  1. Hey everyone!

My fiance Hamza is from algeria. We are preparing for our interview (no date yet). We know that he is required to bring military records, if he has any. If he has no military history, is he required to bring a form to say he is exempt from doing the military, or another form saying he has no military history ?

    Thanks

  2. I worked at a domestic violence shelter, for a while. I know where I worked, we sometimes had ppl come in who were immigrating, and whos spouses were threatening, and abusive. We would help them get connected to the local immigration justice project. They were very good, and what they did there, and full of information. Im not sure if your community has a project like this. Im am fairly sure that you could find a domestic violence organization, in your community. Sometimes they are reffered to as Womens shelters. They are not soley for women. As long as they are not working with your wife, as well (cause this would be a conflict of interest) then they can work with you. They may have some very valuable information for you. they usually have a list of community resources, and if you have such a project as we did with immigration justice, then they can point you in the right direction. Hope this helps. Im sure someone else here in VJ can help you further :)

  3. Your dad doesn't have to explain anything to his employer. He should go to HR and ask for a salary verification letter. They can give his hourly salary if he's paid that way or his annual pay if he's salaried. He can then attatch paystubs if he likes. No one needs to know a reason.

Also, the salary verification pay stubs are only really needed if you made less money on your previous tax return than you do currently. For me, because I worked a partial year my income wasn't enough for 2007 but my current income was well over the required guidelines. I used the salary verification letter and paystubs to prove that i currently made enough to sponsor him.

When my husband's visa was issued in 2009 they didn't ask for 2008 tax transcripts even though it had been about a year since his interview where 2007 transcripts were used. Algeria is a pretty easygoing helpful embassy IMO.

    Thanks Mom of 1

My dads income is salaried, but most of his income comes from comission. He exceeds the required income, for sponsoring (co-sponsoring) So, if I guess it will be acceptable for him to send just the transcripts. I only had a few months of work history on this years tax's. So I think to be safe, I should send in my employer verifcation letter, and pay stubs. :). I know everyone here on Vj hopes for this... but i just hope to get everything right the first time around, to try to escape delays. This whole process can cause some anxiety. As im sure you know. SOOOO Im so thankful for all the wonderful support, and information, and feeling of community that we get here at VJ. Thanks again, for the info.

  7. I hope your more happiness in your near future. What kind of work does your husband do... I wish there is a way for him to get a job here in the US that would be comparable to what he has there. Do you have a good work history ? Is there a way that you could secure a job in the US ? Maybe someone would be more willing to co sponser, if they knew you were coming back to a job? idk, Im sure you have thought of absolutley everything under the sun already. I wish you the best of luck, and hope that your situation, finds a solution!

  8. Hey Mandy

Thanks for posting this for me. This is very helpful, Another VJ'er sent me somthing very similar to this as well. I love all the help that comes from VJ, its great to feel part of a community who have something in common, and can share so much ! Hamza is already working on getting some of these things ready. Others we are waiting on, for a little bit. The military papers, I guess have a 3 month validity... So we dont want to get them to soon, only to let them expire. ANYWAY... Good luck, with the next steps in the process... and you will have to let us know about the interview, when it comes :)

    thanks again

  9. I didn't work for most of the years I was married, but since my husband worked with an EAD in the US I was able to use his income. I sent two tax transcripts from the year 2005 and 2006 but since I worked a partial year in 2007 I sent extra information which included: 2007 tax transrcips, salary verification letter, and 3 current paystubs. Might be overkill or uncessesary, but I didn't want any trouble. I didn't have a co-sponsor so I can't say for sure, but I think it's safe to assume you bot need the same evidence of income.

    Mom of 1

Thanks for sharing, what you sent. Its always a good idea I think, to go overkill, with this :) Im going to try to send as much as I can. I just wanted to be sure, and have a clear Idea from the embassy. Also I think it will good to be able to attach this Email to my Affidavit. Im going to send paystubs, and a letter from my employer as well. My dad who is my cosponser, is uncofortable asking his employer for a statement... Hes very accepting and happy for my Engagement... but I think he dosnt want to have to explain the situation to his employer. idk. So hopefully his Tax transcripts, and pay stubs will be enough.

Thanks for this offer. I would love to hear, any tips, or suggestion you have with dealing with the algeria embassy, or just any thing that I should know, thats not commom knowledge :)

  10. Hey guys, I have been trying ot get ready for after we get our NOA2. I have read alot on VJ about whats needed for the I-134 affidavit of support. Theres alot of information floating around out there, and everything seems to differ. Alot of posts said that the evidence you need to have, to go along with this form, is different for every embassy. So I decided to go straight to the source. Here is what the email I sent :

    Hi,

My name is Danielle Walton, I am the USC petioner for a K1 fiance visa. This application is still at the Vermont service center, but I am trying to prepare for when it reaches the embassy there in Algeria. To help in making this a more smooth, and fast process. I have a couple questions, I hopt that you can find the time to reply. I realize your very busy there, so I hope this isnt too much of an imposition.

My question is regarding the I-134 affidavit of support. What evidence do you require to support the affidavit ? I will have a co-sponser as well, do they require the same evidence ? I have Tax transcripts, for the last three years, and also pay stubs. Is there more that you require, or would be beneficial to send along ?

Thank you for your time, and response :)

    Danni

And this is the response I got :

    Dear Sir,

Be informed that your last individual income tax 1040, W2 or tax transcript will be enough.

    Regards

    Consular Section

    U.S. Embassy, Algiers

I think that I will print this email, and send it along with the I-134, incase they say that they need more then this, once they recieve it. Im also sending the paystubs, just for a lil extra cushion.

  11. Hi Danni, Yes, that "N/A k-1 Visa" will work for some Consulates/Embassies and will not work for others. It is especially troublesome with a joint sponsor. You actually have it right in your first posting.

Both sponsor and joint sponsor (be sure to thank Dad) must check the same for question 11. You should check I intend, "to provide food, housing and all necessary...etc...

Same for your father (NO specific time frame or amounts of money). He should check "I intend to supplement or provide food, housing, etc... for my daughters fiance/husband.

For the Question 10 (I think 10) that asks if you have filed a visa petition for anyone, for you it is yes and put current fiance, also list others if you have filed before. Your father will list NONE unless he has filed a Visa Petition before for someone else but not related to your fiance.

    Good luck

Thanks for the reply, and this is really helpful :) your the best !

    Moving thread to:

    US Embassy and Consulate Discussion

You are almost there and now you have to deal with the embassy. This is the place to post your experiences or questions related to this last step before moving to the US. Topics relating to I-134's, packets sent from consulate and medical & police certificates should be posted here.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and for moving this to the correct forum :)

  12. Hi, im preparing early for our packet 3. I will have a co sponser for my I-134. My father will cosign for me.

In the I-134 I question #11, i put that I intend to provide room and board for my Fiance for the full length of his stay.

For my fathers I-134, Im not sure what to put for question 11. Does he have to give a specific amount each month, and does anyone know how much is required ? OR can he just say, that he will provide as much as needed for my fiance's full length of stay ?

Should we not say Full length of stay, and instead put a specfic time frame? Any suggestions would be appriciated... thank you so much :)

  13. Thanks! We're feeling like it's got to end soon, and I'm getting no information on what's happening.

Hope you all escape the dreaded plague - and perhaps you will. As my girl scout niece says, 'Always be prepared' :)

Where in Algeria does your fiance live? Brahim is from A Oubellil near-ish to Oran. He hasn't been back in 9 years :(

Hey again, Hamza is from Tebessa.

  14. Don't want to rain on your day, but I wish someone had told me early on: be prepared for Administrative Processing ahead of time. The timeline for the NVC/Embassy is somewhat regulated, but then there's the possibility that your fiances will be sent for AP because of their origin in a MENA country.

My husband is Algerian and we met in Paris, and have been living together here since Jan 2009. After a seemingly speedy walk through the NVC/Embassy process (April 23 - Dec 9th 2009) we were put in AP and are stuck there now - it's added an extra 4 1/2 months and counting. And though we're in the last stage of the process here in Paris, Brahim is considering going back to Algeria to wait it out.

I think if you're aware of AP early and have it built into your expectations and internal clock, it may make it easier. And of course you may not get AP or have a very short one like our fellow traveller Malarie.

Best of luck in your journey! Keep us all posted as to your progress!

    Hey Meredith, and Brahim

Its okay, your not rainging on my parade. I have read about this dreaded AP, and im aware its hard to get around in MENA countries. Though, I kind of expect it, and am very much afraid of it... I have to admit, Im really hoping to bypass it. Im sorry to hear that it has dragged you along, for this amount of time. I hope that it ends so soon for you, and your journey can continue along smoothly.

Thank you for the warning, I appreciate any advice and tips, even if they are not what I want to hear :)

  15. Be prepared to be questioned about why you met in Tunisia and not in Algeria. His family's approval and knowledge of the relationship will be very important. I don't think they normally allow the petitioner in the consulate for the interview. I wasn't in Algeria for my husband's interview. It went smoothly, but we had already been married for 6 years at that time and had lived together in the US already. I don't think it's a difficult consulate to work with. I found them especially polite, helpful and prompt with their responses. This was nearly two years ago now, and I have noticed they are possibly starting to toughen up as the amount of petitions increase. Most of the petitions previously were of Algerian nationals who are now USC's or LPR's sponsoring a new bride to come to the US. If you have a legit relationship and strong evidence, you should be okay.

haha, thank you for the compliment below :) !! We met in Tunisia because I saw that there was an adivsory, or warning on the US travel site for Algeria. So I didnt feel comfortable meeting there. We also felt it was fair that both of us travel a bit to meet, and spend money, and so forth. It was also cheaper, to fly to Tunisia, then to Algeria :) Do you this these reasons will justify this in the eyes of the embassy ?

His parents know and approve of our relationship, they both signed a letter of approval, and acknowlegment... so did his two brothers and one sister. Will this help to show the embassy thier approval?

Is there any advice you can give on showing proof of a bonafide relationship. We have pictures, chat log, chat conversatioons, email, a couple regular mail envelops, we could take pictures of gifts sent given ? We have approval letters from 5 of his family members, and four of mine, We dont use the phone to talk, as its too expensive, though we do send texts almost daily, if I can get a record of this, i'll send that along. We us chate and webcam/voice chat instead. Is there something im missing, or that you can think of, that would help me ? I would be so appreciative of any advice or tips.

    Thanks momof1

  16. We should be getting Packet 3 soon. I can tell you what's in it when it comes. :)

Thanks Mandy, I would love to know what you get in your packet, and also any updates you have about the embassy, and how things go for you... I would love to know, if you think about it :)

    Thank you so much!

    Good luck with your journey!!

  17. Hey everyone,

Im applying for a k1 visa for my fiance. He lives in Algeria. Im a the USC. We recieved our NOA1, and we just want to be totally prepared for when we get our NOA2, and the info gets sent to the Embassy in algeria....My question is...Does anyone know whats all included and needed for Packet 3 in algeria?
