  1. My green card will expire this coming November. I have no idea what to file next. I heard I have to file it three months before the expiration which means I should file on August. Is there an appearance needed? coz I will be flying to California in August. I am from New Jersey. Any information, suggestions, tips and help is highly appreciated guys! What are the requirements/documents needed? Is there a link where I can find them. Thanks in advance.

thanks Markieboy. I was tryin to look for the requirements/documents that I need to submit, but can't find it here. I want to prepare them as early as now.

  2. Hello to all Pinoys and Pinays here in VJ! Hope everyone's doing well and adjusted to their new life here in the states. I know it will take time for us to be fully adjusted. There really is no place like home...no place like Philippines. :(:luv:

I love the weather here in the east coast, i never liked summer even if I was born and raised in the tropical country like Philippines. I hardly go out when it is too hot unless I am inside the car or when I am at the office where there is a/c.

I am doing great here, and my husband keep saying that I've been doing very good in adjusting to everything. But of course it is normal to feel homesick once in awhile. In my case that I am pregnant, the more i miss the Philippines, the food and my mom's dishes. The good thing about it is I learned to cook Filipino dishes when I got here in the states  I know it' ironic.

  3. Yeah would be nice if in English or if there was a tagalog only forum so we would not be wasting our time opening non English posts. We can not provide advice or answers if we can not understand.

Let's call everyone who will respond to this post to write in English to be fair enough. That's good suggestion guys! even if this is in the Philippines discussion area.

  4. Do they have their visitor visa already or are they applying for one pa lang?

If they have the visitor visa already, then my next question would be, how long are they planning to visit? He can stay in the U.S. up to before his I-94 expires or before his passport expires...whichever comes first.

If they don't have a visa yet and will apply for one, better to have the passport renewed early before applying for the visa.

My parents have a multiple entry visa which will expire after ten years :) I will be giving birth this november that is why they are planning to come here next month.

  5. Hi everyone! I have a question regarding Philippines Passport. My parents are going here in the states next month and they were telling me about my dad's passport which will expire on June 2011. From what they heard, passport from Phils goin to other country should not be close to 6mos the expiration. Is this true???? Will that affect his travel goin here in the states if his passport will expire on June 2011. What should be done?

  6. you will need to take written test only and you need to show your valid philippines license and it should not be close to expiring date!!the written test help is online at, edison driving school, princeton driving school etc.make sure they do not take your philippines license[you can keep that for id/driving there]they gave me mine back no problems

Cool!!!! I am really worried about the actual driving test. Though i have been driving for 18 yrs in the Philippines and if you know how it is in the Philippines when it comes to driving, it's insane! Filipino drivers are really one of a kind.lol.

    Thanks for your tip!!! :)

I applied for my New Jersey license last August. I had been driving in Canada for over 20 years. I had to do the written test and found it very difficult. I would recommend you study the online test questions before applying. I was one question away from failing but luckily passed. As far as the road test, I was told that it was up to the discretion of the person administering the written test. They did question me about my Canadian license as I had just had it reissued to show my married name. The agent thought I was a new driver, in which case I may have had to take the road test, but once I explained I had been driving for over 20 years he was okay. They are also very picky with ID in NJ , this site might help. Good luck and study, study, study!

Thank you very much for your response. I am anxious to take the written exam,I have been procrastinating about it many times. But I have to get one, this time. I need it badly. Can't even go out by myself since I dont have DL yet. Where in NJ are you from?

  7. Do I have to wait until my green card arrives before I can get a California Driving licence?

I read the manual and it says I could get one but it will expire when any visa I have expires, which is next month. I got married last week and filing for AOS ASAP, but will need a driving licence for my job, (mechanic).

I am still driving sometimes on my UK licence and hoping I don't get stopped lol! Is it legal to do this? I am guessing not, but everyone keeps telling me US cops don't stop you if you are driving good and not speeding... they sure do in the UK for no reason at all!

Better wait for your green card so you will just apply for DL one time. I hope you won't get caught driving without US license yet. Good luck:)

  8. Hi everyone! I am from New Jersey. I wonder if there are members here from NJ who were driving in the Philippines before. My question is did they still take the actual driving test or just the written exam? I have been driving for 18 years in Manila,Philippines and I was wondering if I would start from scratch here? Any information is highly appreciated guys! Thanks in advance!!!!

  9. You are not the only one having hard time to get a job. There are some who've been here for two years and until now they haven't gotten one. I got my EAD last week of October and from thereon I started applying online since most of the companies/stores/organizations will tell you to apply online. Got my greencard December and until February I still have no job. I stopped looking since I am now pregnant. It's pretty hard to start new life here.Just hang in there, keep searching, do not lose hope. I hope you will be lucky to get one soon.

    Hi Everybody:

I want to share my situation with all of you guys. I already have my EAD and still looking for a job and unfortunately nothing yet. :crying:

I know that our situation is difficut because of the economy but what make even more difficult for me Its that I only have experiences in the Aviation industry.

Does anyone have any suggestion?? I would really appreciate any good advice.

Thank you for your time and Good luck in your job hunting.

    Priscilla.

  10. My green card status is almost 2 years. Yeah i think i should be getting Phil passport since i am not yet US citizen.thanks:)

Your green card status is less than one year, right? So, you are not eligible for U.S. citizenship, nor a U.S. passport, at the moment.

Yes, you should be renewing your Philippine passport. Location of renewal depends on your state. Where is your location? You are required to renew Philippine passport in person.

  11. Hi everyone! I just got my green card last December 2009 and I found out today that my Philippine Passport will be expiring this June 07,2010. Where should I renew it? Isn't it that since I am a legal permanent resident, I should still be renewing it and not to get a US passport, right?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  12. I'll also be moving to Phoenix and will be looking for professional work in social work/psychology/counseling field. I'm in a good paying job now and I know the USA is hurting economically right now. I'm optimistic.

wow! good for you!:) We are happy for you. May I ask what was your previous work in social/psychology/counseling field? and where was it?

  13. Hi!My GC was granted last December 2009. My question is actually regarding my sister who visited me last year for a month since it is her vacation from work in Texas. She works in a cruise. After her contract, she went here in jersey and stayed with me for one month vacation before goin to Philippines for one month vacation too. I was thinking since she has her multiple entry tourist visa meaning she can go to USA even if she is decided to stop working at the cruise and maybe she can apply for a working permit here so she can work while she is on vacation for six months if she plans to. Is this allowed? If she plans to work in jersey where I live, what should be done? is there any particular paper that needs to be filed or something? I am actually clueless about this case. Need your help guys. Thanks in advance.

My life in Phils is great.I had a very successful career, beautiful family. I did not come here in the states for the milk and honey. I am here because of love...love for my man. You can say whatever you want, criticize whatever state, i don't give a sh*t. Get a life guys! I asked a serious question. I did not ask for your sh*t responses.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. Those with narcissistic personality disorder believe that they're superior to others and have little regard for other people's feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

oh a shrink talking here.LOL. Are you Mr.Know It All?Do you know where you are coming from? lol

  15. I was reading your post and replies and I hear you. Your husband and i are actually on the same page. I got my GC three months ago and have been applying online, filling out all forms again and again with all the websites I found. Name it,from craigslist to careerbuilder and a whole lot more. I had a very decent job in my country, and I did not expect it will be this difficult to get a job in the states even if one is educated.Education is not enough. The fact that we are immigrants make it even harder to land in a job.I was just crying a while ago. I hope this will pass sooner. The only thing that keeps me going is my husband's love, understanding, patience and his trust on me that I will be fine and that it will just take a little while before I can really start my life here. I will be one year next month in jersey. Getting a car is a necessity here, for you to be able to get a job too. I have researched on the net that as long as i have my driver's license with me in my country, I could just take the written exam, no actual driving test anymore. Let's say i get my DL here, but where's my car?How can i get a car if i am not even working?you know what i mean? Geesh! I dunno what is at stake for me....I am just living it up to the one up there, although I won't stop in filling out forms on line.:) I am sorry about your husband.I bet it is much harder for his case since he is the man. And all i can say is, just continue supporting him and make him feel he is doing a good job as your husband and soon to be a dad. Take care and good luck to us!

    Hey all...

Just need to vent a little. My hubby got his GC nearly a year ago-and he's had a really hard time finding a job. I think he's been employed maybe 3 months out of the past year. <img src="http://www.visajourney.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I have an ok job-it's not great but it pays the bills-barely. Unfortunately, the stress of our lack of finances has really been getting to me, and it shows. They want to cut my hours back at work because they say I'm working too much. That's only going to make our situation worse.

Hubby started school this month-we were hoping that would make it easier for us down the road. He's been filling out apps like crazy just looking for something part time to help out. So far nothing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

The timing of everything isn't great-if we had known my hours were going to be cut, we would probably have considered moving to a whole new area, but now that he's in school...we really want to continue with that. We live in East Texas, not the most economically booming area. There hasn't been a ton of job loss here, but there has definitely been some. And few if any new jobs at all. My hubby is really smart and a very hard worker-but unfortunately around here, it's less about what you can do, and more about who you know.

We're pretty stressed out about it all and I'm really at a loss as to what to do next. I'm just about ready to start looking for a second job myself. i just want to know that it's not just us. We don't personally know any other people in our situation. All of my coworkers have jobs (obviously) as do their spouses. We don't really know anyone else around here. My family is 1500 miles away, and his at least twice as far.

    Thanks for listening...K
