  1. If you are both unsure how things will be with each other in the US the K1 is what you want.

I would suggest that if you are unsure ... dont even bother filing for ANY visa ... you will probably save yourself a whole lot of problems down the road ...

Before you commit yourself to this be very sure this is really what you want ... and then stick it out ...

I agree with those that said forget about filing a K-3 ... waste of time and money ...

    Okay all that said ...

    K-1 VS CR-1

K-1 cost less initially ... and MAY be a little faster ... or maybe not faster ... processing times for K-1 and CR-1 are pretty similar thesedays ... once she arrives in the U.S. and you get married ... K-1 requires a lot more paper and costs a lot more money ...

CR-1 ... you must get married in the Philippines ... and that is not difficult ... but one problem can be the time it takes to get your marriage license ... 10 days ... if you can live with that requirement ... then it is no problem ...

With CR-1 your wife will get her green card automatically in the mail about 2 weeks after she arrives ... and she will also get her Social Security card in the mail automatically about a week after she has her green card ... once she has both of these cards she can work ... not so with a K-1 ... requires filing AOS ($1,010 USD) and a trip to the Social Security office to apply for a Social Security card ... AFTER the AOS is processed ... if you apply for EAD she can work while she waits for the AOS to process ... EAD costs about $340 USD ...

My advice ... get married in the Philippines ... file for CR-1 ...

  2. yes she still is eligible for a phil. passport.

if she has not yet apply for citizenship, it is assumed that she'll stay a legal permanent resident, who has the prerogative to stay an LPR (renew after every 10yrs) or apply for naturalization whenever she wants

all she has to do then is renew her expired passport.

The question was if she bacame a naturalized U.S. citizen could she renew her Philippines passport ...

The answer is NO ... she is no longer a Philippines citizen ... she is a U.S. citizen and as such is not eligible to hold a Philippines passport ...

However ... if or when she reacquires her Philippines citizenship and becomes a dual citizen ... she can then hold a Philippines passport again ...

  3. So my question is, can she just wait till she gets her U.S. Citizenship, then go to Chicago to re-acquire Filipino Citizenship and then at the same time renew her passport?

Yes she can do this ...

However she will not be able to travel outside the country until she has her U.S. passport or until she re-acquires Filipino citizenship and gets her new Philippines passport ...

How about if she didn't want to do dual citizenship? Can she just renew her Philippine passport and not declare that she's naturalized?

    No ...

She is not eligible for a Philippines passport if she is a U.S. citizen and does not re-acquire Philippines citizenship ...

    -- George

  4. No you can not travel outside the U.S. before you get married ...

    K-1 is a single entry visa ...

If you leave before you file adjustment of status you will not be able to re-enter the U.S. ...

After you are married you will file for AOS ... and you must also file for Advance Parole before you can leave and re-enter ...

After you get your green card you can leave and re-enter with no restrictions ...

  6. What an idiot!

I would feel very sorry for any Filipina who had the misfortune to marry this nutcase.

I'd bet the farm this idiot filed a K-1 ...

And as soon as she figured out what a nut case the guy really is she left him high and dry ...

I feel sorry for Filipina who get stuck with guys like this one ...

  7. I responded too quickly ...

After reading further and seeing the interview questions you posted ...

It appears to me the interviewer is not convinced your relationship is genuine ... and based on his suspicion he was not willing to approve your visa ... instead placing you on AR and allowing someone else higher up to decide to approve or denie ...

Just wait and see what comes next ...

  8. Why don't you give us more information on what happen exactly. Why did he call you a lair and what question did he ask you? Be specific.

This is my thought too ...

It seems that she is leaving a large part of the story out ...

What was it that she is being accused of not being truthful about ???

It seems to me ... there is nothing wrong with her documents or none missing ... the interviewer suspects something ... the fact he called her a liar says he believes something is suspect and I would imagine the "review" is to investigate his suspeicion further ...

If the original poster can please provide more information about why you were called a liar ... maybe things will make more sense to the readers here and better advice can be given ...

  9. The biggest difference between PH advice & US advice is that most USC think that once you're married then your foreign spouse can just hop on a plane and come home with you. At least in the PH they understand that the Visa process exists!

    This is the truth!

I have met so many Americans that were quite surprised to learn that my wife did not automatically become a U.S. citizen when we got married ...

A whole lot of people here in the U.S. just dont have any clue to the reality of our Fil/Am lives ...

  10. My wife, Belinda is from Davao City ...

    -- George

    Wow i'm from TAGUM CITY!

Belinda's nanay and tatay have a rice farm just outside Tagum City ...

The rest of her family stay in Davao City ...

I very much like that part of Philippines ...

  11. One option for some people is TFC Now! (online) ...

    https://now.abs-cbn.com/index-tv.aspx

The premium edition is $12.95 per month and gives you access to most of TFCs programing on demand ... you will need DSL or broadband ... as dial-up is just too slow and will not work ...

We have TFC Now! ... and Belinda is very happy with it ... she watches daily ... and never worries about missing a favorite show while she is at work ... because she simply can watch it whenever she has the time ...

  12. Nothing wrong with Vonage really ... it just costs more ... and magicJack has the advantage of being really small ... so it is very portable and can be used at any Internet Cafe ...

If Vonage works for you ... and you are happy with it ... its all good ...

  13. K-1 visa is different than CR-1 visa ...

With K-1 you must first file AOS after arrival and getting married ... takes about 10 months ...

With CR-1 the greencard is mailed out automatically when the visa holder passes through POE ... and should arrive at the visa holders home about 2 weeks later ...

Also you SHOULD have received your Social Security card by now ... it normally arrives 1 to 2 weeks after the greencard ...

The address change may have delayed things ... but I think it would be wise to start actively trying to resolve this ... you have waited long enough ...

    -- George

  14. =Its probably time to make a personal trip your nearby Immigrations office.

    I think I agree with Veermer ...

You should have got your green card about 2 weeks after arrival ...

The address change probably derailed everything ...

    -- George

  15. There is nothing for you to do except enjoy life with your husband ...

Two weeks after you arrive you will get your 2 year greencard in the mail ... within the 90 days before that card expires you will submit I-751 to get your 10 year greencard ...

Your Social Security card will also come in the mail a week to 2 weeks after you get your 2 year greencard ...

Once you have both your 2 year green card and your social security card ... you could apply for a California drivers licence if you plan to drive ... if not then you can apply for a California ID Card ... either of these will serve as your primary ID ...

You will not need to apply for work authorization (EAD) because your greencard authorizes you to work ...
