  1. Hi everyone,

I've seen a couple mentions of this in the forum but am hoping to get a little case-specific advice.

My fiancee's from Brazil and her mother has a ridiculously long name that I guess has changed over time. She just told me the name she typed on the form (which I now have - she mailed the signed forms) does not match her mother's name on her passport/birth certificate and she wants to use the correct name.

    1) Does this really matter enough that we need to change the name? The currently typed name is her Mother's name, but I guess it doesn't match her former name used on the birth certificate/passport (documents which we are not submitting at this stage). Do they use this info (G-325A) to conduct background checks, or just to keep on record?

    2) Can I make a change like this to the form she signed, or would she have to make the correction? I've seen references to initialing the changes made. Would I change it and put my initials? Seems a bit strange to have my initials on the form she signed. Was thinking I'd white out the old answer or just put a line through it and write in the "correct" name.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

  2. Hello,

Do I need to translate a Brazilian address on my form I-129F?

E.g., should I translate "Rua Sao Paulo 2100" to "Sao Paulo Street 2100?"

"Avenida do Contorno" to "Contorno Avenue?"

The consulate/embassy will use the address to send documents to my fiance, correct? Just don't want to mess this up...

Also, it's normal in Brazil for the street number to be placed after the street name. Should I leave it like that, or switch the order to number first as in the U.S.?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Hi all,

My fiance is currently a student and has been going to school for the past 4 years. During that time, she has had a few different jobs. On the forms, I'm listing the school as one of the employers and the occupation as "student" (I did this with my form too as I only graduated ~3 years ago).

My question is, if we put her down as "student 2005-2009" as well as list the jobs she's held while studying, do we still need to fill in the gaps between those jobs with "unemployed" or will we be okay not doing that since she's been "employed" as a student during that entire time.

    On my form I listed: 1) Job-A (Aug-08 to Present); 2) Job-B (July-06 to July-08); 3) University Student (Sept-02 to June-06)

Also, when listing the employer name and address, is it sufficient to list just the City and the State/Country for the address part?

    Thanks very much.

  5. Is it a requirement to receive this first notice, NOA1, in hard copy through regular mail (i.e., will i have to produce the hard copy at some later date?) or if you receive notice through email is that enough?

I'm wondering because I'm planning on sending in my I-129F this week and then at the end of the month I'm going to be changing addresses. I was thinking I'd put my new address on the forms, but I wasn't sure if I should risk missing the NOA1 in the mail. How long does it normally take for the NOA1 to arrive in the mail?

    Thanks!

  6. Sorry in advance if this isn't something I should be worrying about. I think doing all this research and reading all these posts has just made me a bit nervous...

Anyway, here's my question: My fiance from Brazil has two middle names. They won't fit in the middle name field on the I-29F form if i try to type them both in. Should I just use one name? Should I try to write them both in with a pen? does this really matter?

    Thanks!

Just fit as much as you can in the form. My fiances' name is pretty long but we didnt have any problems.

By "fit as much as you can" I'm assuming you mean just enter one of the middle names and you don't mean that I should enter one of the middle names plus an incomplete second middle name (i.e., cut off the 2nd name)

again...sorry for the stupid questions :)

  8. http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1k2visa-application.html#4.6

Seems like maybe the K1 applicant can visit, but they still need to demonstrate that they aren't staying permanently at that point...if this person is applying from London, I guess it might differ from Brazil

Still need to research this a lot more...I'm going to try and find a good immigration lawyer to discuss this stuff with as well.

  9. I'm facing a similar situation. Can't believe I found this site and this post. God bless the internet

Brazilian girlfriend and I recently got engaged. She's planning to move up here permanently in December/January and wants to take university classes starting in January (university here has indicated that application shouldn't be an issue - she's currently at a University in Brazil with good grades, good work experience, her family's wealthy and I make a bunch of money as well). We haven't figured out the immigration issues yet.

She currently has a valid tourist visa. She has not yet completed the university transfer admissions process and does not yet have a student visa.

If she hasn't yet applied for the student visa, can she apply now for the K1 fiance visa and then while that is processing obtain a student visa and enter the US in December on that, or does an open fiance visa application prohibit her from obtaining a student visa and using that to enter the country?

One post indicates that she could apply for the K1 fiance visa while she is here on the student visa and then would only have to return to Brazil for the interview. Do we have to go that route and wait to file for the K1, or can we apply for it now?

If she were here on a student visa and we got married, would there be any way to just change her visa status or something so that she can stay permanently? Returning to Brazil for an interview is okay, but we're set on her moving here at the end of the year.

Thanks in advance for any advice! Sorry for the wordy post.

    -Dan
