  1. I tried to do some research, but I'm not getting the specific answers I'm looking for. I'm a US citizen and have filed for a petition to bring my brother from Nepal. I field the petition in 2008 and from the email records I've, I've what seems like two case numbers... one starts with NVC and the other starting with KDU... I went to NVC site and plugged in the NVC# and got a status saying the I-130 has been approved in 2008.

If I understand based on what i read, it seems like the priority date is only for 2001 right now... so, in the future when it gets to 2008, I'll be able to apply for Green Card for him? My address has changed since i did the initial filing, so should I change the address... but not sure, where to send the address change information. Also, will something be sent to me informing that it's time to file for the green card?

thanks in advance for any help.

  2. Went for Infopass appointment, it was worthless... they said we've to wait another 90 days before they can do anything... I called Customs and Border Patrol and they said there's nothing they can do... they don't keep the "brown/yellow" envelope there... they mail all out to USCIS... so, I guess we just wait... this sucks :))

  3. Did they hand in the brown envelope at their POE? it sounds like this has not been sent to USCIS. I would check with the POE to find out if they forwarded it to USCIS and when.

Yes, my parents did hand over the brown envelope at their POE. I was specifically told by POE staff when we went there the 2nd time that they'll be forwarding all to USCIS. I think the POE messed it up here. How would I get hold of someone at POE? Any ideas?

  4. I'm a USC, petitioned for my parents and got approved. My parents entered US on May 22, 2009 and from my understanding we didn't need to do anything for them to receive their greencard. I called USCIS today and gave them the A# that was stamped on the passport, and was told that they don't have their greencard application on file. I made the infopass appointment, but was wondering what do they mean by no application on file? How long is my parent IV visa valid for? Do I've to take precaution for them overstaying their visa if they don't get a greencard soon or there's no visa time limit on IV visa?

Just a little background, I think the problem was at the POE, when the initial IO stamped them with a visitor visa for 6 months. I got a call a week after my parents arrival from the POE asking to come again as they've to correct the visa. We went there and got IV visa stamped on my parents passport, but I don't know if they submit all the information to USCIS for greencard processing, which they told me they'll take care of it.

Just any thoughts or experience sharing will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  5. My parents are here in US now... plz see the timeline for details... basically I'm a USC who sponsored my parents for IV visa... once they r here, how long will it before they'll receive green card in mail... will the Social Security also come at the same time with the green card or those r sent separately... will it be ok for them to travel outside US before they have the GC in hand? Thanks.

  6. To add more detail, my mom said that five yrs ago she was diagnosed with TB and was on medication for a year. However, even after the treatment, the scar on her chest remained and the Dr told her not to worry about it as the scar might be a permanent one from her childhood. She told all this to the Dr on her IV Medical checkup. The text on the visa says "Class A and Class B".

After reading your reply, I'm little relieved. I did the google search and it seems like as some of you mentioned, they'll send letter to the county and have us follow up there and get treatment if required. Once again, thank you very much.

  7. I'm sorry, but I don't have the detail yet, but I'm so worried that I thought if I post whatever information I've, someone could express their opinion.

My parent's IV got approved, stamped... I just talked to my mom and she said that in her passport it says something like "Attn: USDPS.. TB class AB"... Again, the passport is with my brother, so she couldn't recall what the exact text is on the passport... I asked her about her medical history and she mentioned that about 5 yrs ago, she was coughing a lot and the dr found a patch/mark on her lung... she got treated for a year and the mark was still there... but, the Dr told her it might be an old mark from the child when she had pnemonia or something from her childhood.

She went thru the medical checkup before her IV approval... I'm really concerned now... will they deny her entry when she gets to the US port of entry? Any advise on what she could/should do? I was reading some USCIS website, and it mention that the TB patient has to go thru the treatment before applying for AOS. Will my mom has to do the same thing? If so, then I should start looking for insurance, but I don't know if any insurance covers pre-existing cases... Thank you very much for any help.

  8. Depends on what kinda petition are you filing for.

If it's one of these 2 petition, then you need to submit birth certificate:

    Petitioner Documents

Applicants in the following visa categories are required to provide 1) an original or certified copy of their Petitioner’s birth certificate and 2) original or certified copy of their Petitioner’s marriage certificate from the Petitioner’s current and all previous marriages.

    * Parent of a U.S. Citizen who is at least 21 years old (IR-5)

    * Brothers and sisters of United States citizens (F4)

  11. My parents got the visa and I’m so relieved and happy. This website has been a great help through out the process and I wanted to thank everyone for their support and well wishes.

This is their recount of the interview:

Their interview date was scheduled for April 29th, but when they went to the embassy to ensure that all the paper work was in place, the staff at the embassy asked if they would like earlier date of April 20th for the interview. Their interview was set for 1:30pm, but they didn’t make it there till 2:00pm. They waited for about half an hour and their names were called. First, they called my mom to a window and took her finger print, then asked her to wait. Similarly, my dad’s name was called and he was finger printed as well. Then after 15 minutes, their names were called again and the counselor asked them few questions:

What does your son do in US?

Is your son married? Is your son married to the native girl (Nepali girl)?

Does you son/daughter-in-law have any kids?

Then, the counselor asked in Nepali to both my parents, “how’s your health?”. They replied, “good”. The counselor asked them to confirm that all the information on the form were accurate and sign where marked “X”. I’m assuming this was the DS-230 part II where my parents put their signature. They were asked to come back Thursday for the visa. If not counting the wait in line, the whole interview process lasted about half an hour. The finger printing was few minutes, then wait for their name call for the interview was 15 minutes, and the interview itself was about 15 minutes.

I wish all the others good luck and thanks again.

  12. Just wondering if someone could shed some light on what's going on here. I (USC) sponsored my parents for IV. Their case was completed by NVC and interview date was set for April 29th. However, when my parents went to get their medical done, the Dr told them that it's better to contact the Embassy and see if all the papers are there, just to ensure everything's in place. When my parents went to the embassy a week ago, the embassy told them to come with all the paperwork on April 9th. Since, all the paperwork were already sent to the embassy thru NVC, so they went to embassy yesterday (9th) and submitted their passport and passport pictures. The individual at the embassy kept the passport and the picture and ask my parents if they can come back on the 20th instead of 29th (their initial interview schedule date). I asked my parents if any interview was done yesterday, and they said "no... nothing was asked", which lead me to believe that their interview hasn't been conducted yet. What do u think is going on here?? Any ideas? Thanks for anyone's help.

  13. You are good to go... I also have 2 IV bill for each of my parent... one says rejected and other shows paid... u went thru the same situation that I did... after my incident, I did post a caution here hoping it'll help others to not go thru the same situation... but, it's been a while since I posted it, so noone comes across it... but, like I said, you are all good... good luck.

  14. I think u paid it online b4 the bill was generated... something very similar to that happened to me... give it few days and the system will fix itself, so u can pay it again... I'll ensure that the money wasn't taken out of ur bank account... u can always call NVC and check what might be the true reason on why it was rejected... u can do a search on the post from my id, and u'll see that I went thru the same situation... good luck.

  15. You get the certified copy from wherever the issuing agency is. Example: If you are born in Country A, you need to get a certified copy from that Country A. If you were born in US, then only you can get a certified copy from the US county offices. Similarly, if you were married in US, then u can get a certified copy of the marriage certificate from the US county where you got married. Looking at your profile, you might've been born in UK, then you'll need to get a certified birth certificate from UK. Hope that helps.

  16. Please check this link out ==> http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

For petioner's document (in this case, you), you don't need divorce certificate. You need all ur marriage certificate, and remember that at least one copy all the documents have to be CERTIFIED OR ORIGINAL. The notarized copy will not work. Again, notarized is not a certified copy. A certified copy has to be issued by the proper issuing agency.

As for the picture, I just put them in a small envelope and wrote the NVC case no, Beneficiary's name/date of birth on the envelope.

  17. Like you all my paperwork is ready to go...I just need the AOS & IV bills emailed to my husband so he can pay them. I don't thing we have ever this eagerly waited to receive and pay a bill :)

By the way, should I call them and let them know my email address? I've not talked to an operator since I got case # assigned.

I would call NVC and give them the email address. NVC asked if I had an email when I called them, and since then I've received everything via email. It expedites the process in the sense that email will get to you faster than mail and you can check it from anywhere.

  18. You do have to send the marriage certificate (of all ur previous marriage also if u r divorced). See the link ==> http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/in...age_certificate

the applicant for the visa does but not the USC who is submitting the form on behalf of the intended immigrant

Marriage certificate of both the beneficiary and the petioner is required (if filing for parents). Did you read through that link I sent?
