  1. Agentpeppermint's fiance has some serious mental health issues. That could be why they insisted on the insurance.

I assumed it was a major medical issue -- worried about the UKC being a burden on the state. Thanks for the clarification, Muffin.

Ah right. I wondered why the CO would be so mean as it doesn't say anything about needing insurance on the Embassy website. Phew..

Thanks for clearing that up.

So I was thinking more about this today - forget about for the interview, but are most people not bothering with getting health cover for the time before their marriage just in general? I mean, I guess maybe most people won't be waiting 8 weeks like me? Or this there some other scheme people are going to use? I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts. Thanks.

  2. Best wishes from us and best of luck to the following for tomorrow's interviews:

    Alixhilary.......................K1........................................27th April 2009

    Colinjess.......................K1........................................27th April 2009

Can't wait to see two more approvals for April!

Looks like the numbers have been increasing each month. I wonder if they are processing things faster, or there are more VJ people going through the process or just what the reason is.

I hope we can add our name to the May list soon. I'll call the DOS tomorrow and see if anything has changed. Last week when I called they said Pat was approved for an interview but no date had been assigned yet. I need all the lead-time I can get because I'm flying there to be with her at the interview... reserving vacation time, airfare, etc.

    Bob

Good luck to everyone with interviews this week!! Whew, this month has been pretty successful so far - let's keep it up for the last week!!

Bob&Patricia, fingers crossed for you getting a date soon!

  3. I've just been reading BritistExpat.com website.

Some guy on their called 'agentpeppermint' had an interview in London in March '09 & was told that NHS doesn't cover him in US so he was given a slip & told he had to find 12months health insurance (not travel insurance) & send proof back to the embassy before they'd issue the visa!

This is a new one. Anyone else heard of this?

Yeah I read about that in the same place, although haven't read anything on VJ. I'm probably going to get health cover for first couple months then I already have a letter from my fiance's employer saying he can add me to his cover after we're married. Hoping that will be ok for the interview - but who knows, sounds like you can get blue slip for almost anything on the day.

  4. lol hunny dont get upset. where he had to write the i intend to support ......in the oath he didnt tick the box and he put n/a ( k1 fiance visa immigration process) he should have ticked the box and said fiancee k1 visa or somethign to that effect. i will check with the model form. it really was just a silly mistake..... i am positive you wont do that.

Well this is interesting to me because we wrote the same as you! I am asking my fiance to send me another with that part changed - eeek!

Also will be waiting to hear more about Stinkerpotsam's troubles with police certs?! I hope I have the right thing!

Oh and congrats to the 3 (hopefully 4?!) of you all, of course! So happy to hear the good news :)

  5. Happy St George's Day! Rang up the State Department today and they said our Packet 3 was sent from London on Tuesday. As of yet though I have not received it, what class are the letters from the Embassy sent under?

It has also been over two weeks since I sent off for the Police Certificate and that has still not arrived. All I know is my cheque for the service was cashed on the 20th April (Monday).

Maybe I'll get two letters through the door tomorrow *crosses fingers*

I'm sure they'll be here soon - the USEM send things 2nd class so it does take a bit longer. My police certificate took about 3 weeks if i remember correctly and it took a while for the cheque to be cashed too. No need to worry yet!

  6. Just to add a quick note to this topic, when I sent my checklist back in March I just put 'June 09' for travel date and 'Aug 09' for wedding, no specific dates and even though they aren't confirmed. Well we ended up getting an interview in mid-May, but others around the same time got end of Apr, and others, I know, haven't heard at all yet (won't be long!). So don't know if that helps anyone with their estimations?!

  7. I think other people will be better placed than me to answer your 1st question, but the 2nd one I can help with because I too have a nut (and pea!) allergy and I had my medical the other day....well I wrote it on the questionnaire you bring along and also the other one they make you do there. I was asked questions about it but I think as long as it is under control you should be ok (I told her about antihistamines/epipen I always carry etc.) I also took letters from my testing (years ago) but wasn't asked for them - but I would say take them just in case. Although I don't yet have my visa and therefore proof this is all ok, it seems at the medical like they thought it wouldn't be a problem! It's not contagious or makes you a danger to others and I think those are what they mainly worry about. Hope that helps!

  8. I'm pretty sure if you're adjusting from K-1, you don't need to have a full medical again. Your fiancé will need his vaccinations transcribed by a civil surgeon though.

sooooo your saying that he should have had a copy of all his shots copied from a nurse back in the UK for us??

Nich-Nick wrote a really good post about what you need to do medically for AOS here:

    Hope that helps!

  9. Ridiculously exciting! Bon voyage FB! Didn't realise you were heading to Baltimore (is that where you'll be or onward flight from there?) Been there a few times and loved it, we will be just 'down the road' near DC/NoVA. Good luck!

  10. I'm going up for my medical tomorrow, I don't know what it'll be like but think the worst of it was yesterday and maybe today -it's for the G20 thing, more info on BBC but I can't get the link right now sorry.

I'm going anyway, just leaving plenty of time to get there in the morning! mrandmrs - didn't you have your medical this week?

ok, be careful and post us when u get back!

Thanks - was in London this morning and no signs of trouble. Have posted a short review in the medical thread as it was pretty standard!

  11. Hi all, just thought I'd post a quick report on my medical - all seemed pretty standard, and everything was ok for me today, I guess the blood test/xray etc takes a while to check (they said they'd call if anything wrong). I never did manage to get my records from my GP but had my travel records - still ended up needing Tdap and MMR vaccinations (decided to leave HPV until the States). No TB skin test, as expected, so I'll have to have that in the States too (maybe). Got the DS3025.

I had the 'efficient' lady doctor - she asked me a tonne of questions which made it seemed like the interview already! But maybe she was trying to put me at ease - I had high pulse/blood pressure which i dont normally so I was rather nervous for some reason (i get faint at the sight of blood!). Other than that, I was rather surprised at having to 'drop everything' when other people have only reported the doctor taking a 'peek' (but I'm a girl)!

Pleased to report no sign of the stroppy receptionist or any protestors or anything happening today in London. I even walked down to Gould Pharmacy to get some photos then on to the Embassy so I would know where it was for May - and it was really quiet (not even much of a queue there at 11.30am).

I'm happy to answer any questions for those who have medicals soon :)

  12. I apologize if i'm out of the loop, i dont watch tv much but i'm just hearing about the protests outside the us embassy in london. someone died today? It sounds dangerous! Is it hard to cross the lines for the interviews? Sorry, I'm probly the last person who knows whats going on.

wow...i am not up to date with the news these days but that sounds horrible. My fiance did not mention anything like this happening there. But that is probably because he is so busy that he does not have time to watch the news. Anyone know about such an incident occurring and what it's like waiting for the interviews?

I do know that Obama is in London right now, but what would that have to do with the protests? They are regarding the Climate Conference...

    heres on story:

It sounds dangerous. Anybody going down there for interviews this week? Please be safe! My fiance was going down there saturday for stuff and I'm going to tell him forget it, wait til this passes. Is it as bad as the news makes it look?

I'm going up for my medical tomorrow, I don't know what it'll be like but think the worst of it was yesterday and maybe today -it's for the G20 thing, more info on BBC but I can't get the link right now sorry.

  13. Just got in from work and wanted to add to the general sentiments already expressed - so sorry to hear about your day, Magpie. You must be feeling pretty rotten. I know it's cold comfort but like another poster said, at least it's not a denial and I just hope AP won't be too long for you. love.

  14. Hello, so my head is currently a mess of dates and best/worst case scenarios right now! I've just been reading couple old threads about AP and found it's an 'option' (along with suspend and denial) on the 'blue slip' if that happens to you - right?

So does that mean if you were going to get put in AP or whatever, you would always find out on the day of the interview, or has anyone heard of any cases where someone was told they were approved at the interview but then were placed in AP after?

I know I'm thinking way ahead here already, but if (everything crossed!) we got approved at our interview, I would like to hand my notice it at work the following Monday (i.e. before I actually got visa-in-hand) - how safe do you think that is to do?
