I also told the consulate directly I was intending to do this and they didn't provide me with any special instructions so I don't think it's too big of a deal. Good luck!!! -

http://www.afp.gov.au/business/national_police_checks This link has all the info he'll need -- I sent my information check on Feb 3 and received it in the mail March 10, so it took about 5 weeks (including mailing time). Good luck!
