  1. Sorry I've been posting here so much, but I just need some reassurance/advice!

Okay, so I'm 22 years old. A recent college graduate, looking for work.

My soon-to-be-husband is 19 years old and lives in the United Kingdom. Clean record. Sweet, great guy and my best friend.

He's visiting me on the visa waiver program. He leaves next week. We've decided to get married (the benefits for this are better than the fiance visa). He's obviously still leaving the country next week to be within the law.

I'm just nervous. I'm trying to find a permanent job, and once I land one that pays above the income level I plan on applying for the CR-1. Because I made less than the income requirement for the past three years due to being a student, I was told here to find a co-sponsor. I'm considering my parents.

So on top of the waiting game of finding a job in the economy, I'm worried that he won't be allowed to come here on the spouse visa because I'll have a cosponsor. They'll say I wouldn't be able to support him or something. If I find work that pays under the requirement while I search for something my degree applies to, would having a cosponsor hurt me? Could they find that I wouldn't make enough to support him, even though he plans on working once he's able to here. I'm scared and just want to be with my best friend! :(

Thank you :) Your advice is appreciated!

Do you want to be with your boyfriend, and soon to be with your husband OR YOUR BEST FRIEND??? ;)

    That's no-no for embassy :)

  2. I had an interview last week and still I haven't received my passport back.....any idea how long the process will take....

THEY didn't tell you when to come to pick it up??? Call them up.That's weird...Or go to your embassy page and see how long does it take to get visa..some emabssies give it out same day same next three some few weeks after..But you should be told there.

  3. Who of you is planning or expecting to reunite with your spouse this September?

Are you excited? Did you make plans how your reunion will look like, and the moment you see him/her at the airport???

Where in US are you reuniting?(what airport?) How many days from now?(For those who already have tickets) I bet your heart is beating faster when you think of that day...Congrats to all of you!

  4. Looks like he has more excuse then a 50 year old virgin why not to petition your sister

    1. He don't have to wait 5 years to petition. He can petition immediately after marriage and its faster if does it at the US embassy in Philippines.

    2. It don't matter if he has PO box for address.

    3. They only need last three years of tax forms not all the way back to 2004.

    4. Tell him not to stall any more and to go file at the embassy. (it should only take around 3 months if all goes right)

    5. Maybe he is hiding something???????

I knew a case where man was married! To annother woman in his country...

  5. I didn't say he had to be working - I just asked if he was.

Lack of working now would mean he might need a co-sponsor, which could explain the "wait" he may not have any willing to sign up

    - also - my followup question was to see where he is, which would call into question if he was waiting to do a DCF (which could necessitate a "wait"), or establish US domicile.

EVEN IF THAT'S THE CASE,he'd tell her in 5 yrs so she wouldn't be so confused and would know why he cannot do it ;)

That's what real husbands and wives are doing, right?

  6. if ever the american husband of my sister file a bankruptcy and was laid off back in 2004, can this affect the petition too in filing CR-1 in any way? my sister is very confused please we need help....thanks a lot for everyone who replied me here...

NO-BUT IF NO ENOUGH(WHAT'S REQUESTED) MONEY-HE NEEDS JOINT SPONSOR(S) AND HE'S FINE.And last-no matter what he did and when he did if he wants her there he'd file right away, regardless of outcome.Just so they can be together!!!!

  7. HI TO ALL VJ'S MEMBER!

HI THERE! I GOT MY VISA APPROVED ON SEPTEMBER 3!  THANK'S TO GOD AND TO THIS SITE IT REALLY HELP ME TO KNOW WHATS THE STATUS OF MY CASE AND TO ALL THE MEMBER'S HERE, NOW IM JUST WAITING FOR MY VISA AND PASSPORT TO BE ARRIVED HOPEFULLY BY THIS WEEK. AND TO ALL WHO STILL WAITING FOR THEIR INTERVIEW GODBLESS TO ALL OF YOU HOPE U GOT THE PINK SLIP TOO! GODBLESS EVERYONE!!! TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!

Congrats! We have lots of reunions this month I guess ;):)

  8. Petition for what? To come to the US (visa) and get a green card?

He could do a CR-1 visa right now - no need to wait, for example.

PO Box would not affect the process.

Not working in 2004 will not hurt him now. I take it he is working now? Does he live in the US or the PI?

He doesn't need to wrk as long as he can have joint sponsor who makes enough money to cover his wife on affadavit.I do not work since 05 and my joint sponsor signed affadavit and no problem.

    Hey

The 5 years waiting thing is just a game he is playing for whatever reason he is thinking, So don't believe that , He can apply anytime he wants and since they are married since a few years , her petition wont take so long and he can apply for IR-1 (10 years green card) because they are married for more than 2 years now.The petition he needs to file out is I-130 .

If he told her some excuses , get her to write these excuses down and call the USCIS her self and ask or the department of state , then she will know all the truth.

yes,I applied right away after our wedding and we were done with process in 6 mos :) This is the fastest process when you apply for spouse,so don't know what he is telling her and why...

  9. I think you shouldnt worry.. I was worrying like you before the interview.. and they didnt even ask for any evidence.. just Affidavit of support and forms :S.. anyway I think you have good evidence...

well some countries has more to worry then others...Again Thailand is one of them too...I didn't catch if she(author of the topic) saw her husband to be or not ever? If not,it may be tougher. They were kinda suspicious when my hubby told them I was there 3 times before marriage and each time it has been about 8 months we didn't see each other only talk thru messengers...they said it was not enough(not thinking that not everyone is rich and not everyone can afford to travel every 2 mos...)but what made up for all that suspicion is that after we got married I was there 6 mos. They looked pictures only,no need for other evidence. So,the less you see your spouse, the shorter time you got married, the bigger suspicion...and the more evidence needed.

  10. Hello Jane,

Thank you for responding, now I know that there are quite a few of us out there in the same boat.

I have been checking our case via USCIS website & see that they are touching it monthly, last touch was August 31, 2010. It is my hope that by the 180 days (Sept. 13th), I will have some sort of decision and/or NOIR/NOID. When I received NOA from USCIS that they were in receipt of our case as of April 13th, I immediately began putting a new supporting evidence package that was mailed off the first week in June. It included flight info from my last trip to Egypt (April 2010) with my children, pictures of my husband with my children, neice & all of his family, months worth of emails, chat logs, & cell phone bills detailing the multiple, daily calls. When I called USCIS & informed them of me doing this, the representative told me that I shouldn't have done that because there is no guarantee that my package would even get attached to the paperwork/case. I told her, I did not want to risk them making a final decision without considering our new information. I unfortunately cannot add my husband to my insurance because they need him to be here/present & have no joint accounts because I imagine he would have to be present to be added as well.

I will start to print out more emails, chat logs, call logs from skype & yahoo messenger, my cell & our paperwork on packages that we send to each other ocassionally, so that I can be ready for their request. I have however, even read some postings here where some people's cases were re-affirmed without even being request a single document...Go figure. It's crazy how that works out right? Some are put through the ringer & others are so lucky....

Please keep me updated on your case & if there are any other things you can think of that will help me, please do not hesitate to share.

    Lizz&Mohamed

It all depends on a country your spouse wants to immigrate from. There are some so called high risk countries where more or less people do get married for GC more then other so those who really wants to get married because they are in love, are sometimes treated as majority who don't,whose number one thing is to come to US...But I know how it is..waiting to find out what is going to happen after 6,8,10 or more months of waiting is nervewrecking and I can imagine if someone is told he/she is denied because of lack of info on his spouse..But even when everyghing seems to go wrong,at the end-love wins and eventually you'll be reunited. In your case I'd send all the proofs I can to show them we're differenet then those other 'bad' guys...And tell your hubby every single detail about you(which I am against of doing in normal circumstances, because we all have to have some things just for ourselves..) so he can't fail once he goes again for an interview. It's sometimes stupid that someone is denied because of nnot knowing who was your boss..but,that's how it works for us who decide to fall in love with someone from different nationality wanting him to move with us here in US :(

    Hope it all works out!

  11. Hi to all vj members!

I just want to ask if its possible to make reservation flight going to US while waiting for my interview date or visa? Do i need to wait for my visa in order for me to book my flight?

    thanks in advance:)

NO but if something goes wrong and you cannot fly, then it's a finance problem-because they don't return full fares

so i'd wait till after unless you are sure everything will go smooth!

  12. Hi,

Did anybody had the same issue where names on

marriage certificate and i-130 where different? I got

married using my old name, I had legal name change a while ago and

I submitted paper from court as a proof of legal name change with

    my i-130.

    Thanks a lot!!

    yes,myself! :)

In all my documents I am my maiden name, only my marriage cert is married name and that doesn't matter at all.In fact it tells you right there before you print I130 that you should send everything as it is(meaning name under which you go,unless you changed it on your documents) I still didn't changed anything and our case was fine to the end! it happened just last month so,this is fresh experience with different names!

  13. The DS-230 is all about the non-US spouse. So in this case the "Petitioner" would be your wife. That is how I filled in my DS-230 and had no problem.

I was a petitioner for my hubby. On ds230 it was mostly about him and yes he needed to sign first page, and leave the second blank to be sign by him in embassy-but it didn't say petitioner, because he is not that..he is applicant.Applicant need to sign, not a petitioner(me)

And then when I didn't know something,I called nvc..I called all the time and I always got nice answer...I wanted to make sure that everything goes perfectly fine so none of the forms will be returned so I called :)

  14. When you decide to go to certain countries, they require you to be insured,I think they call it-traveler's insurance...Anyway-I 've never needed it to go to USA while I was still on GC ,neither I know anyone that needed insurance(unless they were on non immigrant visas) So my hubby had to get traveler's insurance in order to get transit visa to get to the airport in a country he is flying from to NY,so he asked me if maybe they will ask him for same thing for USA.Other words,he wanted to know if someone may require to show traveler's insurance going to USA and I told him NOT,but since I am not 100% sure,I want to make sure that with his visa(cr1) he doesn't need such thing-just his ticket, visa and packet for POE...Anyone knows about it?

  15. Does visa, once received in passport has to be signed somewhere??? Because on the letter that came with visa they are mentioning endorsment..but on the visa there's no line to sign..Anyone who recently received visa-did you sign anything,or you just used it as it was given to you? Don't want my husband to have problem when at the airport...

  16. You can actually do a google search for "K1 visa" or "K3 visa" - the more popular visas - and come up with some images. They are approximately what the visa will look like when you get it in your passport.

You might want to read through the subforums in the US Visa Holder and Permanent Resident section on VJ or the Moving Here and Your Life in America subforum . It should help get some idea of what people do once they enter America and the rest of the process.

he already got visa,so i know how it look like,hahahahaha...yap,i went to google and it looks like that...i've never got anything like that,so i don't know how visas look like :))) As i said last nite, mine was issued over 20 yrs ago so things changed since then.In fact I only had a stamp and GC on hand then.

  17. visa in passport, passport in hand?

later, when coming through the POE, a CBP officer will make a stamp in the passport, validating to VISA stamp to be used as a temp I-551 document, for up to 1 year. (this is a form of temporary green card, or I-551 document).

Once he comes across the US border, his 'arrival' will trigger the card production, the actual green card will be sent to the listed USC's address. If you've moved , or are uncertain that USCIS has the right address on YOU, hey ! hey can update the address at the POE with a CBP officer.

    Good Luck !

    YES,VISA IN PASSPORT,PASSPORT ON HAND,TICKET PRINTED :)))

i JUST ask because it looked different of what I expected to see(I was asking yesterday about what after he comes to US as far as GC and SSn goes, but visa look made me confused) some kind of stamp too or something not this whole GC looking visa with picture and everything, nice and shiny, taking up the whole entire page in passport, hahahaha so that confused me of should I wait for GC or this is the one for first yr.And letter too, since is like the one they describe here as WELCOME letter...Adress is fine...no need to be changed. He can ask at POE if someone will tell him,hahahaha...

  18. Today, our case started in mid december of 2009, is OFFICIALLY OVER! My husband picked up his visa and we bought plane ticket :)

Now,as far as visa look goes-I guess everyone is getting same thing these days-I've never seen it like this before; it's actually looks like GC ,size of a passport page,in color,it is stamped but looks like laminated card and kinda like it's glued to the passport page(but is not).It has pic on it,a lots of numbers(just like GC) and it says VISA in left upper corner...in the letter that he received with it,says only about SSN and nothing about welcome letter and GC,but letter I am talking about is like welcome letter thanking him for interest to live in US and so on...The only thing it says regarding this 'thing' in passport(visa) that he needs to renew it for primary in 1 yr(because we are married less than 2 yrs now) So...did anyone received something like that(I mean visa like that) and do I still wait for GC or this is it-now I am little confused. He wanted to ask a guy on the window but guy said,he cannot answer any questions and everything says in the letter...which is as I said-only about SSN and when and how to obtain one if one is not received. I am used to 'stamps' in passport, that are visas actually so this whole GC looking thing is something I see for the first time...Anyone? :)

  19. when he comes through the POE -

his passport will get ANOTHER stamp in it, sometimes referred to as an 'I-551 stamp' -

which validates his VISA stamp to be utilized as a

temporary green card (up to one year duration) .

so that 'extra stamp' on POE date, effectively is a 'temporary green card'.

re: SSN - regardless of what is ticked on the DS-230 - strongly suggest going in to SSA office on day 15, past the POE date, and apply - ask clerk to look him up in the SAVE database with either his name or A# (printed on the visa stamp)

If they can't find him in the SAVE system, don't fret then - come back in a week, apply again, do NOT accept any processing at SSA for 'DHS/USCIS electronic verfication' - that's a frickin boondoggle, a huge waste of time.

Oh ok.So will wait 15 days from his arrival and go to SS office and apply there..in case he won't be in the system,do they have any other option beside this electronic thing???

  20. if you don't get your SSC or GC in the mail after a few weeks you have to go to the SS office and request an SSC.

and if you don't get the GC or welcome letter after 30 days or something you have to contact USCIS.

after you have the GC and SSN you should be good to work or anything.

most employers may not let you work until you have the physical GC i think.

Don't know,my husband will ask tomorrow when he goes to pick up his visa,if stamp is ok as a proof to get ssn or id...anyway,it's going to take week or two for him to get situated, even though when i came to US I went to wrk after 5 days :( Don't remember how I had my GC so fast, maybe i 've got mine while in my country still, really don't remember..but i do remember going the very next day into local ss office getting ssn :)

Oh well...we'll see, what's most important is that we are finally done with this and can finally start our marriage and our normal life together w/o limitations in time(like when you visit and it's time to leave and it's heartbreaking...) so...little by little things will fall into places. But it was tough.it really was.
