  1. I do not think having a lawyer gives you any priority....Ive seen many petitions without a lawyer move quick and some slow....vice versa. You are looking at the wait right now due to the revolution that shut the embassy down for the extended period of time. A lawyer only takes your info, checks it and sends it to the same places we do (those who didnt use one). Its the same process. It helps if you have a complicated case that you might need the advice of a lawyer. Either way good luck and hopefully you will hear something soon...unfortunately we've all had to wait for our spouses and fiancees, when we would have preferred to have them with us during this wait. Good luck and keep us posted of your progress. I hope things will start moving smoother for Cairo. :D

  2. I agree....I would take it all and if you need it, then you have it. Any extra evidence in a K1 can help. Being denied a tourist visa because you didnt have strong ties to bring you back isnt a bad thing, and from what you stated you told them the truth. Just be calm and be completely honest with everything. Best of luck and let us know how the interview went.....Inshallah all will be fine.

  3. Ive looked at the interviews that are happening in Sept and Oct and they finished NVC back in March and April, so its a 5 to 6 month wait right now. Sorry I know this isnt good news, but hopefully they can play catchup and get some more interviews in....good luck. The patience you are gaining now will only come in handy later.....its all a stressful process.

  4. Perhaps i am confusing the three years of tax transcripts with what is required for AOS?

I just read the reviews for the UAE consulate and most of the reviews only took the latest tax return (2010) and letter from employer about current pay. One post did say they had 3 yrs and handed in all 3 years ( I think if it shows stability then doesnt hurt to take all three). I would read the most current reviews for tips on what you do and dont need...etc.

  5. I agree with the above post on #1 and #2.

#3. You need to check the consulate in UAE to see if they require the 3 previous year tax returns, it can also be beneficial to you if you are trying to show that you have stability in providing for the household. You current pay needs to show you make sufficient income to support your household or need for co-sponsor. A letter from you current employer showing you income on the job is helpful also. We did have to submit 3 years of tax returns for our interview (I would check with people who have just had interviews at the consulate you will be going to for your interview). Of course this is just my opinion. Its better to have too much info for NVC and the interview then not enough.....to wait to submit paperwork just causes delays.

  6. Well, Ive looked at the interviews for Oct and their cases closed in April. I hope they will clear up some of the backlog but at this rate you might not have the interview for a few more months. I pray this will not be the case and you will get good news soon. Sorry, I know this is not the kind of news anyone wants to hear when they are waiting for interviews.....best of luck.

  7. wow, things changed. I dont remember having to make an appt for it...you know my mind though Beth. We went to them embassy and they asked what we needed to get from the embassy and we told them we needed the free to marry papers, they let us in , gave us a number and papers to fill out. We then waited for them to call us back and finally got the Free to Marry paperwork. I just asked Tamer to make sure and no we didnt make an appt. We got to the embassy early that morning at it all went easy. Things might have changed, I would email them to see what the procedures are now.

  8. It wasnt the cheapest, but the layover times on the cheapest were realllllly long. His sister was paying for the airline ticket as a wedding gift, it was the cheaper flight she had access to from her company in Egypt. The ones I found had crazy layovers in some cities....like 24 hours. I dont think her assistants looked too hard, just found something quick and got him here the end of that same week.

Good luck on finding the POE that is convienent for you.

  9. I think its pretty simple....and straight forward. Of course, you never know how the interview will go, I dont see any immediate red flags. Im Christian and my husband is Muslim and that was never an issue. You dont have a duge age difference, you dont have kids, equal on education. I think you need to relax and just take a deep breath. In my opinion you should be fine. If they suspect anything you will know it by the complexity of the interview. Just make sure you take all your proof on everything. Best wishes and good luck. Do you have an interview date yet?

  10. It should be any day now.....you have to consider business days only. It has only been 2 weeks based on that. Do you have the registered number? If so you can look it up on USPS.com. If you want to send it to me, I can check for any inside details, if any are available. I work at the post office and dont mind looking into it.....I hope you get it soon.

  11. You will have to get a paper from the embassy but married at their "govt" location. Dont worry about the paper...I didnt need anything either. Just my divorce papers showing I was able to marry. It has to be 90 days after any divorce. Just read the embassy requirements for getting married in Egypt. Silvia, just relax and enjoy your time in Egypt. How long are you going for? Send me your number again in a message and Ill call you tonight or tomorrow.....Have fun sweetie.

  12. We dont live in a perfect world and people will always "assume" things based on looks. My husband like Betsy's is Egyptian and he gets labelled hispanic all the time. THey even bring him to translate for customers who speak spanish. They brought him one time to translate for a man from Holland.....lol He just laughs it off and keeps going. Some times people dont want to ask hey where are you from or what language do you speak?

I find some people hesitant to tell someone where they are from from fear of being "labelled". I say do what my husband does and take it with a grain of salt....or always wear a shirt that says "Im Dominican" what are you? Why not just treat a person like a person and not what they look like or where they come from....maybe they are just trying to be friendly and welcoming. Your children will be Latino/your nationality. I think you took Betsy the wrong way as she was just saying people assume our husbands are hispanic even when they open their mouths and NO their accent is not spanish but people still think they are.

Diana I love the way you put it as well....just laugh it off. Ive been mistaken for Spanish most of my life and Im not. Ive always just thought it was funny and went with it.
