Hello!

I am considering petitioning for my father,my stepmother, and my half-brother. They got married when I was 5 so I think I can file for them simultaneously.Is that correct?

My brother is almost 18 so how would I go about applying for him? Do I need a separate application? How long would it take to process it, the same time as for my dad and step-mom or longer?

I'm still waiting for my oath to be scheduled . It's been over 3 months since I had my interview and over a month since they put me in the oath scheduling que I called 1-800 number to request a service request , they told me to call in two weeks . Very frustrating :(

Wow, that's a long time! I'm sure you will get it soon. Also, at least you know for sure you got approved, so now it's just a matter of when you will be done, not IF you will be done Good luck!

Hello,

what did they ask you "several questions relating to marriage"? Please share with me .

Thank you very much Inna.

He asked : What is your husbands full name? What is your date of marriage? Is it just the two of you living at the this address? Then randomly closer to the end asked: so how did you two meet? and finally "Did your husband come here with you today?" I said "Yes, he is in the waiting area", he said "Must be nice." I wanted to say "Duh" He also asked other questions about me, but these were the only ones that had to do with my husband.

how did it go?

Thanks for asking! The interview was not bad. H e only asked me for my green card and my state id, no other docs. Did ask me several questions relating to marriage in some way. The total time was probably 20-25 mins. My case got "recommended for approval", so he said someone will review it and if they agree with his decision, then I will get scheduled for an oath ceremony. Hopefully, the wait won't be that long...

Inna, I'm sure all you need is you international (загранпаспорт) passport.

I received my interview letter today! yay! One thing I wanted to ask your advice about, though:

In the instructions, it states:

"You must bring All passports and travel documents (including expired and current) issued to you by any government."

The thing is, Russian citizens have 2 passports: internal and international. Internal passport is used as the main identification type in Russia (kinda like a driver license here) but it has nothing to do with traveling outside the country. The problem is: I don't have my internal passports with me in the US, they are back home with my parents. Also, you cannot send internal passports through the mail from Russia.

I understand I need to bring my current and expired international passport and any other travel-related documents (I-94, F-1 visa, etc)

However, I do not understand if they expect me to bring my internal passport as well? And since I can't bring it, will that be a problem?

Hi everyone! So my status changed about a week ago to "Initial Interview and Testing":

On October 18, 2012, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was scheduled for interview. You will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview. If you have not received the notice within 30 days of the date the notice is mailed, please call customer service at 1-800-375-5283 for further assistance. If you move, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address.

From what I understand. they should have sent me the interview notice on October 18? However, I have not received the notice even though it has been 6 days since Oct 18. If it was sent, it couldn't have taken this long to get from Missouri to Arizona, max should be 5 days. Does anyone have the same problem where they got this status update but have not received the interview notice?

I took the photos today at Costco and in them I smile with my top teeth showing. After I ordered the photos, I realized that smiling might cause a problem with USCIS. It does not say anything in the instructions about the facial expression requirement, but maybe they think it's common sense to not smile in those photos. I really don't want to retake and pay for the photos Do you guys think it's ok to send these in, or will they be unacceptable to USCIS?

Am I skipping something in the instructions for n-400? Where does it say you need to send any other evidence of marriage except the marriage certificate and the IRS tax return transcripts for the last 3 years?

I will be sending my stuff late August, like August 20 or so. Btw, I requested account transcripts for 3 year from IRS, I read on the forum that it does not make a difference for USCIS whether you send return or account transcripts, is that true? Also, if Im sending those account transcript, I understand I don't need to send any other marriage evidence except the marriage certificate? I'm asking because some people still send their lease, mortgage, bank statements, children's birth certificates. However, in the instructions it says either that or the IRS transcripts:

4. Documents referring to you and your spouse:

a. Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children; or

b. Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past 3 years; or

c. An IRS tax return transcript for the last 3 years.

I think I got approved! I checked my case status (which I've been doing every week hoping that the system will eventually find it) right now, and to my surprise it said "On November 21, 2011, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283." wow, and I was getting ready for a long wait!

My husband's grandmother has been wanting to take us on a cruise since last fall. She was thinking of doing it last winter but it didn't work out. Now she found great deals for February 5th through the 12th and she only has till Monday to get the guaranteed reduced prices for the tickets. When she first mentioned it 2 months ago, I thought that ROC only took 3-4 anyway, so I told her we would go on a cruise no problem since by that time we should probably be done with ROC. But earlier this week I started to have doubts that we could get scheduled for an interview (even though it seems to be pretty rare) during our cruise time. I started looking into the subject trying to find if I could reschedule a ROC interview, but from what I read it looks like only in health-related situations can you reschedule an interview nowadays. I know the odds are slim for us to get an interview during those 6 business days when we are away, considering that only 1 out 15 or 20 people seem to get interviews and even if we were to have one, what are the chances of it falling on those days? I filed on September 9th, so the middle of the cruise will match exactly the 5-month mark after I filed.

Do you think we should take our chances and go on a cruise or should we wait till next year? I really don't want to wait till next year:(( What would you do?

Hi everyone. I have my biometrics appointment tomorrow, and today I thought of one of the questions they ask you on the form "Your hair color". Last time I remember I couldn't decide whether to put "black" or "brown" (I've always considered by hair black but at the ASC everyone was telling me brown), and I don't remember which one I picked. So this time I want to pick black because that's what I have on my State ID. But what if last time I had my biometrics I put "Brown",and if I select "Black" this time, it will create a discrepancy. Do you think that problem could delay my biometrics process and application process?

Hi. So like Inky and Freyja I received a biometrics appointment for 10/5 with a different case number than the NOA. I tried entering both numbers on USCIS website but neither works Should I call them about it? I assume the bar code on the ASC letter is the same as the case number on the top of the letter (which is not found in the database), so if they scan the bar code when sending my biometrics info, how is it going to get delivered to USCIS if the case number does not exist in the system?

Is your card expiring on December 22nd? Then you can file starting on September 21st, since you can file within a 90-day window of the card expiration date and there is 30 days in September and November and 31 in October. Good luck!
