Hey everyone! I passed my test on Tuesday but got my oath delayed for a week. The officer I talked to when scheduling my interview said that I can do test and oath the same day so I was excited but in the end I got a paper stating please come back in the week for oath. I think thats because I relocated to a different state after filing the application since IO asked me a lot of questions such as when did you leave the old state, where do you currently work, when did you start there and such. Hopefully they won't tell me to come back another day next tuesday;)

I dont think they think it's an immigration fraud, as like i said before, i had my 10 years GC 2 years ago, and i could have waitted just another year to file based on 5 years residency. They know that if i left my wife the same day i got my 10 years GC, nothing would happen to me '' immigration-wise''. I mean i could still have the 10 years GC and i could still apply for naturalization easily. I barely go to the mosque one time every week, and i know a couple Morocco Muslims that i ve not seen since the end of last year. Although going to the mosque and being with Muslims shouldnt be a red flag, terrorism doesnt have a religion, there are terrorists who are christians or jewish... but that doesnt mean every christian and jew should be a suspect. Whatever the reason was i'm not worried, at least i know that they are working on my file and it's not just sitting somewhere in the office.

It's true that a terrorist can be of any religion. But it's also true that people stereotype others. Just the way black guys are suspected more to be criminals. I think it comes from the tendency of people of that religion or race to do certain things.

I, too, wondered whether to file based on 3 or 5. Because I wanted to vote for Obama so bad, I decided to file based on 3 yrs. Sorry, Republicans. Plus, I travel A LOT and just wanted easy traveling to other countries without the hustle of visa etc. I moved to a different state shortly before ROC.

I took my own photo too and tried to print it looking as natural possible and is slightly lighter than normal.

They should change their procedure for passport photos. Instead of asking us to submit printed photos we should be provided a secured link online after they receive our application where we can upload our photo. This I think at least would lessen possibility of photo defects since it eliminates the extra step of scanning and printing again.

Oh well... but still I am truly elated receiving my passport book! I couldn't sleep at all last night and was just looking and flipping through it again and again.

Hmmm, dunno if that will ever work. Who knows whose pix some pple will submit? I got mine taken at the Post Office where I submitted my application. It actually was lighter and very nice compared to what I submitted for naturalization and was used for my CoN. I didn't do any biometrics for naturalization.

I'm curious what would you do if one of the other 60 random people was extrovert like me?

Would you tell me to shut up and mind my own business if I attempted to start some friendly small-talk conversion with you?

In the waiting room at my oath ceremony everybody seemed happy that somebody (me!) dared to break the ice and talk.

By the end of the hour we were laughing and chatting happily away - the IOs trying to get somebody's attention to procede with their paperwork looked puzzled.

They had probably never seen something like that happen before

What you do is none of my business. I am telling you what I do and that I am an introvert. If you are an extrovert and want to chitchat, am sure that are other extroverts like you. I simply carried my magazine because I don't want to just talk, heck! And there were people like me who were not talking and I guess worse than me cos I had to initiate a conversation to some. Being an introvert doesn't mean I don't talk. I am a university professor so yes, I can talk for 4hours non-stop, but I will not just talk randomly. And in my oath ceremony, 60 out of 60 people were not extroverts. 30% couldn't even speak or understand English, so there weren't even many talkers. And the ceremony started just after like 15mins. And, those who talked missed on the instructions and were they ones who were raising their hands to get stuff repeated to them.

I guess we are all different. I don't just talk to random people, that's just who I am unless am at a conference or some gathering where I have to talk to pple! :whistle:

60 people from 29 countries, waited for about 15 mins only b4 we had to line up to a different room and the whole thing began.

I brought a magazine to read as I hate sitting and staring or doing nothing. But I hadn't read even half a page when the ceremony began. I had my handbag and carried it everywhere in the bldg. It was scanned at the entrance too. But my bag usually has a pen, a nailfile in case my nail broke :-) etc. It wasn't a problem.

My interview of 3/15. 60 people from 29 countries. I think about 30% were from Somalia but hey, this is Columbus, OH! What is interesting is that about 98% of them couldn't speak or write English. Not just speak or write English - they actually appeared like they didn't get an opportunity to go to school in their lives.I just thought perhaps they came here as refugees and what happens to their civics test? I also thought that some day soon, Somali will be a common language in the US like Spanish.

Nway, back to the interview. It was downtown, about 15 mins from my place but I woke up and left really early, didn't want to get caught in the morning traffic. The oldest candidate was 90 yrs old, a Somali lady. The night before the interview, I started to become paranoid - that my alarm will go off and I will turn in off and not even remember - happens occasionally. Or that there will be an accident, and then traffic jam and I will never make it. Or that I will forget my letter, or GC. I mean I thought of all weird things. The letter said to get there at 8am, and no later. I was there at 7.30a. So I just decided to hang outside till 8. But then after 10mins, I saw some pple who looked like naturalization candidates come and go in. So I decided to go in. Alas! there were pple there. I was like, what are all these pple doing and the letter said not to get here before 8, lol.

We were directed to the "cafe". About 8.30, the lady in charge, I think she's the deputy sthing of the court, called only the candidates to another room. First we lined in the hallway and then she called us one by one by the last 3 digits of the alien number. Mine being in the 700's, I was on the behind rows. In court, I was on the last row, bummer!

Checked our stuff, gave us our certs, we checked for accuracy, then turned everything back in including our GCs. Then a break. Then at 9am, back in the room, this time visitors were allowed to sit at the back. We were given voter registration to complete, given flags, stood up and sang God Bless America as we waved our flags, lol, oh, and we watched Obama's welcome before that. Then we lined our way out to the courtroom on the 3rd floor. Ceremony began at 10 promptly. Judge spoke, of course they followed the court protocol - arise and all that stuff- then we all had to stand one by one and say our names, country of birth, and sthing else like "I can't wait to vote". lol. I said I can't wait to travel to some countries w/out a visa. Everyone burst into laughter. I wasn't kidding though. Then we went in line to shake the judge's hand. When I shook the judge's hand he asked me where I wanted to travel to, and I said, Europe! Ha-ha. But that's true.The Somali ladies did not shake the judge's hand cos it's against their culture. The we were given our certs, and voila! We were done by 10.30. Overall, it was very beautiful. The lady who conducted everything said she has done that job for 20+ years, and she actually just has a passion for it. She injected humor wherever and so there were many laughs along the way.

I am happy that I now am a USC! I went to apply for a passport at my usps and who knew that they only do by appt? I had carried everything with me but all I did was make an appt - for late this week. They had weekdays open but they only take applications upto 3.30, so I just scheduled for Fri cos I leave work early on Fri.

Thanks to JBI, I filed everything on my own and got all my answers here! No actually, I started on another forum, I can't even remember the name. Then one of the moderators was soooo mean. He'd demean pple, blast them for incorrect English or spelling errors, you'd think it was an Eng 101 forum, lol etc. So one day we ambushed him and he banned us! The I found JBI and what a blessing in disguise! Been here ever since.

While I was reading OP's story, I was thinking exactly like Brother Heisekel - though I wouldn't have said it myself. You need to be patient. Perhaps the no eye contact meant "get your face out of here and let me do my job". Just saying. Try to be patient... it is hard but you've done all you could - except being patient. So be patient.
