  1. Wife has a Vietnamese passport and then became a US resident and then a US citizen with a US passport.

Is the Vietnamese passport still good?

    Can it be renewed?

Can you have both valid US and Vietnamese passports, or does getting a US passport void the Vietnam passport?

If the Vietnam passport is still good, does she need a visa to visit Vietnam?

  2. You can assist your mother in law in filling out the B1B2 visa application online, but she should fill it out herself and must electronically sign it herself in Vietnam.  That shouldn't be hard with Facetime, FB Messenger or whatever.  After filling the application, you go to the HCM embassy/consulate website and fill out the visa application online.  Then you pay the fee at the post office.  After that you schedule the visa interview.  On subsequent tourist trips to USA, its easier bc she could do mail-in visa application if she qualifies.

Does not need lots of money or property in Vietnam.  (honestly i think it's the dich vu people trying to size up people to charge them accordingly).

But she does need reason for visiting USA and a reason for going back (like a spouse or children to return to in Vietnam).

Some people think it's better for her to have at least one plane trip outside Vietnam to a place like Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong first before visiting the USA.  I would agree because it puts her "on the grid", instead of just showing up from the mountains or the jungle.

  3. Do yourself a favor and pay the police charges. It's probably for them having to bring police to direct traffic because pole was damaged. You don't want this to go to municipal court, where you can't win. The judge that decides the cases are paid for by the city so they almost never rule against the city. It's like a legal government sponsored racket. Throw in late charges and interest and it's like double pain.

  4. Gotta follow the crowd and pick up the visa at time scheduled with everyone else.

They don't handle deviations well. Find a substitute for the business trip.

  5. Why can't Viet Kieu be happy for themselves living here and let the Vietnamese people be happy for themselves

living over there too. After seeing what's going on in the world like Libya (especially since the war wouldn't have

been over 3 weeks ago if foreign powers didn't get involve to drag it out), I think in a generation,

history and the Vietnamese people will have a positive view of Ho Chi Minh and his fight against colonialism.

Ho Chi Minh fought against the Japanese while others bowed to them, and he also fought against colonialism and

foreign intervention and occupation. The government of Diem wasn't the greatest thing; it even refused to take part

in national elections it had already agreed to because it knew it would lose. Then it ended up rigging its own elections. And the rest is history.

  6. Even if your wife wants to change name, the best time to do that is during the naturalization process, because name change is an explicit part of the process. I don't see any benefit of changing it before then.

About working, there's really no benefit of working before getting the green card, since it only takes a few months to get it. Probably more useful to study English during the free time.

  7. "Le Goi Tien Le" is $1 per $100 to Saigon and Hanoi, $2 to provices and they give your recipient USD on the same day. I've used them several times, they're pretty much the the most popular provider and have locations in several states. The money is delivered by the Dong A Bank in Vietnam:

Do they take mailed checks? And do they deliver to the recipient's home? Have you had any problems with them?

When you send to the same person, do they use the same courier each time?

  8. Use localphone. It allows for recharging through paypal. It has good call history.

Once you set up the numbers, you won't have to dial the long 011..... number anymore.

It is very mobile, you can set the numbers up with landline and cellphone.
