An i131 needs to be submitted to the uscis,  Manila uscis is closed.

Do you think that would work for  him even though he did not lose his green card. He never had a reentry permit.

Form I-131A allows you to apply for a travel document if you are:

    • Returning from temporary overseas travel of less than one year, and your Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card or Form I 551) has been lost, stolen or destroyed; or
    • Returning from temporary overseas travel of less than two years and your Reentry Permit has been lost, stolen or destroyed.
  2. I found  this page on the US Embassy in the Philippines website. I think this applies to my father-in-law in case he cant make  his flight out of manila on  March 21.

    https://ph.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/returning-resident-visa/?_ga=2.132363662.1219873438.1584302027-1205549113.1584302027

His problem is getting to Manila. He is staying in Northern Samar and our family there is telling us that they are not allowing people to take the fairy off of Samar island.

  3. "Under the IATF's resolution, land, domestic air, and domestic sea travel to and from Metro Manila will be suspended. Community quarantine will also be imposed in the entire metropolis."

I wonder if that means they will allow him to go to the airport for an INTERNATIONAL flight?

Plus he is a permanent resident of the U.S. I know the ban on travel from Europe to the US does not apply to permanent residents or us citizens.

  4. No he did not get a rentry permit before he left because he was planning on returning within 1 year. Although they say you are supposed to get the reentry permit before you leave the US, maybe the embassy will approve it considering the lockdown as a good reason. Leaving out of Cebu is another option.  His flight is on UAE and they don't fly out of Cebu, so we would have to get his current reservation refunded.

  5. My father-in-law, a Philippine citizen,  is a U.S Permanent Resident. He has been visiting in his home town in Samar since April 3 2019. He has a plane reservation to fly back to the U.S. from Manila on March 21. With the lockdown, we are worried he will not be allowed into Manila to make his flight. But, if he doesn't return by April 3, he will be out of the U.S. for a year, and from what I understand, he will not be allowed back by U.S  immigration due to being out of the country over 1 year. Does anyone know if they will make an exception in this case, and allow him back into the U.S. after the lockdown is over?

  6. Thank you for all  your help missads. If I had not found your thread, I may never have known this was possible.

Anyway, my 75 yr old father in law arrived here in Dallas,TX on May 6, 2018 from the Philippines on a IR5 visa. Last week I successfully signed him up for a silver plan thru the healthcare.gov website. He qualified for a $975 ptc, so his monthly premium is  $11.91. Only 2 silver plans were available, Molina and Ambetter, and when I googled reviews for them they were bad for both, but I figured some coverage is better than no coverage. Ambetter would have been $143 a month after the ptc, so I figured since the reviews were bad for both, I chose the cheaper one, which was Molina.

My question is that he is required to submit documentation of his income by Sept 1. His income is 0. Since he will not be filing a tax return until January, and he does not work, what can  I use to show that his income is 0. Somewhere in your thread I think you mentioned doing an affidavit. Is that my only option as far as you know? Does anyone have experience with proving income in this situation?

  7. I was reading this thread and found it very helpful,  and then realized the original post was made in 2011. I don't know if anyone is still following this thread, but here is my question:

I noticed a few of you are from the Philippines. My father-in-law has an IR5 and will be coming from the Philippines to the U.S. in a couple months. Does he need to attend the Pre Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) before he leaves?

  8. Question: My wife's father received his IR5 visa yesterday and it shows that it is only good for 3 months. It expires May 20, 2018. We assumed it would be good for 6 months, so we had already booked a flight to go to Manila and pick him up. Our return flight arrives in Dallas on the morning of May 19th. My question is, will there be any problems with him arriving only 1 day before the expiration of his visa? Does his visa have to be valid for some period of time after he arrives here? Any insights into this would be appreciated.

So wait .. you did not mail them a marriage ceritificate in the original application ?

No, we did not.  My wife is petitioning to bring her father here. In the instructions it said to provide her parent's marriage certificate, her birth certificate and her certificate of naturalization. It did not say anything about OUR marriage certificate.

I just received a text msg that they are mailing us a RFE. Hope its nothing major.

The RFE was for proof of name change, (my wife changed her name when we got married). I did not read anything about that in the instructions when I was putting together the application. Anyway, I will mail a copy of our marriage certificate to them this weekend.

  12. New citizen here  . Ceremony was last Thursday at the Irving Texas Field Office. Schedule was supposed to be @ 8:30, but they started the check in process around 8:45 which took about 45 minutes. The ceremony itself was about the same time, so i was out there before 11am. , and no table for passport processing only for the voter registration. Citizenship is finally done for me and my son. For all the December filers who still in process hang tight and good luck!

    Next step passport application.

    Congratulations!

My wife's oath ceremony is tomorrow morning. Since she happens to work in Irving, she is going to take the morning off from work and go to the ceremony and then go to work. Hopefully, it won't be raining very hard tomorrow. It will be nice not to have to deal with a green card anymore. Like you wrote, the next step appears to be applying for her passport. Eventually, I think she needs to renew her Filipino passport, (which has expired) because she wants to have dual citizenship in case she wants to buy real estate someday in the Philippines. I know she also wants to petition to bring her parents here. Also, now she can vote. Yay. :)

  13. UPDATE:

It's been a week since i had my interview. went online this morning to check for updates and............"Oath Ceremony Notice Was Mailed"..Wohooooo!!

If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

    Way to go!

  14. Just finish with my interview today in the Irving, Texas site.. " Congratulations! Your application is recommended for approval". IO told me to wait for the Oath Taking Letter in three weeks time.

Interview is short. The whole process just took me 20 minutes. Civic test is easy if you are prepared for it. What caught me off guard after i was sworn in she immediately ask me " why do you mean by the Oath of allegiance".

i think i said " You swear to be loyal and obey the laws of the united states." She said good answer. :-)

That's great. Congratulations! My wife's interview is a week from tomorrow, also at the Irving, Texas site. We are looking forward to getting it over with!
