  1. First, ask your fiancé...your wife-to-be will always give you the best advice about all things in her culture. She will steer you right, for sure.

I'll just say that Filipinos have a much more narrow dress code than Americans. It's simple...first, you should be the best dressed guy there...but that doesn't mean a suit and tie. You will be expected to represent the family well, so my advice would be to wear what we in the US call summer business casual. Collared, short sleeve shirt, Dockers or something other than jeans (though every body else may well be wearing jeans and tee-shirts) and some comfortable shoes other than sneakers or flip-flops.

Shorts and tee-shirts are definitely not a good idea. Filipinos have certain expectations based on relative wealth and status...whether you like it or not, they will expect an American to dress as they envision an American professional to dress...wearing anything less would may not make a good impression. You represent something different there...and you will be held to a higher standard than the guests, even though the family will smile and appear to accept you as you are.

Anyway...ask the wife-to-be first and foremost...but, no matter what she says, keep it on the conservative side.

Always strive to be a pogi mo!

i agree to this advice...my fiance now hubby wear shorts and t-shirts and snickers only but it was cool to see...that's all..CONGRATS to both of you.....GODBLESS YOUR PARTY...

  2. Hi everyone! <img src="http://www.visajourney.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I thought of making a record of the US whereabouts of each VJ member from the Philippines. This will give us a idea which member is living close to the city/state we are in and maybe we would want to meet each other in the future. After I gather the information of all members, I will make a table by city and state for everyone's reference. Are you game? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

    I'm starting with mine:

    City: Mesa

    State: Arizona

    wow,,mgkapitbay tau sis...

    City: TEMPE

State:Az.......pm mo ko sis mee tau next time....

  3. Hello VJ people!I would be so grateful to hear any advice from you

I'm so nervous about my plane ride, it's my first time to travel out of the country. I will be flying to the U.S next week. I'm really getting nervous now. I will be flying with delta alone to meet my fiance.

Can anyone please share some experience when you were going to the U.S. Like your experience at the NAIA airport(I'm from Philippines BTW)and your experience stopping over to japan and your port of entry to the United States. My flight is from Manila to Japan then Japan to Detroit and to Chicago where my fiance is going to pick me up. My fiance ordered me a ticket online and he just gave me a confirmation number for it and told me to just give it when I'm already at the airport. And what about money, how much do you think I'm going to spend for it. and do i have to bring dollars too? Sorry i asked too much

Thanks in advance for the reply, God bless you

    Zah
