  1. I didn't know you could file online so I did the paper application. Once they receive your application, there is no other difference with the online application. You might save a week or two by doing it online.

I have some friends who filed it online (July 2017). They are still waiting for an interview. Mine was done October 2017 and I am still waiting for an interview.

  2. I was in this situation too.

My GC expired last week and I need to go out of the country next May. I am waiting for my Naturalization interview since my biometrics was 4 months ago.

I've read a ton of forums online on how to get an appointment with InfoPass because this drove me crazy and I was started to get stressed out.

I stayed up until midnight last night. At 11:58PM I was refreshing the page that says "Currently, there are no available appointments. Please check again tomorrow." over and over again.  At midnight, the appointments showed up!!  I was able to pick my day and time no problem.

I checked again this morning at 8am and they were all gone.

My advice: stay up until midnight and be prepared. By be prepared, I mean you have to be on the ""Currently, there are no available appointments. Please check again tomorrow." page and hit refresh as soon as midnight hits.

  3. Alright. To make a long story short. I moved to the US from France back in 2008 and got a 10-year Green Card right away because we had been married for over 2 years when we started the process.

Fast forward to June 2011, after celebrating our 6th anniversary, husband decided being married, having student loans (his) and paying for a mortgage, property tax... and thinking about having children was too much for him. He called it quits. We just started the divorce process. When we did the visa petition, a friend was his sponsor because he was a student at the time. He just started his 1st real job out of college and makes a nice income. Me on the other hand, made the sacrifice to take a huge pay cut when I came here.

Now that we are divorcing, I won't be able to ask for the US citizenship for another 2 years. I need to find the Affidavit of Support and give it to my lawyer to make sure this financial support and protection (if needed) is going to be granted to me until I become a US citizen. Do we get a copy (I need to look into his papers) or do I have to ask a copy to the Immigration?

  4. Yeah I know for the stamp. They ###### up my Green Card so I don't want to have to drive 1,5 hours to get my passport stamped again just because they made a mistake.

It doesn't say your nationality on the Green Card. Just the country where you were born, which I think is ridiculous. I was born in Germany but both my parents are French. They lived there for 4 years for my dad's job.

    Thank you for the links.

I think I'll send it back when I get my driving license. I need a second form of US ID otherwise it will be hard to get things.

  5. I have a question.

I moved to the US as an immigrant on March 8th. I received my Green Card after a month, which seems to be pretty fast. The problem is that it says that I was born in France (I am a French citizen) and I was born in Germany. Is that a big deal? We called USCIS and they said it could take up to 6 months to redo my card and when my visa in my passport expires, I have to drive 1,5 hours to the nearest USCIS office to have it stamped again.

Since living here I realized that this card is extremely useful. People don't really understand the visa in my passport as a form of ID and since i got this card, things have been 100% easier. This is why I am reluctant to send it back to change my country of birth. Would it be a problem later on?

  6. I got a letter from USCIS today saying they received my immigration package from the Port of Entry. It was just their "Welcome letter".

I created an account online to be informed via email of my status.

I got an email today saying the following:

On March 31, 2008, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

What card are they talking about? Is it the Green Card or the SS card (that I already did by myself at the SS office)? FYI, I have an immigrant visa (CR-1).

  7. I think this might be helpful to everyone here.

When I filled out the paperwork to get my CR-1 visa, I checked the box that said assign me a SS# automatically.

Well, after being here for almost 3 weeks, I wondered when I would get this number as I need it to look for a job, take my driving test and open a bank account. So, I went to the Social Security office in my town and it took 10 mins total to do all the paperwork. I just needed my passport with my visa in it. I am going to get my SS# tomorrow and my card in 2 weeks. That was it.

And the guy said they never give SS# without people showing up in person.

  8. Voilà, our journey is over. My IR-1 visa (immigrant visa) was granted yesterday.

My appointment was at 1pm at the US embassy in Paris. We showed up at 12:15 pm and they didn't want to let us in so we came back at 1pm, time of the appointment.

After 10 mins, I had to give my letter of appointment to someone. I was called again and this time, she shecked my documents and asked for my medical. Asked a few questions like "When are you coming to the USA?". I answered I didn't know exactly. I was caught off guard as I can't go to the US if I don't have the visa. She told me I had 6 month to enter the US and to go sit down, the officer would call me for my interview.

By the time I was called, it was 4pm already and she just asked where I was going to live in the US (whate State) and where was my husband and that was it, she said congratulations, you'll get your visa in 7 days, don't open the sealed enveloppe we will give you bla bla bla bla...

It took less than 20 mins for everything. The wait lasted for 3 hours though.

Some tips: it wasn't mentioned anywhere that I had to bring en enveloppe (Fedex, DHL...) so I had to go to the post office and send it to the US embassy.

My husband had to scan the appointment letter he received or I was unable to do my medical on time. I received my appointment letter 1 week exactly before the interview and during that week, you had Christmas day and New Year's day. With doctors on vacation, I would have never had the time to do all this on time.

Good luck to everyone! It was way easier than I thought!

  9. My husband called the NVC and was told my interview was January 3rd 2008! It's so soon! They sent the instruction package 3 days ago.

Once your case is approved, I highly recommend that you call the NVC because with the new system, you might get your interview package less than 1 week before the interview!

Good luck everyone. our journey is not over yet but it's getting close

  10. Be extremely careful: what they mean by "certified copy" is NOT a xerox copy with a stamp. It is an official document signed by a registrar saying it's a certified copy from the original certificate (that is kept by the city hall or whatever government place). They want originals of everything.

Call to the city hall of the place where you were born or where you got married and they should be able to tell you how to get these documents. I know that for France, I could ask for my birth certificate online and it was sent to me within 48 hours and I wrote the the city hall where we got married asking for a copy.

Both documents were printed on official papers with a stamp and the signature of the registrar who took care of it.

  11. If she divorces her husband, she will just prove the visa services that her husband didn't deserve a visa.

I don't think you can divorce over this or that means they had other problems in their relationship that you are not aware of.

She should ask her husband to try the Green card lottery (if he is elligible).

And I have another question: what happened at the embassy? He had an interview, they said he would get the visa within a month and then nothing? She might be hiding the truth there.
