Hey all. We have just rolled in the door back home from London. Totally exhausted.
The medical was yesterday and it was intense for me and my son.
First me..
Lady Doctor and eventhough i was armed with alot of medical letters, she is requesting more info. Good thing is, its info about a past spinal op i had and a rare genetic condition she has never heard of. Im needing to have MMR since the Rubella i had in 1975 just aint good enough
Plus i need a Tetanus since mine was over 10 years ago.
They let me call my Gp who is going to do both and fax the sheet back to the medical people when done. The total charge will be approx £7 for the jabs.
Since they are going to be requesting additional stuff i have opted to just let my Gp sort those jabs.
She didnt look down my pants but took a very good look and examination of my boobs. Then her main focus was my legs, Hammer out, she did a full neurological exam of both.
I can understand why she focused mainly on my legs, since my slipped disc that was removed and my systemic sclerosis, nail patellae syndrome, i have partial numbness and do walk with a slight limp, pains in my knees etc. I dont think its like this for everyone, because I was in the room when she did my son and she didnt check his legs at all.
My son next. He is 16 but was very nervous and requested i was there for his medical. She was fine about that.
For him she was alot more intense with her questions, i felt a tad bombarded. He may need glasses, so we have to get his eyes tested and then fax the letter back to them.
She wants our GP to refer him for a sleep study..blood tests..and a endocronologist. Plus wants more medical info on his past history.
I must say at this point i was about ready to flood into tears. But fought them back.
She did say, not to worry and more than likely everything is going to come back perfectly fine for him.
She pulled the curtain around and checked his bits and i heard her say "cough".. he was a real trooper.
Over 2 hours later..we were given 4 letters with several things she wants to be done before sending our medical notes to the embassy.
When we got outside. We were relieved to say the least! We then walked back to our norman bates hotel
trying to look on the bright side.
I have no idea how much our case is going to be delayed now. Maybe she will just be satistfied when the sleep study and referral to the endocronolgist are done. Or maybe she will want to suspend our results, till he has been seen by the sleep study people and endocronologist. Knowing the NHS thats going to take time. Months? I just dunno.
Other than those two things, everything else is going to be plain sailing and we should manage to get done over the next few weeks.
Will keep you all posted on what does happen. For now im just trying to think positive and just go with the flow.
Funniest part of the medical was me coming out of the xray room and walking part way into the drs room, thought it was the waiting room where i had left my son! Oops
haha i must have looked like a right clutz.

Your timeline doesn't say what visa. You actually don't have a timeline.
K visa is $350
Applicants pay the fee to the Embassy cashier on the day of the visa interview. Fees may be paid in cash - sterling or dollar equivalent; by International Money Order or Bankers Draft; Credit Card - Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Discover or American Express; or Debit Card with the Visa logo. The Embassy does not accept any other credit or debit cards, or personal checks.
Nonimmigant and Immigrant visa applicant who attend the Embassy in person for an interview with a consular officer will have their passports returned to them by DX Secure; there no other method of delivery available. The service can be purchased from a DX Secure representative at the Embassy on the day of the interview. Fees for this service begin at £14:50, payable by debit or credit card only.
Thanks for the replies all.
Im an old fuddy and usually only use cash. But looks like i have to get hip and do cash and card transactions while down there. Hoping i can use my daughters debit card for the courier. Since i dont own a card.
Sorry Nich aye it is K1 visa i was after. As for my timeline, me and computers dont get along too well, other than for basic things.
Plus all this fancy 007 codes and jargon in peoples timelines, I get confuzzled on what they are talking about. Honestly, dont think mine would look anywhere near as good as some of the nice ones i have seen
-
Im just sorting the funds for this weeks shenanighans in London.
Now i know the Medical can be paid in cash £200 each
Can someone please clarify for me if i can pay the visa fee and courier fee with cash?
Just some posts i read say cash or card and others say card only. So which is it?
Also could someone clarify the cost of the visa fee and courier?
Plus i read everyone took two US sized pics to the interview. But on the Embassy site im sure i read 3. Has something changed recently?
Thanks
-
Looking forward to mine too. Im just viewing it as a good old check up on my chassis.
This threads a good read

I LOVE YOU ALL A LOT. They clearly did not lose the paperwork, I called DoS using Maven's number this morning and my fiance has been scheduled for an interview on August 12th! YAY! It is now time for celebratory bourbon vice soothing bourbon, I assume!
Andrea
Good Times
Heres a video. This will be me when i emigrate! Haha

Im not a kid but i do appreciate a box of Hot Tomales. My Fiance got me addicted to them when i visited the States and for the life of me i cant find them in the Uk.
Whenever i fly to see him, he is always waiting Hot Tomales in hand at Dulles airport for me <3
My last trip to America i asked my daughter what she would like bringing back and she said Twinkies
So i sqweezed a box into my hand luggage for her. Crazy i know! But thats what she wanted.
I went to visit Walmart and got some of the T-Shirts they sell. Funny ones like..
"Internet was down today so decided to come outside"
"You dont need to be crazy to work here, we train you"
"Its all fun and games till the cops show up"
They were all really cheap, under $10 and for a teenage lad with a daft sense of humor..perfect!
Grabbed a few paper back books too for my hooligans. Great, since the space in my suitcase and hand luggage is always limited. So limited, i sit on it to shut
The gifts dont have to be fancy or expensive. Its the thought that counts.

Thanks, Twinkles, it does kind of help. I may restrict myself to calling the DoS phone number elmcitymaven posted. Part of my problem is that I've worked for the US gov't in one capacity or another for 12 years now, so I am hyper-aware of how often paperwork gets lost and other weird random problems occur.
Andrea
I understand. For me it was just my brain telling me Royal Mail takes a few days to deliver.
That plus i think when others receive mail from moi they open right away. I can vision them all googly eyed with excitement as they open it! Maybe i need help with this thought concept. Note to self: Not everyone is as excited with mail dropping on their mats as you Twinkles
So when i called the Embassy and they said "nope we aint got it" I was sitting there thinking LIES!! xD I then seemed to transform into some sort of FBI Agent and interrogate them on the phone. Diary in hand with my postal date..how long i had waited..The calls i had made to them..and a speech of how glorious our postal service is in this Country!
I was trying to make them crack. Mulder and Scully style and admit my packet 3 was now being used as a foot stool by a woman in the visa dept, who had hairy feet!
I dont think i have had to deal with such a big complex and what the heck do i do now system before. So this has really tested my mental endurance.
I found it extremely hard not to call them daily after that first call.
Its like someone had placed a chocolate cake infront of me and said "your not going to touch that are you??!"
and i would be sitting there thinking ask a daft question, why dont ya
My logical brain knows to just chill. But then theres my illogical side that just cant but help to pick up that phone and say "oi! have you been attacked by aliens or sumthinz??"
Thats my personal experience of just sending in the packet 3. You just dont want to know what im imagining for the medical and interview :s
-
Personally, I wouldn't think it would make a difference, especially as I think one of the requirements of the K1 visa is that your passport has at least 6 months of validity on it, so you would need to get it renewed soon anyway. Do you get your expired passport returned to you in the UK when you renew? I know you do here in the US, so what you could do is renew your passport and then take your old passport along with you when you go to your visa interview. That way you could show that you had that passport number, but that you also renewed it as well.
Aye you get your old Uk passport returned to you when you renew in the Uk.

I mailed my packet 3 and checklist in May, roughly the 20th.
It took a month of waiting for it to be logged on their system. With hindsight i would say i wasted alot of money calling them every week.
Two weeks after this i received my interview date for 30th July.
So i would say London are taking approx 6 to 8 weeks from you mailing your packet to you standing in the actual Embassy.
So if im hazarding a guess for you. I would say start preparing yourself for the back end of August early September for Londons trip.
They gave me a good months notice for my interview appt. At the time i swore blue air cos i thought i was good to go right there and then! But again with hindsight that months notice has been a god send.
I would say use this time to go over every detail of what you will take to the Embassy interview.
Check..double check..and then just take the last few weeks of the process on this side of the pond to just chill and torment family or friends you are going to be leaving behind before you start your new life.
Im having great fun tormenting my daughter xD but shhh
Edit:..Oops my bad, i didnt realise my first post was posted! Bending over
-
Reading what you have said it sounds very similar to what i panicked about just a few week ago.
Mailed my packet and checklist in may i think it was around the 20th. One month later it was on the system..frantic month of panic and i would say now with hindsight wasted phone calls to the Embassy every week on my part
Approx 2 weeks later i got my interview letter for July 30th.
So with all that being said i would say it is taking approx 6 to 8 weeks from the day you post your packet 3 and checklist to standing in the embassy. Hope that helps.
I try to keep in mind now they dont just deal with K1

Just need to vent..
Our medicals are a few days time. I just got out of hospital last night..not a good time for this to have happened!
All has been plain sailing with my health conditions being totally stable and then a few days ago..chest pain..collapsed.. argh ambulance..sirens the whole sha bang!
But im not going to let this phase me. I guess the good side is, the hospital did chest xrays..ecg..abdominal scan..blood tests the lot, on me the last few days. So maybe i should look at this as a pre med, medical check.
I did get an antibiotic drip, so nice little boost there..was kind of frustrating though that they placed my bed right next to a freaking pneumonia patient *face palm*
Im home now and have a few days to pick myself up before the long trip to London. Im going to have to mention this at my medical. Not as though i can hide the fact somethings happened, since my hand and arms are like a pin cushion from the drip tap and needles.
Will post update next weekend, after we get home from the Medical and Embassy letting you all know how we got on.

Hi guys,
I hope my question does not sound offensive but I need to ask it. Like many of us, I met this wonderful filipina on the net. We are net dating for a while. She is mid 20's and I am mid 40's. Recently I went to meet her and I was very happy I did. We spent a very wonderful time.
For some reason, many people think that every one in USA is rich. Which is not the case. I am not a rich guy. I am a regular guy with an engineer job who works to pay his expenses including: car, house, utilities, and a little bit to save.
I am having a hard time believing that she actually likes me. I am not even near Danzel Washington in look. Not at all. (I am a Latino with very dark skin.)
My co-worker from china saw the pictures that I took on my trip. She said," wow..she is so beautiful". Then she looks at me and said "You are a wonderful person. No kids, not married, hard-worker, and have a nice profession. Why dont you try to find a professional lady here in usa? I would hate to see you getting hurt or taking advantage of"..then I said why? she said, " I dont like to read a book by it covers but just think about it, a very beautiful and young girl what do you think she expects from a guy your age $$$$$" For a moment I did not want to face the true..and I said..well..hmmm.....then she said, " exactly". ...then she continues by saying, "do me a favor..... tell her you will marry her with one condition, with a prenup. It is easy to say I love you but not so easy under those terms"
What do you guys think? I really do not want to ask her because I know that will be the end of our relationship...
Im not offended by your question. I have a Fiance patiently waiting for me in the USA. I love this man to pieces. Eventhough he has told me he trusts me and he is the one with the $$ btw and not me.
It was me that brought up a pre nup. I simply took a step back and thought if i was in his shoes, how would some others be looking in on our relationship.
I dont want to start our marriage with whispers about me being a gold digger. Its bad enough for me him getting the "oh your marrying a foreigner comments"
I cant change the Country i was born in, but i can certainly address any gold digger concerns.
There are people who find this whole meeting on the internet hard to grasp. I advised him as a friend would have. Protect your assets!
Crikey i have watched some of my own family get screwed over in divorce. I can say till the cows come home "hinny dont worry *bats eye lids* i wont screw you over if we ever divorce"..But those words mean jack all if god forbid we ever did divorce.
With a pre nup, im giving a legal declaration that im not marrying him for his assets only his asse <3
I hope it sends out a clear message to anyone with doubts about me of what my true intentions are and that is to love this man with all my heart.
He of course didnt like the idea but im not asking...im insisting.

Can fully understand why you are getting confused when reading the different Forums.
Since different Countries Embassys are more stringent than others.
My advice would be to go to the Regional Discussions forums and click on the United Kingdom one.
I dont recall me sending in any of the two things you mentioned with my packet 3. I just posted the checklist with ticks on and all the forms i had to fill in.. DS156 etc etc.
I took photocopies of everything i mailed to the Uk Embassy and will take those copies to my interview there on the 30th.
All of the supporting documents, if i understand correctly are not to be mailed to the Uk Embassy but are to be taken to the actual visa interview in London on the interview day.
Such as..
Police checks *Original and photocopy*
Birth certs *original and photocopy*
His financial details, tax statements, employers letter
Few photos ..plane tickets *yet from what i read nobody was asked for them on UK Embassy interview day*
etc etc

We have our interview for K1 visa on the 30th July. I just want to double check on this quote i found of what my Fiance needs to send me for my Interview.
1.A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).
2.Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.
Does he need to send me all of this for the Uk Embassy? For instance, his original birth certificate and original of divorce decree?
He says he only submitted copies of these for the I-129f. But after reading this it seems i need originals for my interview?
Im pretty clear on what i need to take for myself and son, but its confusing of what i need to take regarding my Fiance who is sponsoring us.
Any advice appreciated.

Easy to fix. Go visit the friendly post master at the post office. The place your postman picks up the mail from before he delivers to you. Not the local shop
Then he will freeze all mail for that old address *free of charge he did for me* he will hold it all in the post offices pigeon holes for you.
You then take ID in and pick up your mail at a day and time to suit you.
I did this last year when i had to move out of my home for 6 weeks while building work was being carried out.
If your move is out of the area completely then i think for a charge you can have mail redirected to a new address.
Best bet is to nab your actual postman and just ask him where he picks up your mail every morning.
Get his boss the post master who will be more than happy to explain the best solution for your specific problem.
Me and my daughter got to know our post master so well that when she went to pick up mail from his office, he would wave and not even ask for ID, once seen never forgotten? haha

Hey All,
Can anyone tell me if my daughter, who is 18 and never worked in Health Care, with the Homeless, etc, needs to get her Hep B vaccine for her Greencard to the USA.
If so, can she get it on the day. It's a 3 shot vaccine though ... can she get the first one in London and then the rest here in the USA when she arrives?
Please let me know if you have any experience of this.
R.
Just an update for you. I just got home after the second shot of this course and i did remember to ask the Nurse for more info on it.
3 doses the fastest you can have all 3 shots is over the course of 21 days..7..14..21 is how she explained it.
Something to do with building up antibodies.
Aslong as you have had the first shot of the course that is good enough she said. Then at a later date convenient for you, you can get the rest done in England or America. Will be your choice.
Its irrelevant what past occupations your daughter has done. From what i understand Hib is on the vac list.
Should also add we just got 2 jabs one in each arm today. Free swine flu shot she offered *she had some made up from patients she had just seen* and other than watch her throw away in the dustbin, which she would have had to do, we just rolled our sleeves up and said "sure hoi it in!"
It is the Hep A and B we are having. One you should be charged for the other is free when they are given in separate single forms.
But there is a Joint vac available on the NHS. If given in joint Hep A and B together there is no charge £. So we obviously are having the course of 3 joint form vacs
Hope that helps answer your question. I grilled the Nurse pretty darn good today haha!
We go back on the 23rd July for our last shot. So feel free to ask away, if you want me to ask the Nurse anything else. She is a canny lass =)

Me and my Son, he is 16, are currently getting this via our Gps Nurse *Getting 2nd dose on Monday*
She told me when we got our first shot that aslong as we had started the process of the three shots that would be fine for the medical.
Im unsure if you can get them all on the same day. Ours have been 6 weeks apart so far. Although we are hoping to be booked in for the third and last shot before the 29th July(medical day)Guess i will know the answer to that, this Monday.
If i remember, i will ask the Nurse if this can all be done on the same day. She is lovely
and likes a chat.
Btw we got this free on the Nhs

All our American friends and family are similarly shocked...I haven't mentioned to them how much it costs, but what they all found the most surprising was the medical and the peek down below!
I just got off the phone after booking my Medical. Im at the stage in thinking, that i dont really care what they want a flash of xD May God have mercy on the Doctors soul!

To my knowledge, it is not necessary to fly from Heathrow in order for cats to leave England.
I suspect Heathrow is mentioned a lot here, simply because it is a very popular choice of airport.
Ah understood. After reading yours and doghandlers posts, i breathed a big sigh of relief!
Thanks alot to both of you =)
-
That's cool then twinkles, ya never know you may well see me there!!! My appointment is at 9.30am.
8.30am
Never been to London for years! So better brush up on my map reading skills.
-
I have seen Heathrow mentioned quite a bit in this thread. Am i wrong to assume that cats leaving the Uk for America must leave via Heathrow?
Any advice is much appreciated.

I don't think I have TB.
I however quite obviously had the latent infection and fought it off. So I never had the vaccine. I don;t have the scar everyobne else has.
What I'm very confused about is if my sister was treated for possible infection and had the full tests, why her family were not tested/treated if the chance of developing the disease is 1 in 10 if you are exposed via an infected person.
And I'm worried that having had the exposure I'm going to have to pay for furthur tests.
There's no need to go off on me. You seriously would not be worried you might need extra testing if this was the case for you?
Few things you could do.
Contact your Gp and discuss your concern with him/her.
My own medical history is very complicated. Several rare conditions. I have not only contacted my GP but also spoke to my Hospital Consultant, who very kindly and free of charge, wrote the most positive *all things considered* letter
on my behalf.
I can take this letter to my medical and my visa interview just incase my medical conditions raise questions.
If after all of this, they still have questions, they are more than welcome to pull my medical files, run tests or w/e they like.
I have even been consulting with my Gps practice Nurse as to the vaccinations that are needed and she has been vaccinating and helping me pull my vac records for a few weeks now.
As for the cat. I realise your attached to it, have 3 of my own. What i would do is simply book the cat into a Vet for a check up..They can check themselves to see if the cat is chipped.
You say the neighbours abandoned him. So why would you think it would be taken away from you? You love the animal, take care of it and obviously have provided a home.
Its a stray? then you are the owner of that animal now.
Lastly try to keep calm. You do your health no good at all by worrying like this.
Im no expert on self harm, but i have read other peoples stories who have been succesful in the Visa process. Try keep that in mind. You must try think positive. Onwards and upwards! Good luck

Well i sent my packet3 on may 24th received my letter on the june 11th with my interview date july 30th. Which took about 18days to receive the letter & interviews are between 6-8 wks after sending packet3.
Roughly same as this. Sent our packet 3 off on May 12th. Waited a month before it showed up on Embassy system as received by them. June 24th i received the letter with the interview date for July 30th. So same interview day as you weescot xD
-
Hi guys,
Do you guys know what my fiance needs to submit after she receives the packet from the embassy?
My understanding is she just have to get the medical done and get the police/birth certificate.
Then she needs to call the embassy and get the appointment right?
If I am incorrect, please feel free to correct me
Guessing you mean packet 3? Which isnt actually a packet but a simple letter with web site links. So she will be able to go to the web site and print off all the forms that need to be filled in by her.
http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/iv_15.html
Heres the link to the Embassy it explains what you need to know.
Clarify for me please Cash or Card

Thanks for the link. Just attempted starting my timeline!
Edit: Ok its done, but how do i get it to show at the bottom of my posts?
