  1. We will be starting the process next month when we return to the states. I downloaded the Thai questions for my wife a while back. She looked it over and then ended up downloading the English and has just been using that instead. There are a couple of apps with sample questions on the IPAD, which she uses quite a bit.

Any particular app that she likes best?

  2. Can anyone that has gone through thailand tell me can i send packet 3 to the embassy from USA and have my fiancee sign forms day off interview and can she submit police cert, and thai post office payment on day of interview, and I am sending all info for packet 3 in or what did u send thanks for the help looking to send asap and yes she does have BNK# also is their a # to get in touch with the visa unit? need help

I've never heard of anyone doing that, I doubt it would work. I would expect that the forms would all have to be signed / complete before they are sent or they wouldn't schedule the interview. She's not able to send them in?

  4. Hello,

My fiancee is a Thai national and she has borrowed money to pay for her education and to help her family. She was talking to friends and was told that the Thai government (Provincial Health Office) will not let her leave the country if she has a debt because of the fear she will not repay it. She works in a hospital for dental health.

Is this true? Does anybody have a similar situation? If yes, are there any avenues other than paying the debt that will allow her to come to the USA?

    C

My wife has a student loan from University... never came up when she left Thailand. Unless the debt was to a government agency, I don't see how they could do anything to stop her.

  5. dont make me google what a farang is! thats no fun.

It's what Thai people call white people. Sort of like "whitey" or "cracker" though not generally with the same derogatory connotation. I find it hard not to see it as derogatory though ;)

  6. So she hasn't been granted AOS yet? You can just withdraw the application and your I-864. I don't think she can stay at all without completing AOS. If she wants to go home anyway, seems like offering a one-way ticket back would be best for everyone.

Hi people, I'm new here. I brought my fiance to USA on a K-1 and we were married almost a year ago. But now....its falling apart day by day. She hates america, hates the unfriendly people, the boring food, the expense, the taxes, the cities, the countryside, and half the time wants to go home. We've had five monster, breaking #### fites, since june. Shes embarrassed about our age difference. Our "pre-nup" has been a constant thorn in her side. (Thank god I did one!) Our once amazing sex life has petered out (pun). A few months ago I payed for her $1000 adjustment of status green card deal and we're still awaiting our interview. Yet I know we'll never see it. She already has her SS card and Employment authorization card, and is working at a club as a bartender and receiving LOTS of attention due to her exotic looks. My question is; When she does leave me for a hot young buck, if we havent had our "what color are the drapes?" "are we really married" status adjustment interview, is she only allowed to stay in USA because we're married? If we divorce before then would she be kicked out? Or not really. If I wanted her to be sent home could I tell INS or whoever about her status/ our divorce? If/when, she does leave I'll probably want to if possible. I'll never do this again. Its too much hassel, no matter how hot she is. Advice?

  7. Pui currently has her social security card. After we marry can we go back to the social security office after her I-94 expires and change her name on her social security card? Or must we do this before her I-94 expires or wait until she gets her green card and EAD? Thanks everybody.

We waited for the green card to go get the name change on the social security card. It took a really long time (like 3 months) before we got the new SS card with name change, not sure why. There doesn't seem to be any particular reason to urgently change name on the SS card after marriage.

  8. Thanks; I know the feeling about being followed by kids as I've been in developing countries since 40 years ago.

My wife, however would enforce the "Thai Style" rule about me losing my cool in any situation

Haha.. didn't really annoy me. I can repeat "nothankyounothankyou" and keep walking without much effort. My wife was telling me to scream at them! She must have missed the day they taught "Thai Style" ;)

  9. We flew from Bangkok. It's fast and convenient, and not too pricey.

The hotel we stayed at (arranged through www.angkorhotels.org) arranged a private, reasonably english-speaking, guide and driver for something like $25/day all-in.

Be prepared to be followed around periodically by children screaming "1dollar1dollar1dollar1dollar" and aggressive and abusive sellers of tourist stuff inside Angkor Wat. Polite and firm "no" did not work, you really have to scream at them to get them to stop. No one really bothered us anywhere else. Most people assumed my wife was cambodian and ignored here which pissed her off (the being mistaken for cambodian part, not the being ignore part).

We're planning on a side trip to Luang Prabang whenever we go to Thailand next.

  10. I don't know about your state but here a friend of my wife, whose English is not great, was allowed to have a translator for the written test. (Her husband speaks Thai well and did it).

The written test and driver's ed course my wife took online had instructional videos along with the text which was helpful if she reads slowly but can understand better. Your state probably has something similar.

Rosetta Stone is really excellent and there is a "learn english" version of it. It all comes down to motivation though.

So my wife has been here for a year and a half and still hasn't been able to negotiate the learner's permit or improve on her reading much, if at all. She got her international driver's license from Thailand (slip em 1000 baht you can get anything there) but that doesn't mean she knows how to drive (she dented my house with the car, pushed in the bumper a bit so driving lessons are over for me).

Does anyone know of any English language CD's or anything? I've directed her to online sites but her internet skills are poor and she's just stuck not improving much (using the same words, although I'll teach her, the next week it's back to square 1 for words). We're both frustrated. Her education level pleads for more schooling and it doesn't appear (I'm learning) she's got the drive to sit down and study anything for more than 20 minutes.

I take her to work watching kids daily but my school starts soon, there's no bus service and I can't get her into driving school without a US learner's permit (although I have her insured with her international DL here, she doesn't know how to drive without nearly killing us or wrecking each trip).

We desperately want her to learn to drive but things aren't coming as fast as others I see here, even at a slow pace!

I can't instill the drive to study or retain information (perhaps learning disabled)? I'm desperate for some English learning programs but can't find any from Thai to English (I learned thai using Pimsleur, which was great but there's no English equivalent and she needs to master spelling and alphabet sounds, sounding out words, etc).

Having a much more difficult time than we anticipated. Everything hinges on her learning to drive since there's no bus service here.

    Any suggestions I'd be grateful!

  11. Hello,

I would like to get an update from some of the people, who had undergone a medical exam for their spouses. Let's cut it short, my concern is the VACCINES. My has her interview scheduled for April 4.

Is it necessary to have all of them done,or are there some of which are not necessary? My wife doesn't have most of the vaccines on the US's Embassy's list.

Could it be a big obstacle on the way to obtaining a Visa?

Are there any way to get those vaccines in a short period of time, without any damage to the health of a person?

    Please, share your experience.

    Regards,

    Rus

I thought you had to have the vaccines done before you sent packet 3 back? We did them at the same time as the medical exam without issue, it shouldn't be a problem to just go get them. I would guess that without the vaccinations she'll be denied out of hand. That's just my speculation though.

  12. I'm back with yet another question.

So it's rather easy to locate a round trip (or even one way) FROM the US to Thailand. I usually go to Expedia or even Travelocity.

I decided to do a little recon for the time when she would have her visa in hand and can accompany me back to the US.

On the above mentioned sites (and others alike) I am having difficulty finding a round trip ticket (for me) and a one way FROM Thailand to the states for my fiancee.

Are there other sites I should be checking here... or when the time comes, should I just pony up the dough for TWO round trip tickets so as to guarantee that we are on the same flight, seated together?

You guys are awesome BTW! Wish I would have found this site BEFORE I filed.

You probably will need to bite the bullet and call the airline you want to book on. They can do stuff like that for you that is hard to do online. Alternatively, book them separately and then just try to pick seats together on the two different reservations. I had to do that once.

  13. Doubt it. Thailand has nothing to do with it. It's secondary. 95 percent of the time when dollar falls against the euro, it falls against the baht. I could show you graphs, but I'm at the bar getting ready to watch A and Ms demise. Go LSU!

Yah.. I'm not saying it's Thailand. Thailand just happens to be getting the benefit of people looking for good short term returns.
