I see you already had your oath ceremony and your now a US citizen.

I am not an expert, but I cannot see any reason to keep copies of the paperwork that you previously submitted to USCIS (to include a copy of the N-400) ... And those letters you received previously telling of your case acceptance, bio date, oath date, and such serve no purpose anymore either.

The only piece of paper I would keep forever in a safe place is your official Certificate of Naturalization.

I know that seemed like a silly question, but when we went to this office for my wife's interview, I thought I saw a sign on the door that said ... 'No Cameras Allowed Inside'

The oath ceremony is in the same building.

Next Friday my wife has her oath ceremony (early - 7:30 am) at our USCS Field Office.

Can I bring a camera and take photos in there during the ceremony?

I think I just might download the form off the internet and fill it out just to make it easier [if] they want me to do it at the SS office.

For newly naturalized citizens, I understand that you need to go to the local Social Security Office and bring your original Certificate of Naturalization with you in order to have the SSA update the fact that you are now a US citizen.

Question ... Since we already have a Social Security Card and an SS number, do we still need to fill out the Form SS-5 (Application for Social Security Card) and bring that with us to the SS office?

Or do we just need to bring our old SS card, drivers license and Certificate of Naturalization?

I agree that there's millions of american without passport, but we should not forget that we have family left in the Philippines.

Yup ... In my wife's case, she want's to go back to school in the Philippines and get her RN nursing courses. Since she will be out of the US for an extended period of time to do this, she wants to get her US citizenship and passport [before] she goes back to the Philippines.

She received her BS / Computer Science degree prior to us moving to the US, but now she wants to go to school again and become an RN.

Seems like she just basically just threw away 4 hard years of college, since she now she wants to start all over in nursing school .... oh well

Nope....It's not obvious that as a US citizen you need to apply for a passport.

Tens of Millions of US citizen's do not have a passport.....there is no requirement for that.

Maybe poor wording on my part ... What I meant to say that ... it's obvious that a new citizen that [wants a passport] will now need to apply for there US passport at some date later than there oath ceremony.

I don't even know if there is a passport agency in our city, however, I do know that there is a SS office here.

I think that after my wife gets her oath, that she just wait a couple of days and go to the SS office first (with her original Naturalization Certificate) and update SS.

Then when that's done, go to the post office along with her Naturalization Certificate and apply for the US passport.

I am a little confused here ... Maybe someone that has just finished there oath ceremony can help me with a couple of questions:

1. I understand the passport reps that used to attend the oath ceremonies are not there anymore?

2. If so, obviously a new citizen will now need to apply for there US passport at some date later than there oath ceremony ... Can this be done via the mail, or does the [new] US citizen need to apply in person somewhere in order to get a US passport?

3. I read that the new citizen needs to provide there [original] Certificate of Naturalization in order to apply for a passport (photocopy not accepted) .... If so, do they get it back since it's there only original Certificate of Naturalization?

4. I also heard that Social Security will need the original Certificate of Naturalization ... How can we provide that if we already gave it to the government agency processing our new US passport?

Good question .... I have heard that the passport reps are not available at oath ceremonies anymore, and that you will need to apply for a US passport at a date later than your oath ceremony.

If anyone here knows otherwise, please let us know.

BTW ... Here is a photo of the letter I sent to USCIS along with my wife's N-400 that explained the problem.

However, you can see that we still had problems that arose during the interview.

Could you launch a FOIA request for this? This could be faster than opening the case.

Well, my wife has now been finally approved for her citizenship since they put her in-line for her oath ceremony, so I guess this whole deal is now just a non-issue.

But Again .... For anyone out there that has had a run-in with the law and is seeking naturalization ... if your not convicted of any crime, and you are going to have your record expunged ... Make damned sure you get a certified copy of the court final disposition of your case [ [ BEFORE ] ] you have the record expunged !

USCIS want's to see that certified copy showing the case was dismissed by the court.

Update ... Things have worked out good.

Just got an email stating that my wife has been placed in line for her oath ceremony, so everything worked out as far as the supervisor's review of her case.

Just an update ... Just got an email from the Tampa field office.

My wife's case has gone to a supervisor for review.

Keeping my fingers crossed.
