Hey, Hope all is well. I need to know from people who are already in the US if their SSN arrived as schedule or did you visited the SSN office?
Well, we did go to SS office to applied. If you do not get in 2 weeks it is better to visit them.

All,
I called Islamabad embassy and nice lady told me that PCC is valid for 12 months. What should I do? Should i get new one or not?she originally got her PCC on april 12 2010 and her interview date is July 16, 2010.
My wife was in the same situation and just before her interview PCC was expired. We got new PCC but Islamabad Embassy never asked us to showed that new PCC. So, I guess no need to get new PCC.
One more question I remembered reading FAQ from Islamabd it says "When you receive an Interview Letter, then have a Medical Exam done by one of our approved panel physicians 2 weeks prior to the interview date"
We did Medical 2 weeks before the interview
Any suggestion what should i do for two above issues?

Can someone tell me what is the rule regarding a baby aged 6 months immigrating to US with LPR mother?
I mean, does he need a separate Pakistani passport or would they register him on mom's passport?
If you or one of the parent is US citizen then baby can get US passport from US embassy in Pakistan. Make sure you get NICOP card from NADRA for your baby before travelling to USA on US passport.

Took my licence yesterday (tad later than I was meant to, ahem). Unfortunately you will need to take both the theory and practical. As a licence holder already, you do not need to do the Substance abuse course.
I tried to get final word on exactly what I had to do, with no luck, either no one answered phone, or they directed me to the website. Eventually I just went to the Oasis website and scheduled both the theory and practical, 45 mins apart. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Here is the website:
https://www8.flhsmv.gov/Oasis/web/pages/onlineAppointments.jsp
When you schedule you need to do it twice, one for theory, one for practical.
The total cost is $48 and you'll be in and out pretty quick. The theory has 2 tests, rules and signs, 20 questions each. The practical was an utter, utter joke, it makes a terrible mockery of having you sit the test after having a UK licence. There is a reason why drivers in Florida drive like they do...
My practical, the examiner checked lights and horn. Then we went to a test track out the back. Couple of turns, straight in park, emergency stop, 3 point turn, done, literally 5 mins. When he said I had passed I asked "Is that it?!, We don't even go out on the road?!"
Some key points:
Pay attention to the documents you need, they are real strict about that
Make sure you have proof of your SS number
The eyesight test tests BOTH eyes, if you are short sighted in one ete you will not pass it without glasses (caught me out, had to go home get glasses)
Make sure you have proof of insurance and registration in the car.
Edit, also attached the Fl dirvers handbook to this message, their version of the highway code. It's about 1M in size pdf file.
Thanks for sharing your experience about your FL driver licence.

Riz:
Here's a link to a thread where I made a post on taking the test in Tampa, hopefully be of use to you.
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/249086-florida-driving-license/
As a matter of curiosity, decided which dmv location to use? The one on E Hillsboro is a nightmare to even get into, I went for one a little further away on MLK.
Thanks NotworSte,
We will be going to the one at Livingston Avenue (North Tampa), which is not that bad. My father just got his FL driver license from there.

My wife needs to take a driving test here in Tampa, FL. Anyone can share their experience about the recent driving test?
Like, are they going to ask for parallel parking? or drive in reverse or they just going to ask her to take the car out of the parking lot and drive around a block or so?
Thanks

You don't have to wait for them to send you SS Card. You can go to the Social Security Office and apply for a SS Card. You need to show them your passport.
Good luck
Yes, my wife waited for 4 weeks after POE, for SS but nothing happened. She went to SS office and applied in person. Card came in within 10 days.
She also got her permanent residence card within 2 weeks of POE.

I have sent DS-230 & original doc of my wife from Islamabad to NVC via leopard courier service. TCS, DHL or any other courier service would do the job. As most of the courier services sent packages from Pak to Dubai and then onward to USA.

Hello Guys and girls too.
Congratulations for those who got their visa after long or short AP. Congratulation to those who got their visa without AP. Let me tell u about me, I got the visa in 2006 right after the interview, but i just have to wait 2-3hrs in embassy to get passport. They offer me if i want to go back to karachi so they can send my passport tomorrow, i said no i would wait for couple of hrs, So after 2-3hrs wait i got my passport back with visa. I had CR1 Case.
Now it my parents turn to get visa, my parents went for interview on mid november 2008, i think 11/28/09. interview was combine for my parents, my mother got approval and CO told her that your visa is ready for print if you want but they put my father on AP. they said case is not approved yet and he has to wait for approval, they said document is complete he just have to wait for admin process that could take from min 6 weeks to up. Co said he should wait for a call and then u can submit your passpart to courier, but my mother's visa is ready for print. But my mother said she want to travel with my father so she would like to wait for her husband visa, they said OK and they handed over few papers, purple tokens etc. Now my father is waiting for call from embassy. Let me thell you his age is 62. I called couple of times DOS but they have no answer but except AP. Please share if you have any case like my father, how long it may take? Any comments is appreciated. goodluck guys.....and girls too.

Cuz what I came to know from Fiesal's and hopeful's experience tht after printing the visa they send the passport to US (DOS ?) for one last final review. And this process takes about a month. How can it be one week for us then? I just wonder.
Anyways... Im praying for you all. Inshallah it will be over soon.
I gota get ready for work now. I did not sleep last night. I have no idea how am i gona survive till 4pm.
Bye everyone. And hopefully when I come bck on VJ later today, I can get ur thoughst on this 1 week process thing.
Congratulations!
My wife had no AP and CO told her that she would get the visa in a week time frame and she actually got her visa back just in couple of days.

Either of those ways is not okay. If you are married, you cannot file single. You can file either married jointly or married separately--but either way you are married and not single.
yup John is 100% right.

Good Day
My wife is a USC and when she left usa with her parents she was 10 years old.She applied for me and for our daughters I130 (case is approved).
Now we ve to fill the I864 and she dont ve the residence coz she never went back. Her 2 brohers r living in usa and they r ready to be joined sponsor.
She is required to fill the tax form (2555 or 2555-EZ i think i m right abt the forms). she is a house wife and she dont ve any income. She is 26.5 years old and we r married for the last 6 years. I ve a job and the total annual income of mine is 13000 $ per annum.
So should v file jointly or single?
Thanks N Regards
Either way should be okay as your total annual income is not more than 80K. If you or your wife is earning in Pakistan and total annual income is less than 80K (or 90K, I am not 100% sure) than you are not supposed to pay any taxes on that income. But your wife need to file tax return even if she is not earning any income.

We have a certified translation of our marriage certificate that we had done in Pakistan. Is that acceptable for AOS or do we have to get a certified translation done here in the U.S. ?
Thanks for your response
As long as you had translation done and certified with golden seal on PK RS stamped paper you should be okay. If you do not understand what I mean, please ask your husband who should be able to get it what I said here.

Congrats, thats really good news to find a job in this economy...Good luck in your new career...

I might not be correct but with only 5 months of marriage you will not be getting any alimony after divorce. You might get alimony during the process of divorce till it finalized.
Check this out:

Factors affecting alimony
The examples and perspective in this article may not represent a worldwide view of the subject. Please improve this article and discuss the issue on the talk page. (December 2009)
The determination of alimony varies greatly from country to country and from state to state within the U.S.[3] Some state statutes, including those of Texas, Montana, Kansas, Utah, Kentucky and Maine, give explicit guidelines to judges on the amount and/or duration of alimony. In Texas, for example, alimony is awarded only in cases of marriage of ten years or longer and the payments are limited to three years unless there are special, extenuating circumstances. Furthermore, the amount of spousal support is limited to the lesser of $2,500 per month or 20% of the payee's gross income.[20][21][22] In Delaware, spousal support in usually not awarded in marrigaes of less than 20 years.[23] In Kansas, alimony awards cannot exceed 121 months.[23] In Utah, the duration of alimony cannot exceed the length of the marriage.[23] In Maine, alimony is awarded in marriages of 10 to 20 years and the duration is half the length of the marriage barring extenuating circumstances.[23] Other states, including Massachusetts, California, Nevada and New York have relatively vague statutes which simply list the "factors" a judge should consider when determining alimony (see list of factors below).[24][25][23][23] In these states, the determination of duration and amount of alimony is left to the discretion of the family court judges who must consider case law in each state. In Massachusetts, for example, there are 135 Appellate cases in addition to 47 sections of State Statute that shape divorce law. As a result of these Appellate Cases, for example, Massachusetts Judges cannot order an end date to any alimony award. Most alimony awards in the state are made for life usually regardless of the length of the marriage (for marriages over 10 years).[24][26]

Is this $10,000 limit before declaring also apply to family (husband, wife and 2 kids) or family would get higher limit?

Yes, NADRA dose issue BC. I think they can issue in about 2 weeks or a month time.
Here is the example of affidavit. You need to notarized affidavit with golden seal, which is normal procedure.

I filed I 130 petition for my spouse, I have a question regarding a Birth certificate. Spouse was born in Saudi Arabia, never received anything from there, has been living in Pakistan for last 20 years and Spouse birth was recorded in mother passport at Pakistan consulate in Jeddah Saudi Arabia however Consulate of Pakistan will not issue a birth certificate because of the record is so old. I obtained a letter from union council in PAKISTAN stating that they are unable to issue a birth certificate because of no birth recorded in Pakistan. I have spouse mother old passport with name endorsed back at birth time. Please advise me of what other document should I obtained regarding birth certificate? What Document are acceptable by Islamabad Consulate in leiu of birth certificate? Is there anything I can get from pakistan? Where in pakistan? Need hellllllllppppppppppp!!!!!!
Try to get BC from NADRA on basis of metric certificate. Otherwise you need to get affidavit from two elder person who born before your wife.

I really don't want to have to wait in NY for 12 hrs. If we were to miss our connecting flight due to immigration/customs taking too long, would the airlines make us purchase new tickets or just put us on the next flight?
Airline might put you on next flight if there would be any and seats are available with extra charge. My sister missed her connection at JFK with 2 kids and there were no next flight till next day. She were asked to take all her baggage along with her and come back next morning. Luckily she got flight to near by city airport and managed to got home without stay night at NY.

Its depends on at what time his flight landed. During busy hours I would recommended atleast 2 hours for immigration and custom.
