Wow, just wow. I had this gut feeling it would be good news but didn't wanna say anything to not jinx stuff. But we got it!

  2. Welcome to VJ.

Its been said that photos are secondary evidence.

That being said passport stamps, boarding passes, e-tickets, ticker receipts, hotel receipts, ATM withdrawals receipts...basically anything to prove you two were in the same state in the same country at the same time is primary evidence.

You should not send it now, it would only get lost. It looks like you will have to wait for an RFE and have it ready in hand when you get it to send out immediately.

  3. Just got an email from them:

Tina, did you guys get a follow up email from them like that? That's pretty neat they followed up with it.

  4. Hi guys,

I'm aware that you get a free name change after marriage by using a certified marriage certificate to adopt your husbands last name as your own and can do so by putting in said new name in the AOS petition.

So Maryrose Olga Allen married to Jack Johnson becomes Maryrose Olga Johnson.

I also know that some people choose to keep their maiden name as their new middle name in the process and adopt their husbands last name.

So Maryrose Olga Allen married to Jack Johnson becomes Maryrose Allen Johnson.

I know that to change your middle name or name usually outside marriage you have to either do it through common law or via a court request.

My question is, does the free name change after marriage include adopting a new middle name that has nothing to do with any of the married couple's names?

For example, my name full name is Firstname1 Firstname2 Middlename Lastname. I want to retain half of Firstname2 which is 'Farah', add in new middle name (that has nothing to do with any of our names) and adopt his last name.

So as in the example name above, it will be Mary Spankingnewmiddlename Johnson.

Is this possible or do I only have the option of dropping all names except half of my firstname2 and adopting his last name? I just want a nice simple THREE name format with a new middle name.

Sick of my name being so damn long it doesn't fit into forms or credit cards or anything. And no, I don't want Olga as my new middle name, just couldn't think of a nice middle name on the spot

    Thanks!

  5. Well we updated our change of address online and within a day finally managed to see our case online after 4 months over of not being able to.

When we called USCIS to confirm the address change the person (not supervisor) refused to co-operate and said you can't confirm a change of address on the phone. Is this for real? Sounds like lots of folks have done it and got by fine. Not sure if this is typical misinformation line bullshit or if you can't confirm your address change on the phone after doing it online.

    Some help!

  6. Just an update. Within a day of changing address online, we can finally see our case status online.

It's weird seeing it all of a sudden. It says:

Application Type: I129F, PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)

Current Status: Case received and pending.

On May 8, 2009, we received this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E), and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our VERMONT SERVICE CENTER location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

You can choose to receive automatic case status updates, which will be sent via email. Please click here to create an account online.

Does not look like we got a 'touch', RFE, or NOA2 yet which we worried about since we were stuck in address limbo for 2 weeks so thats good news?

On another note, Leo called USCIS today to confirm the address change and they told him you can't confirm via phone for an address change. I don't know if he's been had by the misinformation line since he didn't talk to a supervisor. Is this real or just bullshit? Has anyone confirmed an address change online before?

  7. Happy Birthday =)

By the way, Leo and I finally updated our address online with USCIS. The online form was intimidating! Got a address change confirmation number that starts with CAXXXXXXXXXXXVSC.

He's gonna call them today and insist they double check to avoid any problems. We still cant see our case online yet. Did yours become visible immediately after updating your address online or was it some time later?

  8. $1010 is for the AOS filing. You can concurrently file the EAD and AP for free (but extra if filed for separately). I think biometrics is included. We haven't done it yet so...

    It does NOT include:

Medical fees to transcribe your immunizations(just like the visa fee didn't include the fee for panel physician checkup.)

    Postage

Other misc. fees (such as fee for certified copy of marriage cert etc)

Sounds good. I have no idea why you would wanna file EAD and AP separately if you can do it for free with AOS. Although I have been hearing that EAD arrives about 2-3 months after filing and is basically only worthwhile for another 3 months or so until AOS is approved?

I sure hope they don't up the fee next year when our time for AOS rolls around.

  9. Hi, I am from North Carolina. What city are you?

    babyrog

Hi babyrog. Currently in Morganton NC enjoying country living. We'll probably do an elopement in River Mist first and then when we can afford it, a full wedding in Hawaii!!! Unless you can recommend any other nice places to elope in NC. Just don't wanna do it in a courthouse or anything but budget is an issue because of all this stuff.

  10. DHL left a package I had sent to my fiance at a neighbour's house a few doors down whom he had never met till later when he went to go pick it up. In anycase, if that happened, you should have received the 'We missed you' note saying they dropped by.

Can't you call the embassy again to get the tracking number?

  11. Out of curiosity, how much is it for that whole civil surgeon thing?

Is $1010 including the fee for biometrics, medical and all the other misc stuff?

Well I found out later on he can change the names on the lease to include me which is good. He will also be adding me to his insurance plan if that isn't too costly. I heard it goes up quite a bit when you add in a spouse.
