  1. Contacted USCIS Customer Service. They said to send copy of original payment (the check we sent), the e-mail we received from USCIS saying they received our I-485 application, the biometrics appointment notice, and the transfer notice. Also she said to mention in our cover letter, that we did not receive an official receipt notice for our I-485 and that we have included other evidence in support.

I'll be sending it out soon. I'll update when I hear something.

Thank you for your help. :)

  2. So I submitted my EAD renewal, and it was sent back to me. It says they need proof that my I-485 was submitted, they want my Notice of Action. All I have, all I remember receiving, was my TRANSFER notice, saying they were transferring my application to a new office. I can't find or never received a Notice of Action that saying it's in process.

Is the transfer notice enough? What can I do if it isn't what they want?

  3. This is my cover letter, please let me know if I have everything or need to include anything. Thanks.

"Nature of Submission : I-765 Application for Employment Authorization RENEWAL

    To Whom It May Concern,

Enclosed please find my Form I-765, Application to Employment Authorization Renewal together with its supporting documents as follows :

    – Copy of I-485 Adjustment of Status I-797C, Notice of Action

    – Copy of I-94, front and back

    EAD New Card Notice

    – 2x Passport-style photographs of applicant, (name)

Copies of documents submitted are exact photocopies of unaltered documents and I understand that I may be requested to submit original documents to an Immigration or Consular officer if requested."

  4. I'm trying to renew my employment authorization. It expires June 17th, 2013. The instructions on USCIS will not load, even though I've updated my Adobe Reader and restarted my computer, I guess it's down or something.

    1) What do I need to include with the renewal form? Copies of my EAD, etc, what else?

    2) 12 - How do I know my USICS office that I applied to the first time? On the Timeline here, it says it was likely Chicago National Office. Do I just put that? For the 'date(s)', do I only add the date it was validated?

    3) 13 - Place of Last Entry into the US - On my original form, I have "Edmonton, AB" because I was told as soon as I went through Customs I was considered to be on "US soil". Is this right, would it be Los Angeles, CA, where my flight landed?

    4) 15 - Current Immigration Status - Would that be Permanent Resident, since we're now married?

    Thanks for your help.

  5. Calling USCIS, I've had quite good luck pretending I really cannot find the receipt number on my notice: that is, listen to them explaining how to find it, press the button to say you still can't find it, etc. until you get through to a human. Then tell the human your receipt number and say that you want to make a service request. When I called, the tier-1 person said he couldn't make one (since there are no official processing times for CSC), but the tier-2 person was really nice and helpful. I think the waiting time to get to a tier-2 person was about an hour, though.

That said, I think you should contact all of your senator/congressman offices and ask for assistance. Where I live, they even have these USCIS-specific information release forms on their websites which make filing a request very straightforward (they probably deal with like... loads of these on a daily basis). I'm about 90% sure it was one of my senator requests that finally made them pull my file from the CSC (after about 9.5 months) and transfer it somewhere else.

I took your advice and pretended I didn't know where my receipt number was, it worked like a charm, thanks! LOL

The lady I got was very nice and helpful and was able to put in a service request for me. I should hear something bu February 13th. Here's hoping. :)

Thank you so much everyone for your help! No doubt I'll be back! :)

  6. I would have to refer you to the post that I made earlier about our AOS case. I had to go through a tier 2 officer to get a service request in, because I ran into a lot of road blocks everywhere else. Call the number back and ask to speak to a tier two officer. The wait times are very very long, or you can ask for a call back. The bottom line is everyone who got transfered right before the 1 August deadline may have gotten screwed over. The officer told me flat out to start getting ready to renew the EAD card, and the AoS cases can take up to 12 months now for people who got transfered for the "speedy" processing. I dont want to start rumors or anything, but that is the information given to me when I called.

I've heard that in order to talk to a live person, you have to call when the lines first open, 8am. Is that true? Or do you still get the automated voice and have to press a number for a live person?

  7. Hi there,

I posted awhile ago about my AOS case because it had been a long time since I heard anything. Many of you suggested I make a service request. This was my original post:

We were married March 17th, 2012. We got our NOA for our AOS April 23rd, bio appointment May 14th, our case was transferred May 24th. Haven't heard a single word since. Is this still within normal processing times, or is there something we can do to inquire about our case?

    Thank you for your time.

I called the National Service Center (NCSC) number 1-800-375-5283, which is the same number which is recommended on my Transfer Notice letter if I have questions about my case. I put in my info, and all they told me was to wait 180 days. It's been 245 days as of today (January 24th). The automated voice didn't tell me what to do if I was outside of normal processing times. The automated voice said that was the most update info about my case.

What do I do now? If that the wrong number to make a service request? Thanks for your time.

  8. Call USCIS the information line. It's on the USCIS website. You can also schedule an infopass appointment via the website but it would be a waste of time. The local office doesn't have your file and can't tell you anything about it. The only thing they can do is make a service request but you can do that yourself by phone.

Your best bet is your senator's office.

Thank you so much for your help, and everyone else who helped as well. :)

  9. I recommend going for Infopass appointment... I know that time may vary but I feel this is too long.. I filed May 17th, 2011, Biometrics - June 2011.. GC approved July 28th 2011. I would say you need to look at the timeline between biometrics and interview.. should not be more then 304 months.. I am in California Service Center as well. Mine was 1 month.. I recommend inforpass

Did your wife leave a country at any time?

What number do I call to make an Infopass appointment? No, I haven't left since I arrived on my K-1 visa, everything else has gone relatively smooth until now. :|

  10. Now that your case has been at CSC for over 6 months you can try a service request (you can do this by phone, an infopass appointment is not necessary), and get your senator's help (they can contact CSC directly and request your file be pulled for adjudication)

How do I do a service request? I call the CSC?

AoS from K-1 routinely takes ~8 - 10 months and sometimes longer.

Oy. I've seen that quite a few people have waited that long. Was kind of hoping that wouldn't be us :(

  11. These are probably really obvious questions, but some easy answers are appreciated.

I previously filed for a SSN shortly after arriving in the USA, but they sent my application to Homeland Security to be verified. I called and called about it, they couldn't tell me anything and I was eventually told my application had expired, which I didn't know could happen but oh well. Anyways, now that I have my EAD, I am filing again for a SSN but was wondering about part 1 and part 11/12.

Part 1, when it asks for other names used, should I put my maiden name?

Part 11, it asks if I ever filed for or received SSC before. Yes, I filed.

But then, part 12, it asks for information that was on the card, which I never received (never received a card or number.) Should I mark the box yes for filing, but leave part 12 blank? I just don't want to mistakenly lie or something.

    Thanks for any advice!

  12. It's good to think of the things you like about the US. Sometimes I miss home so much I just wanna leave, it's easy to forget the good stuff sometimes.

    - Online Shopping. The shipping for so many websites is so much faster here. And there are most websites available to me too, like Zappos (no Canadian site anymore).

    - The weather. I do miss the changing of the seasons back home, but the weather here is always just perfect. No snow or cold to keep me from going outside. Only rain, but we both love the rain! Because of the nice weather all the time, you see a lot of vintage vehicles out. Always so fun to see.

    - How close the ocean is! When we're at, we're only a half hour away from the ocean, and if we want the really nice clear water (kinda dirty where we are), that's only a couple hours away.

    - The scenery! So different. There are amazing rolling hills and valleys. I love the different trees. How you can grow different fruits in your backyard you couldn't in Canada.

  13. My husband already finished college and had a good job. I was just working at a gas station, no college and no idea what I'd do. Mind you, I live in a boomtown and he could make a good amount of money and no doubt him being from the US wouldn't be an issue. But he is a lot closer to his family than I am to mine, and I know they would all hound me if I took him away. And of course, he would never get used to the cold winters here. :D

  14. As weird as this sounds, I miss being primary on my accounts. I do most of the calling while he is at work, and it's all his stuff, since I don't have any accounts yet here. I don't much like being secondary.

I miss how familiar home is. I miss my parents, my sisters, my nephew. I miss the public transportation back home, so much easier to get around, and faster, and cheaper!

  15. Right, when you got married shouldn't matter as K1s are eligible for a SS# anyways. (Sorry, I was thinking of my own case, I only needed to change my existing # to my married name.) I would go to your local ss office asap, before your application expires and find out what happened. They can't just "lose" an application like that, and you applied when you still had plenty of time left on your I-94. Be prepared though, the SSA employs some of the most incompetent and unhelpful people...

Well, I called my local office and that's what she said, that it came up suspect. My application has been in "review" by Homeland Security or whoever for weeks. She gave me a number to call, 1-800-375-5283, but it's USCIS and all automated (tried to input my receipt number from NOA for AOS, but it wouldn't take it... twice), I couldn't even figure out how to talk to a real person. There was no mention of SSNs anywhere anyway, let alone what to do when something like this happens. The toll-free number for SSA wasn't much more helpful.

So I'm sort of at a loss.
