  1. My fiancee and I also did not have a formal dam hoi and we were both worried about this point up until the interview. The advice I received was that she needed to be prepared to explain why she did not follow the cultural norm. With our case, I had visited her 5 times within two years and had loads of pictures together with many of her family members. The Dam Hoi was never brought up at the interview but in my opinion this was our big red flag. At the end, she received a blue (10 yr. timeline, proof of residency) and then a pink.

Anyway, best of luck to you both.

  2. Hey Kevin,

I live in San Jose and my fiancee arrived here from VN almost 2 months ago. If you come out here, let me know. Maybe we all could get together and your wife and my fiancee could talk. I know it is a difficult adjustment period.

  3. Sounds like there is some confusion in what is being said here.

You should submit the AOS paperwork with the name your wife is intending to take. If she is taking your last name then submit all AOS paperwork using your last name.

If you submit AOS with her maiden name, the GC will come in her maiden name.

Be careful and consistent and use the same on all AOS paperwork.

    Thank you!

  4. You go to the local SSA office near you. Most recommend you wait at least 10 days after arrival to make sure you fiancee is in the SAVE database--you MUST apply before the 74 day or about 2 weeks before teh I-94 expires as the SSA will not issue you a SSN with EAD or a GC. You will take with you your fiancee's passport with K-1 visa and I-94. We took along her birth certificate just to be safe, but never used it. They will tell you to fill out the SS-5 form, but I am not sure why as the person typed everything in off of her passport except for parent's name. You should receive the card within two weeks. Since your fiancee's last name does not match yours, you may want to place a card inside your mailbox to inform the postal worker that she is to receive mail there--this bit us in the #### with her SSC and her NOA1 for AOS as the postal worker sent them back to sender for whatever reason.

If you are told that your fiancee is not eligible for a SSN as a K-1 visa holder or she must wait until she receives her GC ask for a supervisor or go to another office if possible,

    Good luck.

    Dave

    Thank you!

  5. My fiance got a blue slip on her interview a few days ago. The interview questions were easy and the CO was nice. They asked:

    1) When did you first meet?

    2) Where did you first meet?

    3) How many times did he come to VN?

    4) What school does he study in?

    5) What is his job title?

    6) Do you have relatives in the USA?

Easy questions. They gave the blue slip requesting a timeline and 10 year residency from the petitioner. They requested a 10 year residency from the beneficiary. We have no big red flags. No divorce, no children, no relatives in the USA and no arranged meetings from uncles or family.

I can prepare all these documents easily. The blue slip says "Your appointment date for resubmission of requested documents is June 20, 2011 from 13:00 to 14:00.

Do you guys think I would be able to submit the documents BEFORE June 20? If so, how soon would I be able to do it or should I just do it on June 20?

My fiance received a blue slip requesting exactly the same info. She went once to turn it in early and they said she had to come back on the date specified. Later, she tried again to return it earlier than the date specified and they accept it. I recommend to go ahead and try.

  6. Hello,

When i was in vietnam i got my wifes name tattooed on my arm and now she wants a small stars or some thing on her ankle but shes afraid when she gets her medical they will note it and think shes a ####### and deny her, has anyones fiancee or wife had a tattoo at interview time and got denied from it or know anyone who has? thanks

don worry my wife has tattoos and went to Cho Ray. They asked and checked her blood but it was no problem.

  7. Thanks.

I thought it was strange too that only those two shots were given and listed. I'm going to bring all the papers to the doctors office for them to decipher for me.

As you guys already know, Words can't explain how happy it is to have her here. Now I can overwhelm her with my family as she did with me in Vietnam.

  8. Thuy had to get 3 rounds of one vaccination.. she got two in VN and the third here along with another... The CS will know what she needs when she goes to get him to sign off on the medical...

Look at the yellow paper they gave her at the consulate...

Thank you, Scott. I have the yellow paper but it is unclear and just shows the date of the two shots and not when or what else she needs. We will go to the CS.

  9. Dear All,

My fiancee finally arrived at SFO yesterday. In Ho Chi Minh, she received her TD and MMR vaccinations on 2/15. She thinks she needs a second round on 4/16. In the US, I thought the TD/MMR vaccinations were a one-time shot not in intervals.

    Anyone aware of this?

    Thank you.
