Filed July 15, had our AoS interview yesterday and it was approved. I have my SSN now and green card should be here soon. I can't believe it took less than 3 months! Now have to build credit... ugh.
-
Hmm, I don't have dates but they received our package July 14, Biometrics was... umm I can't remember, lol. I just got my EAD card the other day and we have our interview Oct 5th.

Update!
I was finally able to send in my AoS the beginning of July and it was received on the 14th. In the last few weeks I've had my biometrics, interview scheduled for beginning of October and I got my EAD card in the mail today. It's going on a lot faster than expected.
Now I'm just anxious to get that interview out of the way. It's good timing too because my husband leaves in less than 2 months for deployment.

Great, thank you very much!d/l form ssa-5 and prepare it accordingly -
Ok, thanks.I just received my EAD card in the mail today and have my interview the beginning of October. I am applying for adjustment of status after entering the Georgia on a visitor visa from Canada. Now that I have my EAD, do I need to get a SSN to get a job and drivers license? I do not have any terms attached to my EAD.
Thanks
most likely yes, it is a good thing to get the SSN as it allows you to do things such as what you mentioned much more easier.
I was looking here: http://www.ssa.gov/ssnvisa/whatyou_need.htm Is this the correct area for what I need? It says I need to fill out http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/81807.pdf ? I'm 27 and it asks for my living/work info in the past 10 years... I've had a LOT of jobs and moved a lot so I can't remember it all. I was lucky to remember the last 5 years needed for my AoS forms, lol.
*edit*
I see here http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10515.html that maybe I don't need to fill out that form and just need my EAD card?

I have no lawyer, I was laid off and lived with my parents before deciding to come here and visit for 10 days. I guess things aren't looking that good, eh?
Yes, he did sign me up for DEERS and I have my military ID card.
-
Thank you so much for your reply! He banks with USAA and they don't have a "real live bank" to go to. I have a letter here somewhere his mom sent me for my b-day in Feb, but other than that, we do everything online. I'll see about printing off some emails she sent us. About the credit card, again it's USAA and they are taking a long time. They had me fill out some W form saying I was not an American citizen and I wasn't using the income from his bank for business.

Thanks for your help, but we knew each other online for 8 months and I came here to visit with out the intention to marry but ya, we did fall madly in love, we live together now, we use my credit cards and he pays them with his money... I can't go on the lease because I don't have a SSN and adding me to his banking is just as hard for that reason.

I'm looking for some help on getting "Evidence of a Bonifide Marriage" for my I-130 (AoS from B2 visa).
1. Documentation showing joint ownership or property; or None
2. A lease showing joint tenancy of a common residence; or Because I don't have a SSN they wouldn't put me on our lease until I have one.
3. Documentation showing co-mingling of financial resources; or We sent a form to his bank to add me to his bank account but they are taking a LONG time to do it.
4. Birth certificate(s) of child(ren) born to you, the petitioner, and your spouse together; or None
5. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties having personal knowledge of the bona fides of the marital relationship (Each affidavit must contain the full name and address, date and place of birth of the person making the affidavit, his or her relationship to the petitioner of beneficiary, if any, and complete information and details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge of your marriage); or We are co-renting with my husbands best friend and wife so they are obviously aware of our marriage. We can go to the lawyer on the military base and get something like this but I'm not sure what we should write in the affidavit.
6. Any other relevant documentation to establish that there is an ongoing marital union. What else can we use? I just came here in January and got married in February. We really don't have much together because I don't have a SSN and they won't add me to anything. He did put onto his medical insurance (tri-care) at work. Would that also be proof?
Back history - No, I did not intend on getting married when coming here. I came here Jan 16, 2009 and we got married Feb 10, 2009.

Hey guys, since my spouse is military, i found out I could call USCIS directly and got all my answers at 1-877-cis-4MIl.
Thanks for your help
They said my point of entry would be Ottawa as it is where I entered. I also remember the lady at the gift shop saying it was considered American grounds once I crossed the immigration guys.
She said that I don't have a visa number and on my cover letter I would explain how I came over legally with a B2 visa.
-
I am filling out the I-485 and in part 3 it asks for:
Place of entry into the USA (city/state)
- I had a connecting flight from Ottawa, ON to Newark NJ to Savannah GA. would Newark or Savannah be my place of entry?
Were you inspected by a US Immigration officer?
- Is this the part where they ask you if you are going for business or pleasure and for how long?
Nonimmigrant Visa Number
- Since I came on a B2 and don't appear to have a visa number, what do I put? Is this number perhaps stamped on my visa somewhere?
Date Visa was issued, Consulate where Visa was issued.
- Again, because I wasn't issued a visa at a consulate, I guess I out none? And the date would be my flight departure date.
Thanks for your help

When I entered the US on my B2 visa, I didn't have a I-94. All they did was stamp my passport. When filling part 14:
If your relative is currently in the US, complete the following: Arrival/Departure Record (I-94)
| | | |-| | | | | | | | Date arrived
Date authorized stay expired, or will expire, as shown on form I-94 or I-95
So what do I fill out here? I know my date of arrival but what about that box with all the spaces?
Thanks

What if you didn't get an I-94? I am Canadian and came into the States with a B2 Visa on Jan 16.

I'm doing the AoS. I'm filling out the I-130, I-485 and I-765 along with the I-131.I really think I need to take these papers to someone, I'm really confused with some of the questions. Like when it asks for info on the I-94. All my passport says is date of entry Jan 16, 2009 and I am given a B2 visa. I know they say it's 6 months I can stay, but I don't know the exact date when it will expire. It asks for an employer and I don't have one. I applied for EI and they are trying to tell me I don't qualify but I know I have enough hours when they say they don't.. so I guess I just leave that area blank. And when it comes to addresses, I'm not too sure whether i should put my US address where I will be living on all of them or my one in Canada. Some fields specify for the Canada or US one, others don't. It asks if we are married where we last lived together, and that is where I am now (we rented an apartment and I can't put my name on the lease until I have a SSN) so I'm not sure if I should put that since my status is still visitor. And the eligibility categories for the I-765... I have no idea where to find that.
This takes me to the evidence of Bonifide marriage. Since I can't go on the lease, I can't use that. But I have been buying stuff for the apartment and paid for part of the deposit for the lease... maybe I can use that for proof... ack, so overwhelmed!
Oh ya, does my husband need a copy of his birth certificate or SSN card? He can't find them.

When I'm filling out my forms, is my name going to be my maiden or married name (we just got married on Tuesday and all my ID other than my new military ID has my maiden name on it)?
-
..totally.
Thanks, that really clarifies things.
-
It's just random things I'm reading around the internet. I'm going to assume it's if maybe the person has overstayed or something...
-
I do have another question.
I am reading that you need "permission" to get married otherwise you may get deported when applying for a visa. Where do I get this permission from?

We had our interview yesterday and it was approved. I showed them our lease (they put me on it), joint bank account, Power of Attorney (since hubby is deploying soon) and Will. I have my SSN and will have my green card soon. I can't believe I was worried so much, it was not bad at all. Thanks to all those with helpful advice.
