  1. Just a heads' up: Tallahassee sucks in sending out the cards, and basically wait to ship it out (it seems) until the week your temp is set to expire. I was told by the DMV that they could not do anything for me until the temp expired. Then, they could put in a request to see why it's been delayed. However, you can actually do that call yourself, ahead of it expiring, to see what's what.

    The system is quite backwards.

Good idea. I asked the DMV agent when they gave me my temporary what would happen if the paper license expired before I received the card in the mail. He told me to return to the DMV and that they would issue me a card there on the spot if that was the case. But Sam, after hearing what happened to you, I have a feeling that when I go back they'll tell me what they told you! I have no faith in this stuff anymore.

Kayla --- I can't believe the lady was so rude to you and your hubby!!!

  2. Wow, they lost the I-864?! It boggles my mind how you can send them $1010 to work on your stuff and they can be so disorganized.

I would love a discount due to their errors!

I've been trying to get my car title stuff figured out. They put miles instead of kilometres on my Florida title, even though I was very clear that it was kilometres. I went to the tag agency again today, and they said I have to go back to the DMV inspector, have another form filled out, then I can go back to the tag agency. Seriously people?!

    My running tally...

    Social Security: 5 times

DMV: 5 times... plus another appointment coming up as my temporary license is about to expire and no card in the mail yet

Tag Agency: 3 times, plus one more to go to get my title fixed

    Hmf.

  3. Hey there fellow Canucks!

Just checking in... Ashenflowers, I'm glad to hear that your RFE reply is now back in their hands. They approved my AOS just days after they received my second medical so let's hope it's the same for you! It still upsets me when I think about having to spend more time and money for THEIR mistake.

I'm just sending some big hugs out to all of you waiting. I think that this whole process is a true test of patience...

  4. Peachey - Congrats on the GC!!! Arya - Congrats on the DL!!!

I have good news too! I received an email that they sent my approval notice today! Funny thing is, I received the Welcome Letter today in the mail. They received my RFE on July 13th and the Welcome Letter was dated July 15th! I am guessing that I will receive another email when the card production is ordered. Hopefully it will get here soon because I want to go away in August.

Ashenflowers - let's hope that when you send in the RFE that they will approve you within days! :)

  5. We got a dog to keep me company. Turns out the organization we rescued our little Yorkie from needed more foster homes, so now I'm a foster mom to a very, very shy toy poodle. I think he comes from a pretty rough past but I definitely have some time to help him.

  6. I successfully got a Florida driver's license today! I was holding my breath the whole time at the wicket. I was just waiting for the man to tell me something wasn't working out...

Now I have the joy of registering my car.... hundreds of dollars later....fun!

  7. When the guy called me the second time he told me that I'm in the system now! He said you can go back to SS office and reapply and it should work. So I go there, biking, and (this was my fault) she says I need the original of my marriage certificate, not just the copy! OMG! OK, so I bike back home, bike back there again and she says your card is not verifying still! headbonk.gif So they get the manager and he says he talked to that guy who called him this morning but he didn't tell him that it was verifying! So someone is not telling the truth! Anyway, they sent the secondary electronic verification, and I sooooo hope it will come in next week. So I biked there twice in 30 degree weather for nothing! At least I got some exercise!

Ugh... I think I would have had absolutely lost it if I was in your shoes. Yikes... why does it have to be so hard to get things working for you?!

  8. SS office called today after I emailed them last night and apparently after they submitted my application in june with EAD, the guy wrote the wrong status, instead of K1 he wrote J1. No wonder it's been a month and nothing's been done. I'm getting another phone call from him today so hopefully now it won't take too long

Wow. It's amazing how one letter can put your life on hold!!! Hope that this nightmare is almost over for you.

  9. Also, can I selfishly say I'm glad this happened to you cause now I don't have to be the only one going through THEM messing up our files while watching everyone else breeze through in approvals. Thanks for taking one for the team!

Hahaha... "taking one for the team." There is definitely some comfort in knowing you're not alone. *hugs* At least we get to do this part with our husbands right by our side. I wrote a very detailed cover letter with my RFE stuff. I was sure to also include a copy of my Medisys receipt to prove that the error was not on my part.... Good times....

  10. Okay, so after recieving the EAD in the mail and touches on AOS on 7-2, 7-5, 7-6, and Saturday 7-10( I dind't know they worked weekends) my hopes were dashed that an approval was on the way when I recieved e-mail notification today of a RFE. Hopefully it is something simple, but really wasn't expecting to get one after the transfer to the CSC.

Here's hoping it is something simple!!! I received an email about my RFE on July 1st and it came in the mail on July 8th.

ARYA - Congrats! Hope your issues with SSN will be over soon now that you have your GC!

  11. oh man... I haven't been on VJ in a couple days, and wow. cdn_gewels, I can NOT believe what is happening with the medicals for us. What a HORRIBLE (and unacceptable as far as I'm concerned) thing for them to LOSE something like this.

What did the Dr in Montreal say as an explanation as to why they couldn't send you a copy of the medical? I'm glad you were able to find a place that will do one for you. I can't get mine done until July 29th. :( I can't remember if I explained that here or not... but anyways, it's the best I could do... I'm a little stressed, because I only have until August 12 to deal with this, so that's cutting it close. They said it only takes about 2 days to get the results though, so that's good. I'm crossing my fingers for us.

Sorry for the late reply back Ashen, I must have missed this last time I looked!

I explained the situation to Medisys in Montreal, and without any hesitation, the representative basically replied, "No, we can't do that." I didn't really ask why, especially because I figured that would be their answer anyway.

Thinking back to my POE, I did have a newbie officer, so I wonder if my medical fell through the cracks because of that. I guess I'll never know.

When you do get the results, if you can, send your reply "Express." It'll be there by 3 pm the next day. It cost $18 for me. My RFE got there yesterday and I received an e-mail today stating that they received my reply and my case is back to "processing." I think you'll be just fine with your timeline.

    *hugs*

  12. Hey guys,

I know that there was some discussion back in May regarding AP validity once the Greencard was approved. My hubby and I want to take off on a cruise to the Bahamas in 3-4 weeks. My sister will be in town, it'll be my birthday, and we live in Florida so we just have to drive to a port. I won't be working just yet, so I won't need to worry about getting "time off."

I really want to get your take on the whole situation. I am being processed at the CSC, so I am hoping there will be no interview. Without an interview, does the AP become void once you get the welcome letter? I am signed up for e-mail notifications, but does that really count? We're willing to wait last minute to book something so we can evaluate our situation. Hubby needs to get his new passport in the mail too and that should be here in the next 2-3 weeks.

I would just really hate to send my RFE stuff back this week only to learn that the GC gets approved just before we are set to leave. MY RFE stuff must be sent back by August 11th, so I do have a window of time there. I am debating not rushing the RFE back to give myself more time... I haven't been able to find a ballpark figure of how long it usually takes for approval after an RFE is sent back. (A recent figure anyway.) A cruise we're looking at leaves on August 6th.

Feel free to share your comments or suggestions. Talking it over with hubby and my parents helps a bit, but getting feedback from others in the same immigration limbo is always helpful.

  13. I know! I hope it's very easy to do it next week. If they're giving me troubles, I'll go to Livonia one. Thanks :D

I received a letter in the mail from Social Security today. It basically stated that I should have my card in 2 weeks. It's the same letter that I received the first time I applied for my SSN. I guess they just took a day to verify the name discrepancy in the system. Arya... I don't quite understand why it's taking them so long to do that for you!

  14. RFE Update...

So, I called Medisys in Montreal, but as I assumed, they can't send out another copy of my medical from October 2009. Luckily, I found a Civil Surgeon in the Orlando area that was able to take me in today and charged $155. Can't wait for this all to be over!

  15. cdn- Any way you can apply to get your FL license in your maiden name now? Do you have an SSN in your maiden name? I was just wondering because without a valid Canadian license, I'm wondering if they will make you go through the whole process to get a Florida license- written test, driving test, etc. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, because that wouldn't be too fun.

Unfortunately, I can't even get one in my maiden name as there is a name mismatch in their system. (I tried, twice...) My SSN needs to be in my married name as all my government stuff is in my married name. Luckily, even if my Ontario expires, I can get a Florida DL when I have the right documentation, and don't need to take any tests. I just find it so weird that all my AOS stuff is in my married name, yet there is someplace in the system that still has my maiden when the SSA was trying to process me.

I am just anxious for tomorrow to come so I can start calling around to see get this all figured out. Hmf.

  16. Ashenflowers, I got my RFE today, and they want my medical too!!! I did transcribe my vaccines by a CS here in Orlando, paid something like $150 for that as they had to give me a shot too... I called the number on the form and talked to a supervisor today, who was actually really nice, but said that I understood the paper correctly. They have no record of my medical and I have to get it done.

To top that off, I went to get my SSN in my married name yesterday. Turns out, somewhere in the system they didn't change my maiden name to my married name, so they have to do a name verification and will then send me my new SSN. Too bad it won't come before my Canadian license expires (Saturday)... Now hubby will have to drive me around to get this stuff all taken care of. I am so frustrated with the system. Even when you do everything right, you still get screwed!!!

  17. So, I got my AP in the mail today --- a day before my parents are flying down to come see me! ha. How ironic! We didn't want to wait for the AP so I convinced them to head down this way instead.
