My wife and I went through the K1 visa process in Lima, Peru and it was a good experience. The best information I can give you is follow the templates and bring a lot of photos and affidavits suggested to be given at your interview.
I found that the last experience in Lima was with my wife's visa expired and her extension letter was lost. We met a gentleman who had been to the US Embassy 3 times to try to get his daughter to be a US citizen and this time he finally had everything to make it happen that time. Make a list of all the documents you need and double check your documents before going to the Embassy to make sure you have everything.
My wife and I met online and this was not a problem.

My wife received her travel document Tuesday and was able to fly home Wed.
On Tuesday we also received her approval letter from the USCIS for her 10 year green card. So she is home now and everything is great. Thanks all for the help.
Thanks,
Chad

Okay, we went to the Embassy this morning and filled out the documentation and gave them as much information as we could and they will have travel document for her in about 1 week.
While at the Embassy we met a very nice American-Peruvian man working on getting his daughter immigration papers for America and told him about Visajourney.com. It was his third trip to Lima to accomplish this as he was missing just pieces of information. Thank God this time he was able to have all the documentation and everything he needed to accomplish this on this trip. If he would have known about this website sooner he may have been able to accomplish this in 1 trip. This website really is wonderful for providing good knowledgable information.
Also when we were in Tarapoto visiting my wifes family we stopped at the university where my wifes brother teaches english and told them about America the culture. How important it is to practice speaking the langauge as often as they can and Visajourney.com as many of the students are interested in attending higher education in America. It was an amazing experience to talk to students who were very interested in many different aspects of life in the US including what they see in the movies, what the rest of the world thought about the Peruvian people in respect to the drug cartels and violence they hear about on television. I assured them that when I met my wife it was the most amazing experience of my life and for the last 2 1/2 years are the best years of my life. I did not think for a minute about what could happen as my wife watched out for me and made sure we were not travelling in bad neighborhoods and so on. I can not give enough thanks to the people I have met in Peru through my wife and her family. We are staying with an amazing family here in Lima to conserve the money we have left after our vacation that is truely amazing. I guess my point is that when I think of the people of Peru it is only the best thoughts. I am sure others know what I am talking about. I just cant give enough thanks.
Wow, what a trip. Gotta love vacations even when things go bad, people really come through and all of you really did help us more than you know.
Thanks again,
Chad

ROC is when you file to remove conditions and go from a 2 year green card to a 10 year. When you file you get a receipt that extends the GC for a year. The original of that letter is necessary to travel. If she did biometrics she presumably a) got the NOA or b) it got lost in the mail and she never received it. Either way, she was not supposed to leave the country without the original in hand. The Embassy should be able to help you procure temporary travel documents but I agree with the previous poster that if you have someone in the states that can look through your documents that would be good.
Thank you all so much for the help! before leaving home we went through all of our visa documents and grabbed everything we had including the initial K1 documents. We do not know where this is but I am so happy to hear that the Embassy will help us correct this issue. Yes we did receive this document and did the biometrics. We are going to try and go to the Embassy tomorrow and resolve this issue but if not we have an appointment for Tuesday morning. It has been a very stressful day for the both of us. It definately brings people closer together and strengthens the love for each other when you are going through these rough patches.

Is the removal of conditions the same thing as a 10 year visa or is this something completely different? I am just trying to figure out what we may have missed in the process. I do remember getting the 1 year extension letter after we sent in my wife´s paperwork for removal of conditions. Right now we are unable to locate this document and my wife say´s she grabbed all of the documents from the USCIS. So I am really confused as to what the next step is, or what the people at the Embassy here in Lima will tell me. Maybe we missed something but she has not been denied for removal of condition.
Thanks,
Chad

Removal of Conditions, is this what you said you'll filed for in 12/2011?
My mind is spinning in circles right now because I am so worried. Nothing will be resolved today no matter how much I bang my head against the wall. When we go to the Embassy Tuesday I will find out more. Thank you all for your help. I am guessing that the Embassy employees are my advocates and will help me get this issue resolved so we can travel back to the US together.
Thanks,
Chad

When traveling on an expired GC you need to have the original NOA1 letter that extends the GC for a year to pass through immigration.
What is the RoC?
Yes I thought my wife had this letter but I am unable to locate it in the documents she brought with us.
-
WELL that is your extended GC, YOU NEED this letter. The only other option is GO to the embassy for a stamp in the passport.
Well I will be at the appointment on Tuesday morning at the Embassy.
Thanks everyone for your help,
Chad

Confused, she arrived in Nov 2009 on a K-1, I assume you married and received the conditional green card which would be good until sometime in 2011 or 2012? The I-797 is the receipt for filing something, what was it you filed? and why have you waited more than a year to follow up on it or maybe your dates are incorrect? Perhaps you mean you filed to remove conditions in Nov and have not been approved yet? The NOA-1 should be stamped at the bottom that the green card is automatically extended for one year. Do you have a copy of this with you? Did they refuse to accept it?
She actually arrived in Sept. 09 and your are correct we married and she recieved the conditional green card. Yes they refused to accept the Petition to remove condition I751 we filed

Hello,
my wife and I filed an I797 in November 2010 and did the biometrics appointment. The application is in process with no other notification after the biometrics appointment. Then I checked on visajourney to see if we needed anything else prior to travelling and did not see anything. Now we are in Peru and my wife is not allowed to leave with an expired green card and they told us at the airport we need to go to the Embassy and get an emergecy travel document from them. Please help as we are in over our heads. I made an appointment at the Embassy here in Lima but am not sure what we missed.
Thanks,
Chad

My wife's biometric appointment is later this month. Would you recommend both of us going to this appointment is it okay if she goes to this by herself?
Thanks,
Chad
-
Thank you so much for the fast reply
that is awesome!

Today we received another Notice of Action.
Transfer Notice, The case has been transferred to the California Service Center.
The question I have is do we keep the Biometrics appointment that has been set up all ready?
Thanks,
Chad

It is really unreal that this is so close even though it has taken this much time. It was so worth the time and effort. I was very worried a couple of times during the process but looking back on it now really seems so wonderful. Monica gets a little home sick with her parents and family once in a while but that is to be expected and all I can do is try and comfort her. I personally couldn't be happier that everything was this smooth. I am hoping in 2 years when we have to reapply for the adjustment of status it goes this smoothly also.
Thanks,
Chad

wonderful, Thank you all for the responses.

We have sent in all the paperwork and payments for the Adjustment Of Status, Work Permit, and Travel Document along with all the other documents that needed to be filled out again. We have the biometrics meeting on Feb. 2nd and it asks us to bring all of the previous approvals we received and Monica's passport for identification. Do we need to know anything else before going? Sorry just a little nervous as this is the first time doing this and do not know what to expect.
Thanks,
Chad

So we were suppose to file the AOS forms in my wifes maiden name? I filed them with her new last name. Sorry to jump in on your thread I am just trying to understand.
Thanks,
Chad

Thanks all for the response. We applied for the adjustment of status on the 23rd so hopefully we will hear back from that in the near future and then go for the change of name on the social security card.
Thanks,
Chad

Is the problem with the order on this webpage #19 http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1flow or is it lack of knowledge at the SS office?
-
Does that mean she has already received her SSN before and your intention was only to change the name on her SS card? Or you are trying to say that you are still applying for her SSN... which is it exactly between the two?
FAE
We were only trying to change the name on the social security card. I explained to the lady at the counter that even with the new social security card my wife would not be able to work until after her adjustment of status was approved and that we only wanted to put her new last name on the card as we are filing all of the adjustment of status paperwork in her new name. This can be very frustrating as they did not state what they were missing so I will call them on Monday to see what they need...
-
After my wife and I got married we went to the local social security office to change her name. The lady behind the counter said the computers were down and she made copies of all the information and submit it later that day (around Dec.1st). The following day we received confirmation that she did this but today we received a letter from the social security office stating the following -
We cannot give you a Social Security card at this time because:
The Department of Homeland Security is unable to verify the immigration document you submitted as evidence of your lawful alien status. you should contact that agency to clarify your current immigration status.
You will need to contact the USCIS office in Milwaukee to update your name. There address is 310 Eask Knapp St. Milwaukee WI 53202. You must have an appointment with them to update your information.
Please contact us when:
You can give us the document(s) we need.
They did not offer us a telephone number to make an appointment at this office. This office we very difficult the first time we tried to get my wife a social security card.
Please any help will be appriciated.
Thanks,
Chad

I am getting ready to send in the following information, I-485, G325A, I-693,I-864, I-765, I-131 and was wondering if the total fees are $1010?
My wife is here on a fiance visa and we are now applying for adjustment of status and I wanted to make sure the amount is correct. I know many people have been through this and should be able to correct me if I am wrong with the amount to file. I know I read about fingerprinting fees but was not sure if this was included separate or just needed at a later time when the interview was taking place.
Thanks,
Chad

I believe we had 3 certified letters from friends of ours write about our marriage and then take them to the local notary, then we went and picked them up. Visa Journey has a link on how to put packets together to help us out and I followed them as much as I could. My wife and I went through the K1 visa process and my wife now has her 10 year green card. This website and the information it provides is priceless for those of us going through this process.
