  1. Hey Everyone,

My fiancee and I have a quick question for you. I am UK beneficiary, we have just received notice that our case has been forwarded to the London embassy.

We are concerned about the first three months when I am ineligible to work. My current job has offered to let me work from the US via remote access for a few months, but still employed and paid from the UK.

Will this interfere with the Visa in anyway??

Thank you all for your help

    Tom and Ashley.

Nope not at all I did the same thing.. When I first started the process I was unemployed but got a job over here a few months after and when it came around to me K1 interview they where fine :)

    Good Luck

    Claire

  2. I just wondered if anyone else has had to apply for one of these from their embassy, when there are problems with the green card. Stupid question, but is this what I take to check in and show at POE?? I would just like more general information about it, as the Embassy where pretty vague about it over the phone, they just said I needed one.

  3. Ugh Friday! I'd show up on their doorstep. Really, Friday is far away... you've been waiting already. Hopefully the email can make things go faster.. did the person you spoke to realize it was only a clerical error on your card?

Yes I sure did and I told them how important it was, this sucks so much... I can't believe this has happened! :( And now to wait so long for a 'Travel Document'...

  4. WOW seems strange you would LOSE privileges as a resident. Not noticing until Sunday was a problem.

Good luck. As for others, check your green cards for mistakes. In this process if ANYone makes a mistake, their fault, your fault, anyones fault...it will be YOUR problem.

Oddly enough I know someone that arrived in the USA without their green card (they had lost it overseas) and even though they were Russian citizen that needed some form of visa to enter, they were allowed to board the flight and allowed to enter the US due to the record that they were a US resident. In your case though I think it is strange. Your green card is "expired". As it would be if you got divorced, for example and went back to the UK to live. Are you telling me former US residents from UK do not enjoy the VWP? Could be, I never heard of it.

At any rate then, yes it seems you need an appointment with the consulate visa service.

Strange as it may seem, this process has been pretty easy for us so far so I just assumed it to be right.. I should of known better then to just assume. I find it strange that they would let me travel on VWP, they just told me 'You can not ma'am'.. Apparently the POE wouldn't let me in, I myself find this hard to believe but hey it happened. They wouldn't let me and our 11 month old fly..

So I spoke to the Embassy again and I am having an interview on Friday for a 'travel document' which will apparently let me enter the country to file an I90 to get my Green Card sorted out. I'm glad I kept my boarding card because apparently I am going to need that to prove I have only been here a few months over Christmas.

I need to bang my head against a brick wall.. This is so ridiculous :bonk:

  5. Um, your British? Get on the next plane to the US. UK has VWP status, anyone can come here with no visa, no green card. Sort it out with USCIS when you get here.

And FWIW you are suffering because you did not fix their mistake before you went overseas and you seem unaware of the VWP.

When I was at the airport on Sunday when they refused me, I was told I can not enter the country under the VWP because I am a USA Resident and I need to get the right papers, POE would of just turned me around and sent me right back after seeing the K1 in my passport and my records show I am a USA resident, just have the wrong stupid dates on my Green Card.. Which I didn't notice until Sunday and the officer at the Airport pointed it out to me. Haven't even had my Green Card a year yet!

  6. So I called the Embassy this morning to get help to get back to the USA as my father in law has died, and my stupid Green Card has the wrong dates on it. I was told by the telephone operator I can not get an appointment until Friday and I should email.. Well I did email only to be told it could take up to 90 days to respond to my email, so how the heck to get this sorted out sooner as I have a funeral to get to and my husband really needs me.. Should I call back or just except the fact I have to wait? So the tears have started again and I have no clue what to do now! All this because the USCIS put the wrong dates on my Green Card that I only received last year. All that money we pay for this process and they mess up and we are the ones left to suffer for their mistakes!

  7. Well I called them this morning and the soonest they can see me is Friday, I was also given an email address to try and speed things a long a bit.. I have to take 3 passport size photos with me and also proof that I haven't been out of america for more then 6 months.

Other then that the kind gentlemen could not tell me much.. So fingers crossed for Friday

  8. I'm cheerleading for you Barron! Everything will be fine, and soon! It's a pain the butt, and not your fault.

Haha thank you, that has cheered me up :) So tomorrow brace yourself for me crying or joining you in the cheer-leading! Lets hope I talk to someone at the embassy who knows what they are doing.. :P

If I could have you guys working at the embassy I would be happy :)

  9. This is incorrect, on multiple points. Not all cards are 10 year cards. LPRs can be out of the country for up to a year without needing special permission. The OP had her GC with her. USCIS messed up, but it'll be all sorted tomorrow.

Again thank you, I am having a very sleepless night, I will be sure to let you all know how it goes.. Lets hope I can get out of here and back to my husband and family by the weekend..

    Thank you again

  10. Trust me, my wife is from the FSU. She was denied a visa to the UK despite being contracted by a UK manufacturer to work for them as an interpreter at an exhibition. UK is one of the countries she really wants to visit now that she is a US citizen. We DID transfer airports there in summer 2010 and she did not need a visa to stay for up tp 24 hours because she had a US green card AND a booked ticket out of the UK. But as strictly a Ukrainian and not a GC holder...no way! She was told "They can hire an interpreter in London"

Wow I have never heard of that, I am from Hull... A town which is a major port to Europe, we have all kinds of different nationalities here, and cultures. I am so sorry to her that, I have always thought we are pretty open because of all the different cultures we are lucky to have. Alas though over the last few days we have been slated in the news for our lack of border controls.

The precious GC, man I am so sick of the trouble I am having with mine.. Trying to get back in to the USA is hard for me right now, thanks to my GC.

I hope she gets to have a full visit here, London is a wonderful place and she will enjoy it.. I do not understand why she was treated so badly.

  11. Even though you have been approved of the green card, you must have the green card present with you anytime you plan to go to USA.Expiry dates are 10 years from the date you recieved it from the visit to USA embassy in London when it got approved and sent out. You always gotta double check your date on your green card. You said the last few months over christmas, meaning you were in England at that time,USA green card holders have a limit of less than 6 months outside USA,otherwise it's the airline fault.

My Green Card is a 2 year green card, and I only received and approved for it February 2011... Never checked the date, I came back here in December so I am well within my limits. It's now just a case of getting out of here because my card has the wrong date on it.

I know in future to double check and triple check everything that I file and do with the immigration process.

  12. They could withdraw the petition go to visit tomorrow and refile when she gets back.

They can meet anywhere. England does not "let anyone in". Try getting a tourist visa if you are from the FSU

Why would you think it was directed to you?

Trust me we do I am from here, have you read our news recently and all the problems we are having with border control.. Getting out is harder then getting in. We need to adopt Americas approach.

But my suggestion was meant as they could meet here, we are multicultural and they might both find it easier.. But again they do need to know each others culture.

  13. You poor thing, My hubby is over in the UK (I'm working on getting my visa to be with him) and his dad passed away in October unexpectedly. I know it comforts your husband to know that you are going to be there soon. Him knowing that you love him and that you're doing everything in your power to be there with him IS a comfort. My condolences to you and the family.

Thank you ever so much, as soon as they sort out my GC I am on the next flight out of here...

Will they not let you come here even though you married to a Brit?? I thought it would be easier? I hope all goes well for you and that your in his arms very soon xx

  14. I don't understand how anyone could get approved for anything when they haven't met in person, me and my Husband visited each other all the time, although at the interview *interrogation* it still didn't feel like enough. They ask for proof of everything. Phone calls, emails, photos TOGETHER etc..

Why can't she come to the USA? Or meet up in England... (We let anyone in)... Plus you could both take a trip to the London American Embassy, the fabulous folks there will give you all the advise you need :)

  15. Condolences for your loved one. These types of issues (mistakes, errors, washing machine destroys papers, etc) are not uncommon. Most US embassies and Consulates do have emergency personnel to handle such issues.

The trick is to find a phone number. Many times your own elected person representing your location has back channel access and would be prudent to contact that person.

I feel for you but try harder and do not give up.

    Good Luck and Many Blessings.

I called the American Embassy yesterday, it was their emergency number.. She just took my details and said someone will get back to me on Tuesday, I was crying so much she asked me 6 times for my phone number, but I will call them at 8am.. I won't give up until I am back home with my husband

  16. Thank you all for your kind words, I just hope it's not me that has messed it up.. But I wasn't even married in January 2010. And with me being turned away at Manchester airport on a Sunday there was no one to call at the Embassy or USCIS.. I guess in a way that is a good thing because I would of only shouted at someone.

My poor husband is devastated, and someone at USCIS owes us a massive apology over this.

  17. Barron: You got your GC around the turn of the year in 2011. Many people, including USCIS workers, write the old year in January because it takes some time to get used to writing the new year. It's just human error.

Go to the embassy ASAP and they will sort you out. You're only losing a couple of days. My friend (the only other person I know who is an immigrant lol) left his GC in the US and he was not allowed to board a plane back. They don't check your documents to return on leaving. He had to go to the embassy and get some travel documents. You need to do the same. Then, in the US, file for I-90 with no fee based on USCIS error. It really sucks, but you're not stuck there forever. Get in touch with the embassy. Maybe they some workers there tomorrow, who knows. Good luck.

Thank you ever so much, I'm just sat here in tears and I feel like a total idiot for not checking dates earlier..

I will call them Tuesday and thank you again :)

  18. I think I am getting myself confused here..

My K1 was granted 29th of June 2010 which is when I got that big pink K1 thing in my passport, I got married July 14 2010 and then in October I asked for I485 Adjustment to permanent resident status.. Have I filled in my time line wrong? And could they be right dating my green card from January 2010 even though I didn't have my interview for it or approval until February 2011??

  19. Yes that is right, as soon as I became a permanent resident I can not enter the USA as a visitor anymore. I am so stupid for not checking the date sooner, but I just expected it to be right :(

I called USCIS as soon as I realized this mistake, they just said I need to fill in a I90 as soon as I get back into the country.. But I don't think they realize how hard that will be, even though I have my 'Welcome to America' letter with the correct date.

Am I correct in thinking the start date on my card should be the same as the approval date?

    Thank you for your help

  20. Please please please help....

So I was approved for my green card February 2011... So it should expire February 2013 right?

    Here is my problem...

I have come back home to England for the last few months over Christmas, and I was planning to leave February 27th. But alas my Father in law has died, so I brought my journey forward to leave the country to day to rush back to my hubby today. Well everything booked, went to the airport to check in and what did I find.. I was refused due to my green card saying it expired in January 25th 2012, well I never looked at the dates on it until now. Looking through my immigration papers I wasn't approved until February 25th 2011, yet my card says 25th of January 2010??? This is a mistake right. I keep my paperwork with me at all times and I spoke to USCIS and they said oh as long as you have your 'Welcome to america' letter with you with the right date you should be allowed to leave England to come back to the USA and I would then have to file a I90 when I get back to the USA.. Well they where wrong, I was refused by check in staff and left at Manchester Airport with my 11 month old in tears.. They have given me no solution I don't know what to do, I need to get back to my husband and help with funeral arrangements and I can't leave the country because of the stupid mistake USCIS have done. With it being Presidents Day tomorrow I can't get through to anyone at USCIS or The London Embassy... Please help please please please... :(:crying:
