered. Then when i turned the page 2, it says that " You must answer these questions the day you are to appear for your citizenship oath ceremony." I am confused wheather to answer these questions at home before going to the ceremony or during the ceremony. Need some advise please..... Thanks

  7. When I had my interviewed I bring all the original documents that I included in my application plus the 2008 Tax transcript since when i filed my application back in February our 2008 tax wasn't done yet. Then during my interview none of them were asked, except for my green card. I read some post here that some IO asked for the recent tax document defending how the mood of your IO will be, I think it's best to bring what you think the necessary documents your IO might ask. It's better to be safe that sorry.

  8. Finally I got my Oath Schedule today

  9. I don't have the details yet, but passed the interview. Oath was a few hours after the exam. Seems like it depends on local office. Some do it the same day and others do it at a later day.

Wow, amazing!!! you're a US citizen now. Congratulations

  10. It's my turn now to write my succesful interview experienced.

My appointment time is 1:30PM and we got there by 1:20PM. I was with my husband and my2 kids, I asked the guard if they can accompany me inside but the guard said that only the applicant is allowed, they can wait by the waiting room area but since they will have oath ceremony @ 2PM for the applicant from the neighbor island they have to leave too, so my husband decided to just stay outside and bring our kids to the nearest shopping area.

As i showed my appointment letter the guard instructed me to wait in the line and wait for my turn to be called. After few seconds i was called by the lady infornt asking for my appointment letter and she gave me number and asked me to go inside the waiting room. There were 6 people waiting already and @ 2PM my number was called. The lady officer greeted me politely and asked me to raise my hand.

She go over my application, She asked for my passport and green card but she didn't look at my passport. Also i brought my recent 2008 Tax transript since when i filed my application back then in February our tax wasn't finished yet, and a lot of supporting documents like bills, bank certificate, vehicle registration that i didn't included when i submitted my application, just in case the immigration officer asked for it but not even one she asked for any documents, oh well... better prepared than to be sorry. Then she asked if i wanted to change my name and i said NO then asked me to sign the paper exactly the way my name without abbreviation as well as to sign my picture, Then she start asking how did i get my greencard, if i have kids and asked the YES and NO portion of the application. Then she asked me to read "HOW MANY SENATORS DO WE HAVE" and have to write "WE HAVE 100 SENATORS". Then asked the following civic questions exactly what's in the reviewer.

    1. There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them?

    2. During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?

    3. What is one reason colonists came to America?

    4. What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?

    5. Who is in charge of the executive branch?

    6. If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

She wrote down my answer in the paper next to every question. Then she said CONGRATULATIONS you pass your interview. I asked when can i have my oath ceremony since we are planning to have a trip on September but she said they will mail the date and time within 2 - 3 weeks i should be getting my schedule. Oh well, have to wait again...... By 2:20PM I was done. Over all it went smooth. I thank this site for all the help, it keeps me prepared.

Goodluck to the next in line.......

    5.

  11. Successful inteview.

My husband and I got there 10:15am my appointment was 10:40am. At 10:35 the officer called me to his office and ask to raise my right hands and start to ask me the 6 questions:

    1. How many amendments does the constitution have?

    2. Who makes federal law?

    3. What is the highest court in the United States?

    4. What group of people sold as slaves?

    5. Why did the colonists fight British?

    6. Who is the vice president of the United states?

Then reading portion he gave me a paper and ask me to read (Who can vote). The writing portion he told me to write ( Citizens of the United states). After that he told me congratulations you passed your test....And then he went over one by one with the questions in the n-400 form. answer is yes or no...One of the question was if somebody ask you if you are a US citizens right now or permanent resident what would you say...I smiled and kinda confused but i remember i read one post here in VJ that after the oath a person will become a citizen...So the officer told me you are not a USC now it will be after the oath... He asked me paper works to support our marriage since I am applying based on 3 years marriage to a USC. I gave him a copy of our bank account statement, electric bill, car insurance, and documents when we bought our house he also asked for a copy of our 2008 tax return he didnt asked 2006 and 2007. Then he told me i will get some documents in the mail and wait for 10-15mins because somebody will double check my papers. After 5 mins. somebody called me and gave me an appointment letter for my oath it will be on june 1 Monday 8am. she told me that i will not yet a USC now it will start after my oath. we left the building at 11am.

I just want to thank all VJers for all the information and step by step guiding process from the start till the end. It help us alot. For anyone who will be having an interview dont be nervous just study the test booklet and you'll be fine..

    joe and joy

    Congratulations, well done!
