My brother might have an opportunity through work to come to Canada and work there for a while. Do you know if that might expedite this process?

Hello! Its been about 15 years since I dealt with immigration stuff, so forgive me for being rusty!!

After losing our only living Parent, my brother and I would like to live closer. So I’m trying to get his stuff going. I see that I need to fill in 1-130 and provide needed documentation, but I don’t see anything else that I need to fill in for him or his spouse. When do I pay the fees and when do I provide financial info and stuff? The guides aren’t clearing things up for me, so I would appreciate any guidance. We’re from India so I’m curious if anyone knows how long the current wait times are?

I personally thought the ceremony was meaningful. What the judge said was quite touching.

On another note, I submitted my application for my U.S. passport yesterday at the post office. I wasn't aware that they would actually keep the original naturalization certificate. The post office lady said they will send it back. So I won't be able to update my social security records until I get my certificate back.

I had my oath ceremony on 2/18 and I'm officially a US citizen now!! The ceremony is short and sweet and a good end to a long road for most people. Wish you all good luck and hope things go smooth for everyone, now that the end is in sight .

Thanks guys for all the replies. So it sounds like all I need is my 10 year GC. The examiner took my 2 year GC during the interview, so I can't think of any other "immigration" documents that I need to bring.

I have my oath ceremony on 2/18 and had a few questions:

1. The letter asks me to bring all immigration related documents. What other immigration related document do I need to bring other than my GC? I came here on an H1B work visa, met my husband, got married and applied for GC based on my marriage to a USC.

2. How long does the entire oath ceremony take?

3. Anything else I need to keep in mind or be prepared for?

Hey! I forgot to ask you, after you waited 45 minutes, how long did the actual interview take? I noticed the letter says about 2 hours. Just wondering how accurate that was.

I was mentally prepared for 2 hours, but the actual interview time for me was just 15 minutes. So it wasn't bad at all. It probably does vary though based on whether the examiner has gone over your application, has some additional questions/clarifications/evidence he needs etc.

If filing based on the three year rule married to a USC, you will need more marriage items like you did for the removal of conditions (ROC). I would cover the time from the ROCs to the filing of the N-400.

Thanks for your input. I had my interview today and the brought the original items listed in my post + some bank statements and utility bills. The interviewer didn't ask for anything other than my GC, passports and driver's license. So I was fine not bringing anything additional, but everyone's case may be different.

My interview experience was pretty good. Thanks for all your good wishes!

I reached the USCIS office about 15 minutes before my interview time. But I ended up waiting for about 45 minutes - 1 hour before I was called. That was the worst part of the whole experience.

Then the examiner took me to this interview room. Had me stand and raise my right hand to "swear to tell the truth" etc. He said that he had time to go over my application before he called me so this should go rather quick. He asked me for my passport, GC and my driver's license. He didn't ask for any other originals or photocopies of any documents. Then he started going over my application. Confirmed a couple of things with me - full name, other names used, DOB, address, previous address, husband's status, his DOB, how long we've lived at each residence, date of entry to US, when I became a permanent resident, current company, last trip outside US, details of a few other overseas trips etc. Just basic info that was provided in the original application. He looked at the conditional 2 yr. GC (expired) and said he'd like to keep that one. So he returned all the other items except that. He went over the rest of the YES/NO type of questions - ever been detained, part of a communist party, ever been arrested, traffic ticket etc., do you pledge allegiance to US, will you serve in the military of needed etc. Basically to confirm the answers you gave in the N-400 form.

Then he got to the English test and asked me to read the sentence - Who is George Washington? Then he had me write on a piece of paper - Washington was the first president. That was the extent of the english test.

Then he started the civics test and asked me the following questions:

1. Name one war fought by US in 1900s - World War 1.

2. How many voting members are there in the house of representatives - 435.

3. How many years do we elect a house of representative for - 2 years.

4. In what month do we elect the President - November.

5. Who is the father of our country - George Washington.

I can't remember the last question, but I answered them all correctly, so he said I passed the civics test. He had me sign and initial a couple of places.

Then he said that everything looks good and he will recommend me for approval. He gave me a document that had two check marks against the 1. I passed the civics and english test and 2. Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval.

Now I just need to wait for the final approval and oath info to come across in the mail. I'm just happy to get this done with!! Hoping that everyone's interview goes smooth as well. Goodluck!!

I just wanted to get an idea of what all documents I should bring to the interview just to be safe. The mandatory list of docs I'm planning on taking are:

1. My current and expired passports.

2. My current and expired GC

3. IRS transcripts for last 3 years.

4. Original marriage certificate.

5. 2 passport photos (listed as optional but recommended in their letter)

What other documents would people recommend? Do I need my SSN card? Thanks!

No the USC spouse is not required to be present. Most spouses attend just to take pictures if you are at a service office that does same day oath. He does not have to skip work for your interview. They will call your name only which means he will not be allowed at the IO's desk. Good luck.

You can actually do it, only that some will require your reason(s) of doing early walk in and also depend on how busy they are.

Some will not ask you for anything, if they are not busy, so give it a trial everyone.

Has anyone tried to do a walk-in for their biometrics? Just wondering if you can do it for a citizenship application as well. I got my biometrics appt. letter and would prefer to do it on an earlier date if possible.
