Just did the Biometrics walk in....
i went to the NYC ASC, even though my appointment was for the Brooklyn ASC, no one mentioned the fact that i was 3 weeks early for the appointment, just that i was at the wrong ASC.
I had to explain that the reason i went to the NYC ASC is that i work about 6 blocks away, and it was so much more convenient just arriving there at 8am, rather than traversing my way to the unfamiliar location on the other side of Brooklyn to where i live....
They were super nice about it though.... although, there was a Chinese fellow who's appointment also seemed to be scheduled for Brooklyn, but they told him to leave....
I'm not sure why.... i think that either they didn't have sufficient translators, or he was doing Biometrics for a different reason....
Just something to be aware of i guess....
Glad you could do it at a more convenient time! Here's hoping for a speedy interview!

Hiya Kittifang,
thought I respond to you as I am quite entertained by your way of sharing your waiting time - and even though I'm in the very same situation as you are, it does take my mind off the nerve-wrecking wait time, at least let's me see it with a sense of humor. It's too bad that there is no real standard timelines and from what I read and heard, biometrics, interview dates are always depending on the workload and or other influences towards the employees at the local UCSIS service centers...sigh....
Good luck with your application!!
M.
Thank you very much! I'm happy I could make someone laugh! And yes, I agree, it's very stressful to try to "understand" what would be a normal time line. I guess, as you said, it depends on where and when the petition is at, but also who has it. Some people work faster than others.
-
Well Kittyfang, did you get any biometrics notice. I applied a day earlier, got my NOA email on the 11/09, got the physical NOA on 11/11, and on 11/11 there was a LUD. Till today I am waiting for the Biometrics, really very anxious. Update if you receive
Not yet, but I'm mildly confident, according to other people's time line, that I should be getting it this week. If I don't, I will give them a few weeks and call them up.

Wow! I am happy to see that things are moving pretty fast for you. So you became friends with the mailbox?I hear you! I think everybody on this forum went through this... Good luck!!!
The mailbox, the mailman, the Reload button on my browser, all those!
-
You could also get in your car and chase him down before he even gets to your house.
Oh my, I'm already being creepy enough! I've actually put our dogs outside when they didn't need to go and pretended to play with them while waiting for the mail... The bad thing is that, for some reason, the mailman has started doing his rounds half an hour later! I don't know if it's related, but it's awkward!

Don't worry, I understand and honestly am glad someone caught that typo pretty quickly. It is a HOT TOPIC right now and we need to do whatever we can to keep the confusion to a minimum, especially since peoples' futures are on the line.
I agree 100%. Being Canadian, the VWP didn't apply to me, but even I had a moment of panic and wondered if it did. I think I even asked about it (was told it doesn't apply). I hope the whole thing gets resolved quickly and that offices can get on the same page. It seems like we're seeing a lot of "I'm on VWP, can I apply for AoS, will my overstay have an effect in my state/district/area?".
-
Sorry for the type, I meant "AOS for VWP Overstayers"
Didn't mean to go all typo police. It's just that many people from VWP country don't know about the new development of VWP and they set themselves up for disappointment.
-
You must make sure for file early enough that the AOS package is accepted BEFORE the end of her 90 days. Recently AOS Overstayers are getting denied and deported.
Overstayers from VWP countries who came in on VWP are getting denied, as opposed to coming in on visa, or from non VWP country.*

I looked really goofy on my pic!!! LOL
Kitty, I feel for ya, I just sent my RFE and they are not doing anything yet but we are both stressed and obsessed!!! lol
I am sensung Biometrics going your waaaaay
Thank you! I'll be checking the mail impatiently tomorrow... maybe I should just pull up a chair by the side of the road and make the mailman REALLY uncomfortable!

I'm pretty good! Can't believe this year is almost over! I have to remove conditions in only 7 short months! Not looking forward to gathering everything up! It's currently all piling up in a big tub. Should be interesting to sort through!
Anything else new with you? You must be excited to get everything done!
I'll pop by again soon
/starburst
That's awesome! I hope everything goes smoothly for your ROC!
Oh we're terrified, stressed, obsessive... But yes, excited is in there somewhere!
-
Thank you for your answers!
I'll wait for the letter and see what it says. If time of the day isn't a big deal, we'll show up on the appointed day. If not, we might try our luck sooner. Maybe. hehe

I don't know about colombus,OH but here in Louisville, KY they had a sign that pretty much said they will take walk ins except that people with appointments at that time have priority in line.
I know it is a long drive for you but what I would do is may be call them and ask? or you can go and say that you thought you should try before the time. I honestly dont think they will turn you down if you said you drove from a far place. I live about an hour drive from Louisville and they were nice enough to take me in!
That's the thing. I'm wondering if I can call them. Will I have their specific phone number on the letter or should I just call the misinformation hot-line?
-
woooooh just got Biometrics appointment letter, scheduled for December 8th in Brooklyn....
Gonna look into the possibility of a walk in appointment... i wasn't expecting this for maybe a week or so
Congratulation on the appointment!
I'm curious, do you have a time of a day indicated as well, or simply a date? I dread having an 8 am appointment!
-
I don't believe the time of day is an issue. Walk-in "success" seems to be based on how busy the ASC is on that day.
Also FWIW, when we went last week for Linh's (final) biometrics there was a yellow threat level posted on the wall and the sign stated that only appointments for that day would be accepted. Now I didn't ask the person checking in the appointments how closely that was enforced.
Thank you very much! If we can go at any time of the appointed day, then that will work out fine. I'm just terrified to have to go and get caught in traffic and possibly be late, etc.
-
Don't worry mine is horrible! hahahah
Hey Starburst! How have you been!
-
I haven't received the letter yet, but my husband and I are trying to figure out if we should go at the appointed time, or if we should try to do a walk-in. Our concern is that if our scheduled time is at 8am, or something like that, it will be a huge headache. We live far from there and the morning rush hour would je be a huge pain.
So, has anyone tried to do a walk-in in Columbus, Ohio? And, is there a phone number we can call to ask them if they would let us do it?
-
No you're right That's what I said above
oh wow, I'm sorry! I didn't read the last part hehe. So, YOU were right! I was just a stinking copycat!
-
Also, if it makes you feel better. I have read on VJ that Intent cannot be used alone to deny (as well as overstay). They are negative factors for sure, but if they are the only factors, they will not be used.
I could be very wrong, again, this is what I read on VJ from some very informed members. I'm sure someone will come along to correct me if I am wrong.
-
I hope you have nothing to worry about as far as background checks
Best wishes
Not that I can remember hehe. I'm just paranoid about things like that. My train of thought is thus: "Well, I did bump into someone the other day. Maybe they didn't like my apology? Maybe they took offense? Maybe they called the cops! Maybe I'm on a wanted list because I don't KNOW that the cops are looking for me! Maybe... argh!"
hehe, it's super sane and not at all obsessive. hehe

Try not to be sleepy. They'll take your picture dear and guess what. It is going on your GC
I think Harpa's crystal ball is right but we shall see!
Goodluck
Oh great! That's all I need! To look like a drunky on my GC!
-
There is no way to know that you've cleared it. We got only one touch that wasn't clearly related to sending letters or updating after biometrics, so I guessed that that was our background check. But really, it's just a guess.
Thank you! I wasn't too sure because on Trackitt's website (on their spread sheet), they have a column for people having cleared their biometrics. But, they much be going with their guess.
-
As you can see from my time line, everything seems to be going quickly, for now.
When do they do the background check? I'm guessing before they send the Biometric appointment, or is it after? And is there a way to know you've cleared it?
-
I just got my first touch today AND I got the hard copies of the NOA1s. Wow! Someone in there is working likedy split!
-
Hmm, yeah... you could probably show up late... but no guarantee.... maybe they will give you an afternoon time
I'll show up whenever they need me. I might just be very sleepy if it's early in the morning.
TRUTH OR LIE!?
in Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas

As Harpa Timsah said, the truth is always better. That and the fact that it's against VJ's ToS to advise anyone to do anything illegal (such as lie to USCIS).
Boiler is right. Working illegally, as well as overstaying cannot be used alone to deny an AoS. The IO might give you a sermon, but, as I understand it, he/she cannot deny an AoS because of illegal work/overstay.
