  1. I was thinking the other day, because Im going stir crazy sitting at home all day, that it would be nice to get out and meet people.

I saw a post for some people in Houston going out for dinner this weekend, and was pleasantly surprised to see that I wasnt the first to think of doing it.

Anyone in or around the Dallas area interested in a meet up ? Dinner sounds good, or any other ideas ?

  2. I believe that they took the HIV/Aids off the list awhile ago.

As for TB, it is my understanding that if she came out positive, she would only have to prove that she has started treatment, which takes 6 months. That you could still pass, POE, just not AOS until cleared up.

I think though, to ease your fears, it really comes down to ... does this complete stranger - the CO - believe you, have you provided enough evidence that the relationship is undeniable.

As for criminal record or previous overstay ... he wouldve been denied already if this was the case.

  3. Ahhh Krikit, I think you may be attempting to educate me here. Complete waste of your time :P

When I was trying to learn everything I could about the proper procedures for this process, I would read and read. I would email myself anything that was to long to read right then and there, or information that I knew I would need. This was one of those things I emailed to myself. So when I saw the OP question, I just went into my email, and found the thread I had kept on this topic.

So I may have been a bit on the lazy side with my reply

  4. I tried to to get my DL here in Texas. I was told that I needed something from immigration showing that I was allowed to be here for a min. of 1 year. The K1 obviously expired, and the I94 only had a 90 valitity date. Hence no DL for me. Once I get the green card though, its got 2 years on it, then I can go again, and get my Texas DL. Im just glad I dont have to do the tests again, so I wait it out.

But the advise I was given, sounds alot like yours.

  5. You will interview in Vancouver. Im not sure how sticky they are on where you do the medical aslong as its with the authorised docter. However, the docters wont give you an examination date until you have your pkg4 with your interview date. So it might be easier for you to do the medical in Vancouver anyways. It seems to me that they - the drs - try to scheduale your medical the day of +/- 1 of the interview.

As for your criminal check. Yes, you must have one done for every country you have lived in for more than 6 months as of the age of 16. I always go on the way side of caution and get all the information that I can rather than not have it at all.

  6. Trust me, THOSE ARE NOT Smarties ... not the ones us British/Canadians now living in the USA are talking about anyways. Those are little sugar pills that have no distinct taste. We are talking about little pieces of chocolate covered in multicolors ... I miss flake bars :( Those suckers were hard to find in Canada too, and they would show up in the strangest places, like Toys R Us or the local gas station every now and then ... I love taking a flake bar ... Hello 99 ... should be interesting to see what picture he would put up for a 99 ... or better yet ... I love chip buddies and im not ashamed to say so. Although I had one the other week, and my husband just stared at me like I lost my mind.

  7. From what I understand, she married a USC. She was going to visit him, and when she got to the US/Can border she was asked why she was traveling to the USA. She told them ... to visit a friend. The BG went through her bags and found a marriage certificate proving that she was married to a USC. They felt her "visit" was a "move" and denied her entry. They put a either 2 or a 3 year ban on her from entering the USA for lying.

  8. AR = no mans land

It really depends why your petition was put into AR.

I befriended a woman here, she was put in AR for almost 2 years. She had a ban on her, and I think that they waited until the time frame on her ban was up till they took her out of AR status, but thats just my opinion.

AR is so hard to give a time frame on.

  9. Thank you for the quick replies. So taking the passport can be a sign of approval even in the absence of the traditional "welcome to the united states..." verbal affirmation?

According to what I've read, if they were to put it under administrative review it could take months to years, BUT, they would have provided a document with the 221g code.

Just wondering what we should do to gain some sort of knowledge about what to do next.

How long must one wait to contact the embassy and inquire about the case?

It would really help to know where you from . . .

  10. Sorry for the late reply on this.

I read this post awhile ago, and it stuck in my head. Oh the little things we miss.

Heres one of mine .. Yorkshire Pudding. Love the stuff. My parents were both born in Glasgow, Scotland so Ive been raised with the british foods, and music, yes, I know every beatles song.

Well, just cause I like the stuff, doesnt mean I can make it. I cheat so bad with the little instant packages where you just add an egg and some water.

In Canada, easily found, probably something to do with being a British Commenwealth country. But in the USA .... not so easy. I did find though Kroger has a little british section of food, and lo and behold .. they have Smarties. I forgot Smarties are a Cadbury company - UKFTW

So if you cant find a British Foods Section in your grocery store, try a British store.

  11. I believe that you can enter the USA without having to activate the K1. Let the customs officer know that its in your passport and that you dont want to activate it. You will probably be questioned, just answer honestly and hopefully you wont have any issues. I have heard of this happening, and usualy Border Patrol ( this is Canada/USA though, so might make a difference ) will allow the travels without activation. But they dont let it go on forever. To my understanding, the USBC feels that if you have a visa, and you are traveling back and forth and not using the visa, then you shouldnt have it. But I dont think a one time business travel should be that big of a deal.

  12. I always thought that them keeping ones passport was a good sign. To me, in my case, and everyone else from Canada ( I cannot speak for other countries as I dont know the facts ) they take the passport, make up the visa, stick the visa into the passport, and return the passport with the visa in it. This process usualy takes up to 72 hours.

I hope this is your guys' case too !

  13. yes, they need a copy of your noa 2 - your letter. The one that invites you to the consulate.

Or a photocopy of the Visa from your passport, just cross out all private information. Also I sent a copy of my registration and drivers licence to prove that I was the legal owner of the vehicle. They also want the VIN number.

  14. BlueBonnet - Thanks for confusing me even me lol! I think I get the jist of what you are trying to say. So years down the line when I have met all the criteria to get my American passport I will be in the prize possession of both passports. Is there a way then once my English passport does expire in 2016 to go to the English Embassy in America to get it renewed, or will I have to come back to the UK and get it done here?

    Youre very welcome !

Have you not learned that everything about governments are confusing !

I too am a UK subject. The consulate we use is located in Washington DC. Heres the information

    3100 Massachusetts Avenue Northwest

    Washington D.C., DC 20008

    (202) 588-6500

Heres all the information you will need in the future

  15. I just did the OAS package. Im one of those people that goes over everything 3 times, and still worries about errors. Im sure I read that each submission required its own check except the I485 and bio could be combined, I did find this though.

    Filing Fee :

$985. (Add $85 biometric fee for a total of $1070, where applicable. See the form instructions for payment details.)

    Special Instructions :

Notes on fees: You may combine the $985 filing fee and $85 biometric fee into one payment of $1070. Checks must be made payable to Department of Homeland Security

I think it was so that if you had multiple forms and multiple fees, that maybe one of the forms had errors and they could send that one petition back, along with its check, while keeping and processing the rest. Whereas if you send 1 check, and the amount was wrong, USCIS would have to return everything. Seeing as how I cant find it right now, to back up my statement, I could very well be wrong, but Im positive I read something along those lines.

  16. The dual citizenship is a sticky area with the USA.

    It works like this.

If you are born somewhere else ie: UK you have citizenship there and can carry a passport. You ARE a UK subject and entitled to this passport.

Now you want to ( in the future ) become an American citizen aswell. You meet all the requirements and pass the test ... Yeah ! Ok, so now you are an Amercian citizen and are entitled to the passport.

Heres were the USA law comes under effect.

You are living in the USA, and a citizen. The USA does not reconise any other citizenship because you are Amercian, however the USA doesnt have any rights to say what other countries do in regard to you citizenship elsewhere. But the UK does allow duo and will reconise the USA one - therefore allowing you duo.

Hence, if you are a USC, the US government only reconises you as one but cannot make you give up citizenship elsewhere if the elsewhere allows due. Now, if you talk to a US official, they will tell you that you may not have duo, and in their eyes, they are correct, but they still dont have the right over the other country allowing the duo.

I hope I didnt repeat myself to much there, and I hope you got the idea. Its really just the mindset of the US government vs. other governments. And no one government can tell another or its citizens what they can or cannot do.

As for your DL, I believe you are good for 90 days with no issues, but after that I would check into the local DMV for their specific laws and regulations.
