  1. Hi all, its almost been a month since ive been here had the time to settle down and been working for my fiances boss's wife for a little while now still havnt gotten married but thats planned for beginning of august.

I was wondering how dmv works in the state of wisconsin if i need an SSN to apply to get my licence or if i can just show my passport with my k1 visa.

Do i need to wait until i get married to apply for my licence?

and i also had my temporary licence in canada ( not the real one) does that count in any way .

  2. I used to heritage dancing which included contra dancing of which country dancing is now the modern derivative when I was still actively re-enacting the Rev War to 1812 time period back in Canada - lots of fun! Heritage Dancing is actually how I got involved in historic re-enacting in the first place. I miss it :).

well country line dancing isnt the same as it was 10 years ago either..

never did re-enacting but always looked like fun

  3. You will be fine crossing the border. They ask for weapons or knives and you can just mention them and they should be fine with them. I just brought 300 batteries across (for a flashlight promo giveaway at work) and no problems.

    ok ty :)

  4. I used to go with my friend when I still lived in Canada. We had a ball!

I made her lead a dance at my wedding & it was hillarious.

I always liked Shania Twain songs.

I will definetly get people to dance at my wedding reception if enough people do line dancing..

have to find out if theres anywhere to dance in wisconsin

  5. I was wondering if anyone has ever crossed the border with kitchen utensils and knives..

My dad bought us an early wedding gift .. a set of schäfer knives which come sin its own case and i don't know if there will be any problems crossing the border with it... would my dad just be better off mailing it to us?

  6. unfortunately for the moment i cant i actually have my camera balancing on my tv and well the room isnt big enough, so its either full view and you dont get all the steps , or waist down and all steps.

  7. ITS THE BEST FEELING EVER!

ps. Love your names, not only the J. and Ashley, but my brother's name is Jason too :)

haha yeah totally :) John is short for my nephews name johnathan :)

and it is the best feeling ever can finally be with my fiancé this waiting game is way too long

  8. well it is now tuesday and i called DOS to find out why i still havnt gotten any news from my visas .. it has been 10 business days since my interview and according to the man i spoke with MONTREAL in particular is backed up like crazy and that they havnt even printed my visas out yet.

I asked if there were any complications or doing some extra checking or investigating and he said no .. that from what he can see everything is in order but that montreal just hasnt printed it out yet..

this is extremely frustrating knowing that im accepted and im waiting on that 1 little paper to let me cross .. so close yet so far.. i hope montreal starts getting to work soon enough..

  9. hmmmm ya cut it close. I didn't receive any paperwork that said 12 days but live and learn. Nothing we can do but wait.

I hope next week will be a big delivery week for everyone waiting.

I was given 2 papers, the first one was Document delivery information and on the flip side of it is welcome to the united states of america

and the 2nd paper was a one sided paper with frequently asked questions on it.

''You may expect to receive your envelope within two weeks of your interview/approval date.''

Thats on the 1st paper i mentioned.

  10. I am slightly panicking! Interview May 18. They told us a week to get the visa and silly me.. I believed them!

Planning a June 4 wedding but now wondering if that was such a smart idea. ahhh

I think thats cutting it close, considering on the actual paper they give you it says 12 days on it.

  11. I had my interview on the 13th and i'm still waiting aswell I called DOS yesterday and the computers crashed so im going to my dads later to use his magic jack to make the call (FREE) especially with the 20 minute hold the first time they picked up and hung up, and then 15 mintues the second time.

I hope to get something soon POE is june 1st or around there

  12. Good luck - soudns like you've got it all squared away now.

yes finally !! i was really freaking out there ... my fiancé says im the luckiest person he knows and im starting to really see why

  13. You say you 'won't be married by the court date'...but on another line you talk about expediting AP.

You do realize that in order for you to apply for AP you must get married and validate your K1 VISA first...right? If anything you should be hitting the courthouse for a quick civil ceremony to get the ball rolling the day after you arrive!

Just want to be sure you understand the order of things and how AOS after K1 works. You can have a big fancy church wedding later, but if you want to get AP, you need to get married when you arrive and apply for AOS.

Oh i know i have to be married first to be able to apply for the AP, but my lawyer didnt and as for expediting wont be necessary my lawyer will be representing me on that court date and all i need proof of if im not married by then is a receipt or something from the perosn who will be marrying us etc.. (since my fiancé is stubborn) he does nto want to do the whole civil court thing and big wedding after he wants it done once and well personally I dont want to get married in a court house.

Atleats things are cleared up and ill be able to go through with this with no complications.

Just need to find an official paper a sto wher eit states i cant leave since its a one way entry.. there should be something like that on uscis website

  14. Well lawyers office went ok my biggest concern was if i didnt show up in court if my sons bio dad could have him taken away from me... but HE CANT!! so i will be moving like planned and since we wont be married by the court date we will give all proof of status so far ( visas adress bills the school charter with my sons name) and a receipt of the place we are renting for the ceremony etc.. anything possible and he will push the date to a further date if it doesnt get contested which it shouldnt.

and will definetly try for expedited AP

otherwise i stressed myself out for nothing and well just waiting on visas to arrive in dorval and finish packing .. my son keeps asking me '' can i pack my clothes yet, i want to move to daddy's'' and every morning puts an X on the calendar ..

I just hope everything goes as planned.

I think both missingmycanadian's and Canadiandggal's advice are solid.....all the OP can do is provide as much evidence as possible that she have attempted to comply - her lawyer is going to have to explain that she is waiting on the US immigration authorities to approve AP so she can travel back to Canada and NOT lose her status in the US. Without it, all would be lost and she would not be allowed back into the US.

Knowing how little most folks understand about emmigrating to the US...people are always shocked when presented with the details. I suspect this will be a tough go for you.

it will be tough but we will get through it, and itll all be worth it in the end

  15. I talked with my fiancé again and well im stopping by my lawyers today,

my fiance said i would need a 30 day extension to get the papers to them but that i would need a time extension to bring my son since we wont be able to leave the country right away

my lawyer is either too damn lazy or really saying he cant do it , but says he cant push back the court date until that actual date.

this is cause me so much stress everytime i think about it feels like my x bf is controlling my life by a string because of my son .. i am going crazy here

i dont know what will happen is i dont go to my court date if it cant get pushed back and i dont want his dad to claim im kidnapping him when actually he or I cant leave the country until we get an advanced advanced parole ...

sorry for venting here but this sucks and never would i have thought that problems like this would arrise when i first started this .. sometimes just seemms that itll never happen the way i want it to.

  16. My court date is for exactly that custody , i have full custody but unfortunately 2 years later his father now wants to be in the picture and well he doesnt want me moving with my son, it basically says on the papers i have permission to bring my son with me until that date then i have to go to court to prove that i actually got married, and other papers regarding my status.

unfortunately there are no immigration lawyers in my town nor judges so they dont fully understand the time frame of this whole procedure
