  1. It only works as a passport between the US and Mexico. It would have been useless anyway when I get the GC, but I used it as ID and I have nothing to show as ID now!

    Wait..so you don't have a passport and the IO took the card that is supposed to be like a passport?

    So how are you supposed to travel anywhere now? :wacko:

    Yaaaaay Leigh Ann, Finallyyyyyy!!!! :dance::dance::dance:

    So happy for ya!

  2. I Hope so!! Did they give you anything at the end of the interview?

    I've heard of people being given a piece of paper with the approval box checked off or something like that.

    He asked me if I had a Mexican passport, but since I had the border crossing card it kind of takes the place of a passport. He had nothing to stamp. I'm somewhat concerned, too, because he took what I was using as a government ID, so now if I get stopped or something I have nothing to show :S

    Congrats.... Our interview is Wednesday and the nerves that we didnt think we were going to have are now starting to sprout .... Hopefully everything will go great but the weather forecast for Vegas is calling for rain on Wednesday ...I hope this isnt a bad sign ....errrrr

    Isn't rain in Vegas a GOOD thing? :lol: You know, because it cools the air and all?

  4. Wooohooo!!! Congrats!!! :dance::dancing::dance:

    About the translation incident, I had to do the same when we applied for our marriage license. There was a Mexican couple who didn't speak English very well and the lady at the office just tried to explain everything in a very loud voice and add an O to every word (like they would understand her better then :)) So I stepped in, asked if they needed someone to translate to them in Spanish and they were very thankful. Even the sour lady did eventually thank me for helping out ;)

    :lol: At least you were useful! I told the guy the exact same thing the lady told me...in Spanish :lol: Only then did my husband correct me and went like, shh....Paula...you're supposed to translate TO ENGLISH....:rofl:

  5. Our interview went great! We got approved! :dance:

    We got there 20 minutes early and waited in the mostly empty waiting room. Funny incident: one of the biometrics technicians needed someone who spoke Spanish to translate for this lady. I volunteered, listened to the lady and then repeated everything in Spanish back to him :rofl: the security lady was laughing so hard she was almost crying. Anyway, we waited for about 30 minutes, and then we got called in. We got sworn in and he went over the application. He asked us questions about when we met, remarked on my husband's haircut (he used to wear his hair super long and now he wears it short)and asked us if we had any wedding pictures. I had TONS of pictures of everything and had just spent an entire day printing them out and carefully organizing them so I was pretty much like PICTURES I HAVE PICTURES PLEASE LOOK AT ALL MY PICTURES :rofl: I even showed him pictures that he didn't even need to see, like one taken in the dark in Halloween where you can hardly make out our body shapes. For some reason he chose a picture of us in my husband's prom and photocopied it. He asked us if we had any joint anything, we showed him our rental lease and that was it since we can't do anything without an SSN. I pretty much spoke forever about our apartment, he seemed to be really amused by this. After he was (finally) done looking at our pictures he asked us if we wanted children. We talked a bit more about driving in Boise and then he started telling us about the GC, that it would arrive in 3 weeks and that it was conditional, he told me what to do with the EAD if it arrived after the GC and he took my border crossing card and my I-94. I'd kept my border crossing card's little envelope ever since they gave it to me 10 years ago, he was amused by this and let me keep the envelope. Overall interview lasted like 25 mins, it was actually kind of fun. :lol:

  6. Don't stress! Just explain it to them when they ask for the originals - "I don't have the original, we sent it to you." You can explain that you had the others shipped to you, but they didn't get there. If they have the original, it would be insane for them to deny you b/c you too didn't have an original. I mean, they've done stupid stuff before, but don't stress about it (stressing isn't going to do any good since there's not much you can do now) - I'm sure other people have sent in in their originals as well. Do you have a copy of what you sent in?

    I have a copy of EVERYTHING, even stuff I didn't send in. :lol: Thanks, I was seriously freaking out. I'm so stressed my eye is actually twitching :rofl: :rofl:

  7. I have a slight emergency.

    I had only one certified copy of my birth certificate, which I sent to USCIS along with the other papers. I had my mom send me two more certified copies from the government on Mexico via Express Mail. The package was supposed to arrive 3 days ago and it basically just dropped off the face of the earth (it's been In Transit from Salt Lake since Wednesday). How IMPORTANT is it I have copies of my birth certificate, if the last one I had I sent to them?

  8. I agree with all of you! I wouldn't mind paying some more taxes so that we could have better healthcare and schools and decent parent leave! I don't understand why people here treat taxes like they're some sort of money-stealing scheme or something.

    My interview is tomorrow at 10. I'll let you all know how that went! I'm dying of nerves over here :wacko:

  9. Yes, you normally get 3 updates, with the last one being when they mail your card. I've gotten two so far (July 8 & July 13), thought I would get the third one today, but nope.

    Oh! So that's what it is! :lol: Thanks for clearing that up. Shoot, that means they haven't mailed it yet, doesn't it? How long does the card take to get there once they mail it? Anyone know?

  10. Application Type: I765 , APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION

    Current Status: Card production ordered.

    On July 14, 2010, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

    Yay! Spoke too soon! So excited. But it still looks unlikely that it'll get here before we get to the interview in the 23rd. :lol:

  11. I've got a very weird and confusing situation here!

    So, as I've said before, we moved, and we had our lawyer change our address. We got the notices that the change was successful and blah blah, and I noticed that in the Case Type section it said I-130. For some reason, I was not aware we'd filed a I-130, though I suppose it's a NO DUH because that's my husband's petition for me. Anyway, I entered the receipt number in my portfolio, and the status is document production/oath ceremony! #######? Is this normal? My 485 and 765 haven't changed at all, and our interview is still set for July 23. Anyone have an explanation for this? I don't want to get too excited! :lol:
