  1. UPDATE....Ibrahim called DOS today and they said visa was issued....Whew :). Even though the CO said this yesterday, I'm still on pins and needles where Cairo is concerned. Its not over till I have visa in hand. No movement on DHL.

Aya..any update from DOS on your end....visa issued

  2. Ok...First off, hi everybody...I'm just beginning the visa process & most of my questions have probably been answered 100's of times, but I can't seem to find them...lol So...I'm getting all the papers together for the K1 visa and am good with everything, except...how much proof of the meeting and relationship should i send?? I've read that you can't send too much to Casa, so should I just send the 300+ pages of conversations (edited of course), plus around 60 pics of the 2 weeks i was there, proposal & engagement party?? Also, I am going to return to morocco to be with Hicham the 1st of march with my daughter & we are staying till end of August, or till he gets the visa, which ever comes sooner :) So will that affect things, since I won't techincally have a set income?? I've read that Casa doesn't even ask for theAffidavit of Support...what's everyones opinion on that? Thanks for the help & any pointers u may have for a newbie :) And just an fyi, I'll be mailing the application out asap...still getting some proof together & copies done...but by the 1st at the latest.

    Thanks again,

    Monica

Welcome to VJ.. :) Good Luck with your visa process.

  3. Hey Guys...just got back from Cairo.

Everything went smoothly alhamdullilah....thanks in advance for all the well wishes and dua's.

The process went pretty much like Aya's....you are called to the first window for originals and passport, then pay they fees at window #4, then the DHL fees after that. Next you are called to get your fingerprints done and after about an hour wait, you are called for the final interview.

Since my case was so different from everyone else's here...i was not sure what would be asked of me about my spousal relationship. In fact, there was not any relationship questions at all, no proofs were required. He asked a few curiousity questions about why i didn't get my citizenship when i was in America....and that if i had i would not be in this situation now...which i cheerfully agreed with. so all in all it was more like a conversation for about 5 mins whilst he checked over my documents to make sure everything was in order. At the end, he said all he has to do is print the visa and send it by DHL. I was trying to pin down a date so i can book tickets asap, but he didn't want to be definitive, but said i should get it by the first. so enshallah i will receive it then, i'm still apprehensive, b/c its not in my hands yet. But it went really well and i'm very thankful.

  4. Serena, 2 more days to go!! I have my fingers crossed for you! :)

Thanks Aya...nervous and excited at the same time.....will be leaving tomorrow from Alex on the train...and stay overnight in a hotel. Checked over my papers twice....hopefully no more unpleasant surprises...I'm sick of unpleasant surprises.

I bringing my daughter with me...she's 3. I shouldn't have a problem with them letting her in right. she is a US citizen.

  5. Okay...so I'm coming up for my interview in about 5 days or so....and since my case is not in the normal category for most people on this board (i'm IR-1, but basically a returning resident). Does anyone have any idea what kinds of questions I will asked by CO. Will they just use the basic stock questions regardless of the particulars of this specific case???

  6. Second what Y and Kenza said...personally never had a problem myself, but mostly lived in big cities where they're accustomed to diverse cultures. If u live in a smaller town community, it might be more of a problem, but i still feel over all u will be promoted based on your performance.

My last job before I took time off from work to spend with the family, they were going to pay for my training so that i could take on a higher position within the department, but at that time i couldn't do it b/c of family pressures (2nd son was just diagnose with autism).

  7. Thank you Lisa, Serena, and Kenza! :luv:

Last night John and I have been discussing when I should give short notice that I'm quitting my job (I have to give a month short notice, that's the rule there).. John wanted me to do that today since we agreed I'll quit my job after the visa is issued..spend a month or more with my family and pave the way that I'm leaving..then he comes to Cairo and try meeting them and hopefully have an official engagement before we have to leave (I do pray things don't go dramatic).. But since I did not know yesterday what our case status was, I told him I rather wait till the visa is issued since we need to save every dime as the visa process ate almost all our savings and we still need money for planning for our wedding and John going back to university, etc...

Anyway, he agreed last night that I wait to give that short notice once the visa is issued but seemed sad cause it will make our time apart longer in a way...

Today after we got the good news from DOS, he told me it's better to give the short notice once he sends the papers back to the embassy and I agreed... A few hours later my boss called me and said: "Congratulations, you've been promoted to the Customer Care Manager as well as a Co-supervisor at our new store in your university that you graduated in....!" I was speechless for a few minutes!!! I've only worked at my current job for 6 months, and although I have worked hard and have voluntarily did many tasks that wre not mine, but I never expected that they would promote me that fast and transfer me to one of the places I love most on this earth (my university!)...! Plus, I'm only 21 and just graduated in 2009!! LOL I'm very very happy that I got to hear I did so well at work that he'd trust to promote me to a manager that fast!! I really like my job...I LOVE books and reading... Give me a book and I'm happy LOL.. I got to work between over 16.000 books every day!! It has been one of the best experiences in my entire life!

I really did not want to disappoint my boss and decline his offer for over the phone, so I'm bringing up that I'm quitting the next meeting... I feel sad inside I'm going to let them down.. I tried my best not to get attached to my job since I knew I was leaving sooner or later...but seems it didn't work..and these news came to early or too late...!

That's a bittersweet congratulations  . I know it will be hard leaving them. I love books also. So it looks like you won't be leaving for a few months??? Enshallah, as soon as I receive my visa, I will be on the next plane out of here.:lol:

  8. I took my shahada 16 years ago after studying the religion for about 1 year. I married my husband 1 year after that, so there are no issues of me "converting for him". But even if I did, i would not be ashamed to tell anyone, b/c i consider it a blessing from Allah SWT to become muslim. Alhamdullilah after much arguing with my very christian mother, both my parents also took their shahada about 7 years ago, my brother took his about 2 years ago, and my sister finally took her's 1 month ago.

So I have a great deal to thank Allah for. I wish you the best on your journey. Enshallah.

  9. Hi Aya...I second what HotGuy said. I sent in Package 3, prepaid for packet 4.....same tracking number....it says "scheduled for delivery" whilst its waiting to be returned to you...when the embassy sends packet 4...the tracking number starts with something like "departed facility in Cairo".

I also got my interview date by email and confirmation from DOS about 2 days before the packet 4 was sent...so u might start seeing movement on the tracking number soon.

congrats on the interview date :)
