  1. I live in NJ, but my fiancee will not be here until mid-2010 at the earliest. I'm very interested in this thread, and will answer any questions I can. I am a graduate student in Piscataway and have lived in NJ almost my entire life.

The majority of the people bashing New Jersey have probably never been here! It's a common thing to pick on NJ!

good luck to you guys! yeah.I'm used to those kind of responses anyway. They do not know what they are saying.:)

  2. I am aware of this too Fish. I have heard lot of stories from Visayas part of the Philippines. Actually most of them met on dating website which means there is really the INTENTION of hooking up on someone for the milk and honey which is no good.

I have heard million and one stories about pinays and sending money back home. I personally know so many pinays around me that would spend their husband's hard earned money to send it to their family back home who in turn spends the money like it grows in a tree that anytime they need something all they have to do is call their pinay relatives in the US ask for exorbitant amount of money. I know there's a place somewhere in the Visayas (no offense meant to fellow pinays who are Bisayas) with most filipinas marrying foreigners and the whole neighborhood is trying to outdo each other with how much money and what the pinays abroad is sending the family.

I also know a friend who works and sends all her money back home and almost everyweek something will come up that will need her to send money. She sends siblings to college and yet one didn't finish got knocked up and she still has to support them. She made them all parasites now she lost her job and family is mad at her calls her everytime asking for money and the poor girl don't know where to get the money....It's ridiculous I get so mad I want to strangle each of her family members.

Filipinas please tell your family back home to get a life and stop pestering you with money..... Grrrr

  3. They don't check on the firmness and stability either. What matters to them is that it's American and they fancy that they just hit the mother lode!

check on firmness and stability???? well i guess if that is what your requirements are, then you are up to something...Looking for the milk and honey huh. I am sorry. I am not after that. Why would i look for something i already have. You don't know what you are talking about!

You lie a lot, do you not? You can tell your story to the marines, but still nobody will believe you!

By the way, you and Gallstone will make a nice dumb couple!

 not forcing you to believe me. Peace.

To me, marrying an American is no jackpot. I’d rather stay here in the Philippines and hobnob with high society. If I were married to a member of the Spanish Royalty, then I would consider that as winning the kitty.

Who says marrying an american is a jackpot?

My question is a very simple one...I am not looking for an argument here. Yay! Pleasssssssssssseeeeee. :innocent: I am asking those filipinos who are in NJ and not those who just like to criticize the state.

  4. Been there. Seen most of the state. Didn't like it, especially Atlantic City and Trenton.

But, home is where the heart is. If you are happy there, that is all that matters. Don't take what happens in this forum too seriously.

    Peace.

    Peace.

  5. That’s the big faux pas by some Pinays. They cling on to just any American ####### regardless of which crappy state it comes from. In order for a Pinay to live an enjoyable life in America, she must say in her ad for a husband that only men from Hawaii, California, Arizona, Texas and Florida need apply! :star:

Excuse me!I came from a well to do family in the Philippines. My life in Phils is great.I had a very successful career, beautiful family. I did not come here in the states for the milk and honey. I am here because of love...love for my man. You can say whatever you want, criticize whatever state, i don't give a sh*t. Get a life guys! I asked a serious question. I did not ask for your sh*t responses.

  6. I think he might be referring to the guido and guidette factor there. Itz real...Good luck with that.

I just don't get it why there are some people who have nothing nice to say shut their mouth. I asked a simple question and that's the kind of response il be getting. They don't even know what they are talking about. I wonder if he has ever been to NJ. The hell i care with the guido and guidette.

  7. We were thinking about moving there because my wife has some relatives in NJ, but the jobs are a bit scarce right now as they are everywhere. One of my wife's cousins works as a dental assistant (she was a dentist back in the PH) and another cousin who works for one of the airlines at the airport in Newark. They both have live there now for awhile and seem content. It's nice if you are close enough to NYC for work, but I guess it really depends on the type of work you are looking for.

I have been here for almost 9 mos and I can say NJ is pretty cool. We are near Philadelphia, near the Atlantic City, two hours away from NYC. Where in NJ is your wife's relatives?

  8. Hi everyone! Happy Holidays! I have been here in NJ since April of 2009 and still haven't adjusted fully. The first thing I need to adjust was the weather, considering I am from east coast,so cold making my brain freeze all the time especially now it's winter. The coldest temp we have in Philippines is like 75deg Fahrenheit which is very normal temp in the states. Layering is the key to keep ourselves warm at this season. I am loving it. I prefer cold weather actually even if it freezes my brain, advil can ease the pain.lol

I assumed you will all agree with me that our lives turned 360 degrees when we decided to leave our mother land, leaving our comfort zone. The adjustment is so overwhelming. Culture, language, and age difference for majority. In my case, my husband and i are of the same age, first and last marriage (L) I felt like I was reborn, feeling like a child, growing and discovering alot of things in new environment. I have to learn to do chores, cleaning, cooking, laundrying and all, which I hardly do in Philippines. But hey, I am enjoying it,having fun learning how to cook although I miss my mom's dishes badly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Her adobo,kare-kare, kaldereta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crying: I tried cooking adobo, but i can't mimic the taste of my mom's adobo. Poor girl!(me) Thanks to my husband, even before i got here, he was able to find filipino store/restaurant near us where I can eat filipino dishes and buy fish sauce(patis),datu puti soysauce and vinegar, knorr's sinigang mix, etc. Goin to filipino store makes me feel i am in my mother land. It feels different, i must admit the more i miss home.

The first few months was fine,it was all excitement and thrill. More of observation of the things around me. The wide and clean roads which caught my attention. Malls where I enjoy walking around and checking stuffs. I tried hard to control myself from buying lol. Malls in Manila is always crowded, goin to restaurants or fast food chain is another story. :D I love the malls here. Feels good walking at the mall where you can actually run and won't be bothered by crowd coz there is no crowd at all. It is natural to feel homesick. There were times I would cry, missing my parents and my sister. If not for my very supportive husband, I would be crying everyday feeling homesick. He makes everything fine for me, his family is wonderful, they welcomed me to the family very warmly. I am very close to his parents. Last week, my mother in law brought me to NYC. It was amazing! I call my inlaws mom and pop. How about you guys? Most americans call their inlaws by name.

Another adjustment I will be facing is the driving. I started driving since 16 in Philippines. I have always driven a stick although I have tried driving automatic once but that was about it. As I observed the drivers in NJ, they really follow the speed limit, and road signs. I think I will have a problem.lol. As for all you filipinos know, how crazy filipino drivers are. No laws, no speed limit, drive aimlessly. FYI I got my driver's license in Philippines without taking written exams. Money talks as they say. It works. I remember there was a case in Philippines wherein a blind man was given a driver's license. Wow! The only problem I will have to face is their exams. I got the driver's manual and started reading them. It is givin me headache. Wish me luck girls!

I got my GC December 02,2009 before my birthday. It was a nice birthday present for me. I did not have an interview. My application was filed in Vermont Service Center but was transferred to California which was good because it was only in Cali when my papers were given full attention. We submitted our AOS first week of September. It was pretty fast after my papers was forwarded to California. So for those whose papers were transferred to Cali, it's a good sign. Now that I have my Green Card, everything now is official. I am a legal permanent resident of USA, " welcome to united states of america!" What are you waiting for? start find a JOB  I have been applyin online, no response yet. I am keepin myself optimist about it. I don't want another stress..K1 and AOS was very stressful one. I need a break from it.

For 8 months that I have been here, I keep myself busy. Almost 24 hours I am online  Corresponding to my family and friends makes me feel near them. Seeing their photos on special occasions like Christmas, All Soul's Day,where filipino families gathered together in those two occasions, geesh! the more I miss Philippines. My first christmas in the states....was great but nothing compares to what you have used to. Nothing beats familiarity. Being with my second family (my husband's family/relatives) last christmas eve,was an eye opener. It was a reality that I am no longer in Philippines. :crying: On special occasion like this, the more we will be depressed. It is important that we keep in touch to our family despite the distance. Hearing their voices, seeing them on camera, texting, will help.

I dunno what awaits me in new jersey. All I know is I left Philippines, everything there is, because of LOVE. I will never trade this LOVE I have for my man for anything else. I married an American because of love. He is awesome! He is the man of my dreams. My answered prayers. (L)(F)

  9. Got here August 26th.

Eto ang ginagawa ko gabi gabi... Recite with me:

"Palabok, lechon, manga at bagoong, isaw, fishball, binagoongan, bicol express, jolibee chicken, kfc gravy, taho, jolibee spag, longaniza, tocino, tapa, tuyo, crispy pata, at sisig."

Gumagawa lang ako ng listahan ng kakainin ko pag-nabisita ako sa Pinas ulit! hehehe.

You made me laugh here chinese mutt:) nice one! yeah same here, mag imagine na lang ako at mabusog hahaha.

  10. I am American Girl, I married my husband who is from Philippines. It just turned out that way. I didnt go" looking" for a foreign guy.....we just met eachother I never thought I would marry a foreign guy or an Asian guy, it just happened. .........its called LOVE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I agree with you...it is called LOVE...I had a great life in Philippines, beautiful family, successful career but I left everything for my husband. (L) I call it LOVE:) Where is your husband from? Is he working now? How was his adjustment?

  11. Thanks for the feedback. I tell her the amount that is the most which can comfortably fit into the budget and she gets upset, telling me that I'm cheap. She goes on and on about how other Filipinas she knows here had husbands who sent several thousand dollars a year (some of them are now in financially bad shape) and that I should be as generous as them. But if I gave that much money, we would be in financial ruin. What's wrong with asking my wife to go to work if she wants to supplement what I'm sending? I've asked her to go to work, but she insists that there are no jobs out there.

I feel sorry to say this but it looks like your wife is taking advantage of the fact that you always give in to her requests. I have been reading posts here in VJ and most of the girls that americans married are poor. No wonder why their families expect so much from the American. I hear you. I believe it is LOVE that should bind two people together and not money. I hope your problem will be solved. Where is your wife from?

  12. Why do you have to send money to her family? I am just wondering.

In my opinion, I don't think you have to send your wife's family a monthly allowance if i may say so. You married your wife and not her family.Talk to your wife and tell her the situation, that you can not send that much for them. Life in America is not that easy especially at this time so I understand what you mean. Be honest to her and make sure she is aware of all your daily expenses.

My wife arrived earlier this year from the Philippines and we've gladly sent some money to her family on a few occasions. Now she wants to send amounts that don't fit comfortably into our budget. If I give in, we'll be in financial ruins and if I don't, my wife raises a stink about it. I see this as a serious problem. Has anyone had similar issues - and perhaps some good resolutions?
  13. you are one very lucky person!:) how did you find the job? what website? I have been applyin online, filling out all those forms for almost two months and no response yet. I wonder if it is because of the holiday season?or because I don't have any experience yet in the states. Geeesh! It's kinda frustrating actually. But hearing something positive like yours, makes me feel good and hope still lol.

I didn't apply for an EAD, so I waited for the approval of my AOS application, which didn't take that long. As soon as I received the physical card, I applied for a job in research and development and was interviewed by the HR on the phone the following day, and I went to be interviewed further by several people in the company within the week of submitting my application. They called me back after the weekend was over and offered me the job. I reported to work a week after that.
  14. I am new here and I have my green card. I wish to apply for a job. It's been two months since I started applying online and I haven't receive any responses yet. I am keeping my faith and tryin to be optimist about it that sooner or later I will receive a phone call or email asking me for job interview. I wonder how did you guys landed to your job? Most of the companies are lookin for local experience, but how could i have one if they won't hire me.lol. Any suggestions? I want to work. ANyone who is from south jersey who could help me get a job?
