Did you receive any notification either by email or by telephone when your status changed? I checked today and the USCIS website still says "Initial Review"

I guess we will up in the next round in a couple of day seeing how people are now getting approved.

hello!

so what happened with me: on Friday i received both emails and texts saying that my card was ordered for production, that's when i put my first update. Then, on Saturday morning i had the approval letter waiting for me in the mail. then this morning i received another set of email/texts, saying that my card was sent on 11/26.

i hope the process goes as smoothly for you as well!

I received the actual approval letter in the mail yesterday, and it's dated 11/21/2012 so i'm fixing the date in the list below.

i hope everyone get theirs soon!

just real quick about the name on the deed, we were able to add my name to the deed even though I'm not on the mortgage, so you should be able to add your name as well (do it now if you can, not just before filling, which would look suspicious). This proves that you live in/ share ownership of the same place so I think it's pretty important. IMHO it has more value than showing bills in the same address (anyone can have their bills send to any address right?)

I see that peeps here told you not to, but I'm just sharing my experience. My husband had bought the house before we even met and all the bills are in his name (which we never changed), the only things I pay for is the pest control guy (i'm arachnophobic) and the cleaning lady. We had other assets in common though(car titles and insurance, join bank accounts, CC, etc...) I even put vet bills for our 3 cats.

I think I totally over killed it ,putting in the file any and all things we had in common. Try to get your name on the deed!

I think it's great that you are already looking into all this in advance, so can start saving the docs you will need! just for that, Thumbs up!

Is your understanding that the I 551 is only for travel or to cover work authorization as well as travel and ability to stay?

my understanding is that the stamp and/or letter and/or green card confirms that you are a legal resident of the united states. when you travel abroad you will be required to prove that you are lawful resident upon entry on the US ( however, when i went to Mexico, i was required to provide the info before departing and upon re-entry) so regardless, when you go to a foreign country, you still need to check if your nationality requires to get a visa to go that particular country. for example, I'm French so i don't need a tourist visa to go to Brazil but my Husband does ( because he's a US citizen)

edit: Sorry i realize that i didn't answer your question: yes stamp/ extension letter covers work authorization and travel, but only on the US side if you will (and ability to stay of course since that's the purpose of the whole thing)

there is one thing that changes and that's the category, mine is noted CR6 ( witch i think means Conditional Resident ) and i think this will change on the 10 year green card ( on the picture attached it's IR1)

the only thing i know for sure is that the stamp or the letter or GC is used to reenter the USA. so if your nationality requires a visa to go to a country, you should get it regardless.

as for DMVm, i don't know but i would go in person to renew. this is such special case that i wouldn't trust doing it on the internet.

there is a lot of good advise here, so i hope this helps the OP find a way to make it work with her hubby. I just want to confirm that the feeling of loneliness is normal for an immigrant. I've been here 2 and a Half years, i speak English fluently and scored a well paid, full time job. However, i still get blue now and then and miss my country, friends, life style, etc... I never planned to move to the US, i just met "THE guy and followed my heart and i am thankful that i chose well. but my home country is my home country and being nostalgic and frustrated is totally normal!

I hope OP and hubby find a way to make it work!

Hubby and I have 10 year age diff (I'm 32 he's 41 going on 42) and it's been great to find a man that is grounded and responsible The love stories i had before with guys my age never worked before, mostly because the guys i was with never kept their promises. My husband never made a promise he didn't keep, i think that's why i gave in to marriage with him.

Then, on a day to day basis, I have an explosive personality (very social and active) and he is more of a quiet one (discreet personality) so it balances us to be together, even though i think sometimes i bug him because i'm too much (I have to admit sometimes he bugs me because he's too quiet!! haha) but in the end, what happens is that he calms me down when i need it and I get him out of his shell when it's needed.

I don't know if these are traits we have in our personality or if really it's due to age difference though, to me the real challenge (even after 2 yreras and a half of being married, is that sometime he doesn't understand what i mean when i talk, though i'm fairly good with my english, but man, i'm not native and sometimes i put things strangely together and then gets frustrated when he doesn't get it (what? you don't read my mind? WTH??? ) but again, i guess this are just issues from being from different cultures, not really age difference issues.

Thanks for that clarification. Although, I'd just like to say that this new documentation is, in fact, "real", as our marriage is bona fide. We should have prepared these documents long ago, but were lax. It may not be satisfactory for USCIS, but it is real.

I honestly think that power of attorneys and wills are something that you should send, even if they're recent, simply because one wouldn't give power of attorney to another being unless there's trust between them. Same goes for the will. These are officially notarized documents so they have to have a certain weight in the file. In your situation i would send them with an explanation letter. Should any flag be raised, you can always convince them during the interview!

Not all couples are the same, I'm sure that a ton of US-US couples don't mingle their finances at all... that's really too bad that we have to fit a certain profile to get them to believe our love stories are real...

if he travels within the validity of his green card, it's fine! we are just back from a vacation in Mexico, and i had no problem going back to the US, though the officer pointed out that my card would expire soon. i simply replied that i knew and that i had sent my application just before leaving for this trip. He had nothing to add and let me go.

It's been a while since we filed any official paperwork so I just have a few questions (maybe they are stupid) but I just want to make sure this goes over smoothly.

Do we fill out all the forms in CAPITALS or just normal?

Can I staple things together? Like for example there is a few electricity billy, or copies of tax transcripts that go together, or other paperwork that makes only sense if you see it together and to make sure it doesn't get separated.

Should I staple the I-751 together?

Question 10 on the form: Is your spouse currently serving... outside the US.

If he was deployed, would we mark YES? What if he is deploying AFTER we file the form?

We are moving some time next year. Would it be wise to put his parents' address as the mailing address in Part 1, under our home address?

Our home address is in GA, his parents' address is in WI. But we still have to file at the Vermond SC. Correct?

After we move, I can change our address online/with the corresponding form and it will reflect in their system and there will be likely no problems? Please say yes.

I'd be very grateful if you guys could take the time to ease my mind.

i only know that you should not staple anything together because they process it in a machine so they can refuse your file if you staple. You can use post it tabs to separate documents. I would not file under an address that's not where you live, because it would be inconsistent with the proof you guys will show regarding living together.

for the other questions, i'm not in the situation so i don't know. i would call USCIS and ask them. i know i read that sometimes they don't update addresses, but you can counter that by having a forwarding system in place with your post office and by calling the USCIS center every month or so

My wife and step son's Conditional GC's expire on August 9, 2012. I sent out the I-751 package with a ton of evidence on May 16, 2012 to the VSC which arrived at the VSC on the 18th of May with a confirmation USPS receipt. Today is the 4th of June and I have not received anything nor has the check been cashed. I see alot of posts where at least the check has been cashed in a short period of time after the package was received. Starting to get a little worried. is this normal? The website instructs not to call until 30 days have past and no official receipt has been issued. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Nelson - I added you to our Google Doc. You can see the other VSC filers on there with dates around yours. I wouldn't worry. You'll see many filers around your time haven't received their NOA1's either, and only one person who sent their packet after you has heard back. I bet you'll hear this week!

I filled in the beginning of May, you can see my timeline below and in the doc. I want to point something out to ease the reading of the Google doc. The "NOA1 date" column shows the date on the NOA letter (date they got my package, 5/3) but this is *not* the date I actually received the letter (5/15, sent on 5/14) or the day they cached the check (5/11).so i wouldn't worry if i were you I'm sure you will receive news very soon.

As someone pointed out you can always call in a month to check on your file if really nothing happens

i believe that they can ask for evidence up until the moment they approve your 10 year green card. Everyone filling the form has to get their biometrics taken so it's not a sign of anything else than your case is being worked on at the normal pace.

I would also suggest that you send bank statements through out your marriage , like every 3 months. This shows consistency to face responsibilities together. You can do the same for the bills (send only every 3 months of your water bill, that will save you some money in copies). the purpose here is to show continuity (no one would open and close their account every 3 months)

So glad to have found this thread. Pressure is building up as I am gathering evidence for I-751. My conditional card expires on 8/25/2012 and I am mailing my package on 5/30/2012. This is my list for you to look at and let me know what you think:

- I751

- Personal Check ($590)

- Copies front and back of GC

- Copy of the reminder notice for me to file.( Did anyone get this?)

- 3 Affidavits from neighbors and friends.

- Joints tax returns for 2011,2010,2009.

- Joint warranty deed of a small property.

- Joint house lease agreement.

- Joint car/RV titles.(Recent and current).

- Joint car loan contract.

- Most recent joint checking and savings accounts statement.

- Letter from hubby's employer ( with attached proof of medical and life insurance coverage, both previous and current, stating me as beneficiary)

- Copies of both our Driver's licenses.

- Copies of our car insurance cards for all vehicles.

- Last 2 water bills in both our names.

- Last car note and internet bill in just my name.

Do I have to include a cover letter???

I have not used acco fastener, but it's pretty organized.Would that be a problem?

I also read somewhere here that the best way to send is USPS Priority mail with delivery receipt. Should I go with that?

obviously having a child together is a proof of relationship (you wouldn't have a kid with someone you're faking to be with, right?) but it's not all of it! We all have our personal histories, but if your relationship is genuine you always have other proof that shows it, either financially (joint ownership and responsibilities) and personal (Trips together, pictures, testimonies, etc...).

If having a child was the only valid proof, then how infertile couples would adjust their status? how would students that barely can make both ends meet?

we all have different story and circumstances so don't worry too much, as long as you are truthful there is no problem

the list is there to track down your time line, and others, so that peeps here can estimate the overall processing time. However, you will see that some have their cases treated very fast while others will wait forever. That's the USCIS game!
