  1. Hello everyone, we are so happy to be apart of such a great group. My name is Alicia and my husbands name is Driss. I guess i never realized what a huge deal immigration was until now im involved in it. My husband and I are at the veeeeeeeeerrry beginning of this process (still filling out the forms lol) and these rules are already breaking our minds lol. I would like to be as prepared for this process as I possibly can be. Is there anything Him and I can be doing in the meantime (after i mail in I-130) to be prepared and have ready to save time? Any suggestions will be soo greatly appreciated :D :D

    Go for the CR-1, The K3 is for the rich and now takes longer according to unofficial figures.

    $ 70.00 - I-864 fee

    $ 400.00 - DS-230 fee

    $ 25.00 - UPS Overnight I-864/DS-230 to NVC

    $ 175.00 - UPS package to Bangalore,India with copies of I-130,DS-3032,and other papers

    $ 100.00 - Medical cost

    Awesome info!! real help thank you.

  3. I am seriously looking into this option, my wife is a USC, we married in the US and I returned back to Austria where I live.

    I would like to know, is it possible for me to file the petition without my wife even setting foot in Austria? She will come visit me in december either way. So the option is there if need.

    Please help.

    Matt

    I'm pretty sure you can only do DCF if the USC have been living in your country for atleast 6 months.

    If this isn't the case you would have to apply for a K3 or a CR1 visa.

    Best of luck!

    what you have stated is only on the us embassy websites, but there have been now some proven cases in SOME countries where a non residing USC and non resident have turned up and been accepted for the petiton. Reason being there is no actual law or rulling on it. Basically a US agent can say yes or no.

    I will personally visit the embassy next week and ask.

  4. Hi all,

    This is not for me but for my friend. Since I came here on a K3 visa, I don't have any idea about how it works for those who have tourist visas getting married with a USC here in the US. She had some questions that I am not sure of the answers.

    Here's her case:

    She came here in the US last April as a tourist, and then this October, she got married to a USC. So, she's only here for 5 months. She's not yet an overstaying, and according to her, they are now starting to fill up forms I-130 for her adjustment of status.

    I'm just wondering if she is doing the right thing, or does she really need to go back home before her visa expires? She sounds like she will just stay here and file for AOS, will that be okay?

    If she can proceed with her adjustment of status without leaving, what are her chances of getting a green card?

    What are the proofs she has to show to the immigration?

    I am not familiar dealing with tourist visa marriages in the US, so any advice is kindly appreciated. At least it can be a help to my friend.

    Thanks in advance.

    go home and apply for a CR1 or DCF

  5. In some countries, the K3 is still a little (2-4 weeks) faster than the CR-1- in many countries, it is not. However, considering how long you wait overall (6-8 months), this really isn't that long, and you trade in the slightly shorter waiting time of being together for alot of hassle, time wasting and money when you get to the USA as you cannot work immediately, have to file AOS etc. So I agree with the majority on this site in saying the K3 is obsolete.

    Sorry which visa did you go for?

  6. Could somebody tell me if I need to collect my police records for the US? I was in the US on a J1 visa for one year. Now I live in Austria.

    Next question. My wife and I dont have a fixed address for me, what should I do? must we find a place first or can she put down her parents address for the application? Last question, Once in the US must I re-apply for a EAD when applying for AOS (green card)

  7. My girlfriend doesnt not earn enough to sponser me to keep me in the US after we marry, I am thinking to get married on a tourist visa and return home then apply for a permanent status. Does anybody know how long this would take until I can legally return?

    I would also like to know how the process would work if I did stay after marriage on a tourist visa and how long would it take until I can work?

    Somebody please help...I can't stand being away from my love!
