It has been a few years...

My wife ( entered on a k-1 visa) and step daughter came to the USA. They both now have 10 year green cards. Neither is a USA citizen yet. I had signed the I-864 for both of them.

My step daughter (age 23) has lost her job. Can she apply for Ohio Unemployment and not have it come back on me?

We started to file in the N-400. On a 3 year married to USA Citizen application, we are asked to answer five year questions. We do not have a problem doing that, but it does not make sense to be asking for a full five years the number of days out of the country on a three year application. With no visits aboard, we still need to list the number of days before date of entry into the USA. This makes no sense to us. Why does part 8 want the days outside the USA before the date of entry into the USA? Or are we miss understanding the form?

I agree very weird, but in rare situations it is helpful. Most times it is not a good idea. In our case it permited us to marry before my step daughter's birthday. A minor can join Mother much easier than adult can join Mother in USA. However it added the cost of trip to Texas for the proxy wedding, costs of the proxy wedding in Texas, plus costs for wife to travel to Moscow to USA embassy to have her proxy papers witnessed.

The down side of the wedding day was I sent my first night being married on an airplane flying back to Ohio alone...

I say that language is unnecessary and can only muddle and confuse USCIS. We all know that to use a K-1, the couple can not be legally married and that marriage must be performed in the US. And we all know the ceremonies and other may be performed prior to entry to the US. This language, IMO, serves no useful purpose and can only lead to possible RFEs or at worst a denial (and loss of fee).

If the USCIS wants this language, they will ask for it.

K-1 is also used for Unconsummated proxy weddings. Read the information from the government manual information. Few people do proxy weddings, but they are legal. You do the proxy wedding and you are legally married, but without being consummated the USCIS by law must treat you as unmarried. However you are married for all other legal issues. The language is how to keep USCIS from becoming very confused. If you are not having an unconsummated proxy wedding, do not worry with the post.

My wife came to the USA on a K1. I have been through the process.

You can sent copies from HR Block with copies of the w2s. I would also order the tax transcipts for future use.

On 21 Sept at 4:43 PM I update the list with the date we got the green card. At some point someone used an older list to update or removed our greencard date. In any case the version used the last few days is NOT correct! It needs to be compared to the version belowed, plus later changes and corrected. I do not know if my added date is the only one now missing.

Post office located our green card late yesterday two towns over from us. It was delivered today. Next stage in Spring for USC. We wish everyone good luck with the process. We also hope you have a wonderful fall.

Green Card came today with married name. There was no problem.

It appears the USPS has misplaced our green card. Now we wait to see if USPS can find it... So much for one stage in the process not having an issue or problem.

USCIS sent a email tonight with tracking information for our green card. However the email did not give the tracking number. They have an error that leaves the number out of the email. The email states: "The USPS reported that they picked up mail from USCIS containing your new card on September 16, 2013. The USPS tracking number assigned is #DCN. You can use this number at <a href="https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction_input?origTrackNum=#DCN" target="_blank">www.usps.com</a> to view updates to the delivery status of your mail. You should receive your new card within 7 days...." If you get a letter like this. Go to USCIS.Gov and enter your Receipt Number in the My Case Status. The tracking number is given there. Copy it, visit USPS.com and enter the number.

I forgot to say, I would not call the fees for the i-751 free, but at least removing condition and name change can be done at same time.

We filed for the name change on the i751. All her uscis mail is coming in the married name. The new green card was mailed today. We assume the married name will be on the card.

We got an email telling the green card was mailed today 9/16. We hope everyone has approval soon!

Got an update today 9/12 on the greencard printing,

We will let you know the day the card arrives! We are still amazed. I had hoped to be at this point in early December. We have not had any stage of the process go this smooth and fast. Each day we keep looking at the letter going. Is this really going this easy? Yes.

Has anyone else been processed at their local office? We have been wondering.

I need to file a I751 for a step daughter. She came 14 months after my wife. Since my wife was on a conditional green card, my step daughter's is conditional. Time difference means we could not remover her condition status at the same time. What support documents do we need to send with the i751? I know a copy of my wifes approval to remove conditional status, a copy of my wife's new green card. Is that all we send?

Wonder how the USCIS processes these applications... seems like there were 13 applicants ahead of you.

For some reason it was sent to the local office and processed there. I never got word they moved it. Assume the speed was due to the work load at the local level. We were surpise to be done so fast and ahead of so many others. Our history with the whole process has been slower than normal, and one small problem after an other small problem. My wife looked at the letter three times today. She did not expect it so soon.

Now if the card will please come in the window they say it should come...

Letter came today, our adjustment of status was approved on 9/3/2013!!!! Fast and no interview needed! The first step in the process that did have a problem and was completed faster than normal. By the way the local office processed and not CSC. We filed with CSC and had no notice of move to local office.

I was looking at timelines. JuLei09 who filed CSC on 6/10 were approved on 8/26! Did the people who were transfered change their timelines to CSC or only change it here?

Biometrics done this past week. Very fast in and out for a 15 min total in building! Now the wait! Hope finished up before winter snows come... For now enjoy the summer sun and outdoor fun!

I would have your fiance write a short summary letter about the income explaining the PHD work, how he is paid, the change coming in the fall and that Father is acting a co-sponsor. Put the letter on top of the income paper work with a paper clip.

You do not have to do it this way, but it will make it quicker at the interview with less questions to you about it. Either way, give them all the pages and you should be fine.

I suggest you order a few copies. You will find it asked for more times that you care to think about. It is easier to a few copies in the files and not have to be mailing for one each time.
