The tests (English and Spanish) have just been updated. The links are the same. Just re-load the page to see the new version (it has a 2020 at the bottom of the page vs. the 2009 that was there before). Updated: President, Vice President, Speaker of the House, and Party of the  President. Let me know if I need to change more things.

I am sorry for not having this quiz updated. I will work on it and post a link to an updated version when it is ready. It should have been a quick thing but the server hosting this will not allow me to log in and my account is too old to change the password. Their link is even broken for how to update passwords on accounts that are over 9 years old.  Oh well. So I will have to host it elsewhere. Stay tuned.

I just wanted to add that the quiz is still up-to-date (including question 47 that deals with the current speaker of the house).

It is great to see that this tool is still in use after all these years! As some of you have noticed, the site where the quiz resides has issues from time to time. But user Patrick808 has been kind and uploaded a copy of the quiz to one of his pages. It seems to be working there all the time so I suggest you give it a try. Thank you very much for your kind words!! Yes, the idea of presenting the questions in random order and not repeating any questions came from Broma25 during the initial discussions in this thread.

FYI: The old link (mysite.verizon....) was tied to my old ISP and the link stopped working when I had to change ISP due to a move back in the summer of 2010.

Just a note, the answer to 44 should be John Boehner. It needs updated after the last election.

Yes, you are correct. I noticed that I never updated the online version when the answer to that question changed... However, the file that I had attached to this thread (see above) has the correct answer to this question as I had updated that file before uploading it here. I have now updated the online version too (both English and Spanish versions).

It seems that the host of this test (Atspace) is not up 100% of the time which is why some of you have experienced problems. The host is up most of the time though. Anyway, if it is down when you need it, just download the file in my post above (English version).

Attached to this post is the updated file for the Spanish version of the test (CienPreguntas.html) for those of you who prefer that. Just put the file on your computer and open it with your web browser.

Great to hear Arlington! I think the problem might have been related to the server that I put the pages on. It is free and does not have a 100% up time I suspect.

If anybody has a problem in the future, I have attached the test as an attachment to this post (NewCivicsTest.html). Just save this file to your computer and open it with your browser. If you need the Spanish version, send me a PM and I will send it to you! As a bonus, I updated the test with the name of the current speaker of the house as it just changed.

The new link works fine on Safari on my iPhone so I would expect it to work on Safari on a Mac too.

If the new link fails, please report back with what version you browser (Safari,IE,FireFox etc) is and I will look into it. I think many comments (if not all...) about the site being closed/locked are related to the old link that has been shut down for quite a while now. The new link has been up since the old one closed and the new one has worked just fine since then.

In May 2010 I moved the test from its old location (that site is now locked as you noticed) to this new location. I wish I could edit my original post and update the link in order to avoid this confusion. However, I think only the moderators can modify those old posts at this point. Hi Nigel,

Is there a newer test out now? When I created this page (spring 2009) it reflected the test that was the "new test" at that time. If the test has been updated since, please let me know and I will update the quiz.

There are so many websites that help immigrants study and practice for their citizenship test. The question is which online class most closely represents the real face-to-face, one-on-one interview? Here are a few of them - which one do you think is best for an immigrant with average command of English? You got a good list of sites there already. There are some more sites out there from what I recall, but if you ask me, none fit my bill. My main issues are that they are all too busy or that you have to sign up. When I prepared for my test I created my own test site. It is very simple but it works fine. Feel free to check it out and use it as you wish. I got some good feedback on this forum from users who tried it early on and I changed it according to their suggestions (no duplicate questions etc etc).

There is even a link to a Spanish version on it for users who prefer that. All questions are 100% identical with the official version as I used PDF documents to get the text in html form (no error prone manual typing in other words).

Can you give us an overview on how it was? I used to work in Portsmouth (the John Paul Jones house in Portsmouth) and loved going to Strawberry Banke museums - so beautiful in summer.

The ceremony was actually held at Strawberry Banke! They gave us all, and out guests a free pass into the museum. On the grounds they had put up this huge party tent. In total there were 200 new citizens present. The event was hosted by many leaders, including governor John Lynch and the captain of the Naval base there. We all got to shake hands with them at the end. The governor handed us our certificates. There was also soldiers present who carried the flag during the ceremony. Afterwards there were activities all day, including a parade. Like I said, it was a great day!

I've seen a lot of questions on here regarding the processing time for passports. I know that the time it takes to get the passport (not expidited service) can vary quite a bit. Our soon had to wait for about 5 weeks not too long ago. But I was impressed when I checked my mail box today. In it was my new US passport! The thing is that I handed in the application during my oath ceremony last Saturday (July 4th), which means it took like 5 days only. That is amazing!!! With the invitation to the oath ceremony we all got the form as they said that there will be staff at hand to handle passport applications.

Good luck to you all who are getting ready for your interviews/oaths. Before you know it you will be done with this too.

I agree with Nick that there is no need for clases for you. But I know how you feel. I felt the same way. In my case I decided to create a little help in form of a simple online quiz. I'd say, if you spend some time with it you will soon see that you can go thru all 100 questions with out any problems. If you want to check my quiz tool out you can do so here:

Sure, the house of representatives has 435 voting members, but, for instance, what team won Super Bowl 2009? Also, I think it would be nice to know more about the 44 presidents and when they had their terms. The interview is now completed!! Feels good indeed.

Here is a short summary of how it was.

Got to the location 30 minutes early. Not a soul was there other than me.... huh, this was nice (I don't like crowds). Later a few others showed up but it was a very "cozy" atmosphere. They let me in almost on the minute according to my appointment time. The interview was very relaxed and the officer was really friendly. I started off with writing a sentence that he said. After that he asked me the civics questions. It went fine. Then we went over the form and made sure all entries were correct. It was very quick. The whole thing took about 15 minutes. He then asked if I would be available on July 4th for the oath ceremony... Duh, YES! I said I had in fact hoped for that date. Cool. I later joked with my wife that I should had said: "July 4th, that is so great, the day after Independence Day..."

As I had read here many times, relax, the interview is nothing to worry about. I had a box full of documents with me, but I didn't need to show anything.

Before I left they even gave me a form for a passport application. They said that there will be staff at hand collecting them directly after the ceremony. That is so great! Man, this whole process has been such a treat (I mean it!).

I just called USCIS and my interview is scheduled for July 23rd at 9:45. I haven't received the IL yet,as it was mailed on May 29. I'll post as soon I have it in hand. What a relief!! Yay!!
