This is 2.5 weeks away there is a LOT to do.
Yep. Now I have a whole new set of worries!
-
It looks like it! Thank goodness! It's almost enough to make me take back all the terrible things I said about them. Almost.

NOV. 9 8AM!!!!!!

On hold......

Have you looked into having her stay at a hostel? They generally have reasonable weekly/monthly rates, without the full cost of an apartment.
Also, I agree with the other posters...this sounds a little odd.

ok well since he sent his packet 3 back after me i'm definitely sending filling out and sending that form back to dale's congressman
Zoom. I missed something. A form? I have a very busy fiance working 1.4 million hours a week. A form would be stellar.
Release form to let your congressperson harass Montreal for you.
Mine's sitting on my desk as we speak...if Spoom doesn't hear something today, I'm faxing it off

Just always tell the truth and bring proof of ties to Canada and you won't have a problem.
The last time I visited, they actually didn't ask me who I was visiting, but if they had, I would've just said fiance. Just bring your paperwork so far as it shows you are going through the legal immigration process and not trying to circumvent any immigration laws.
Have fun!
Spoom always brings a copy of his K-1 paperwork, just in case. We've never needed it though. Usually they just ask us a few questions and we're through - but we're driving across the bridge, not flying.

Thats the funny part about ADD/ADHD.
If you are doing a test, the last thing you want is more time to study/work. ADD/ADHD students want to get in and out of an exam, assignment as quick as possible in most cases. Yes the extra time is welcomed, especially for the parents but for the person with the ADD, it isn't.
If a person is asking for more time because they think they may have ADD/ADHD, then to me that would just scream: FAKER!
Eh, it really depends on how bad I was doing that day at focusing. If I was having trouble pulling it together, I may need longer on a test, especially essay tests. Most schools won't let you have time extensions and other aplicable accomodations unless you have a note from a doctor stating the diagnosis.
Mostly, I just used the "I need a quiet room to test in" accomodation. I got distracted easily by other kids around me during testing.

My mom does the same thing, Peachey...She's trying to get my uncle (who's a retired lawyer) to talk to his "connections" to see if anyone can help us.

I was the one who told my parents I had ADD. I found an article about it in a magazine in our school library in 5th grade and it had one of those "Check the boxes for each statement that's true, if you check more than 6 boxes, you may have ADD" checklists. I had 8 of the 10 things on the list. I took it home and showed my parents who told me I was overreacting, and that there was nothing wrong with me. I was in the "gifted" class and my grades were good (though my teachers complained that I was disorganized and disruptive), so that meant I was okay.
Fast forward 3 years, and my grades are ####### and my parents and I couldn't have a civil conversation. My mom and I got into a screaming match over my grades, and I finally told her (loudly) that I couldn't focus in class, and I couldn't figure out how the hell to get homework done and turned in. They took me to a counselor who told them that I was probably the most textbook case of ADD she'd ever seen. Once I was diagnosed and treated, my grades really improved and so did my social skills. I stopped taking meds in college, and focused on learning adaptive lifeskills that allow me to function (semi)normally in the "Real World"
I've seen misdiagnoses do bad things to people, and I've seen other students (in college) "fake" symptoms to be able to get ritalin to study longer. It's not for everyone, but it does help some people.

I run a Youth Center, and Spoom hangs out there in the afternoons while he's visiting me. The kids keep asking us, "Aren't you married yet?" When he goes back, the kids ask where he is pretty much every day, and they want to know when he's coming back and when he's moving, etc. Sometimes I think they miss him as much as I do!
-
Why is this question asked every week?
I suppose there's a lot of misinformation out there. Hell, a lot of people still believe that if you marry an American, you automatically become an American citizen. Too bad it's not that easy, huh?
I'd like to stab whoever keeps perpetrating that myth.
Seconded. We get that one a lot.
-
The ones that piss me off are "You must have done something wrong." and "Well if you would have hired a lawyer...".
My parents don't believe that the government actually takes this long, and keep mentioning that Spoom or I must've filled something out incorrectly - or that we're overreacting when we say we don't know when we'll have an interview. My mom says things like "Oh, I knew you should've gotten a lawyer from the start of this. You'd probably be done by now." It's the most frustrating thing in the world to not have someone who's *seen* the amount of paperwork and grief that goes into the process understand that we have absolutely no control over how quickly (or NOT) it gets done.
*ahem* /end rant.

*crosses fingers for Varba and Peachey*

The only possible thing I can think of that's not just flat-out malevolent is that you got a new (and reeeaaally poorly trained) employee at the DoS callcenter. Even then.....dang. I'd be so mad if I were you two right now (heck, I'm mad FOR you!).

Ack, sorry to hear that guys! ####### Montreal?!

Halloween!
in Canada
Spoom and I went to a Canadian halloween party last year as John McCain and Sarah Palin - we won scariest costume
Don't know what I'll be this year yet, though.
While I'll miss his friends' halloween party this year, I'll be passing out candy during our local trick-or-treat (I run the local youth center). We open our building to families who want to take a break, use the bathroom, or warm up. The kids can get a snack, color, play air hockey, foosball, pool, etc. It's good publicity for us, and helpful to the parents. The older kids (middle and high school) are having a halloween party with a costume contest and a few games, a DJ, pizza, etc. the day before halloween. Have I mentioned I have the best job ever?

What a terrible experience
A few years ago, I was driving back from Cleveland to Columbus (Ohio) with a carfull of friends who were all asleep. We drove up on the scene of a wreck that had just happened- no EMTs there yet. I'm CPR/First Aid certified, so I pulled over to see if there was anything I could do to help til real help arrived. I got about halfway to the flipped SUV and a guy yelled that he'd called 911, and that there was nothing I could do. The people in the SUV had been travelling at 70+mph without seatbelts, and the result was not pretty. My stomach churns when I think about it, still. Ughhh. I've seen a few deaths in wrecks, but never anything else like that.

I'm going to visit Spoom's family for my first Thanksgiving with them. I was supposed to go last year, but it was less than a week after I started my new job, and my board of directors wasn't thrilled with the idea. This year, there's no school on that date, so I can close the youth center with no issues
It will also be his first Thanksgiving here with my family (I think his finals/midterms were last year during our Thanksgiving). Fortunately, I live in the apartment above my Grandparents' (who host Thanksgiving every year)....I get the feeling Spoom will be doing a lot of "helping" in the kitchen.
Both of us are eager for any reason to eat turkey another time during the year.

In a moment of frustration, I typed "Why is the montreal consulate so slow?" into google. It directed me to this thread.
-
Congrats! Sucks that it's so far away, but at least you have plenty of time to prepare!!
-
Spoom called the DoS this morning, still no interview. Boooo for another lost round in the waiting game!
-
we got our NOA1! (I suppose I should probably wait until Spoom wakes up and tell him first....but I'm just too darn excited!)
Now the fun of *real* waiting!
-
Hi folks,
We just sent in our I-129F package on Saturday (the 21st). I'm really hoping they don't get slowed down too much because the plan is to have the wedding on January 23, 2010
Does the rest of the waiting go this slow? They haven't even cashed my check yet! (Yes, I know, it's only Wednesday....)

The interview is technically Spoom's
But yep, the 9th! I'm so excited!!
