  1. Wow, hadn't heard about this. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Thanks for sharing!

I'm sure many of us have heard about the failure in the FBI background checks that has plagued the ELIS system and was recently uncovered. The House Judicial Committee has ordered USCIS

"... that any scheduled naturalization ceremonies be cancelled and that no naturalization applications be approved."

Some have said that only those who were processed through the ELIS system (with an IOE case number) are affected by this but I feel like this will affect all of us who are in the process.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think we are in it for the long haul. I hope I am wrong on this.

  2. Thank you so much for these videos, Jamaican_Gooner! I'd been a little worried that we hadn't filled the form out correctly, so I'm following along while watching the videos. Very helpful!

    Thanks Kash2011.

I also found these Youtube videos very helpful in pulling together my N-400 Package

  3. Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing well. Haven't heard from anyone on this list in awhile and thought I would check in. Phill finally found a job at the end of March. He moved here April 14th of last year, so he was almost out of work for a year! He's working at the local Walmart temporarily helping with their remodel...he's been told that he has a high chance of being kept on there, which is great! Has everyone else here found work? I'm curious to know something. Phill's work card expires this year, whereas his resident card expires next year. I guess I thought the work card would last two years as well. I guess we need to find the info on how to renew it, so he can continue working before his resident card is up.

  4. Hi everybody! We got my husband's green card in the mail on Friday, so I guess the visa journey is over for now ... although I'm already thinking about ROC, hehe.

On Thursday morning I woke up for a glass of water and fainted in our kitchen  But my husband still can't drive yet, so I ended up driving us over to the hospital  I think he really wants to learn to drive now!! haha Fortunately I am doing OK. And actually, the residual effects of motivating him to learn to drive are really cool :hehe:

Congrats on the green card! WOOT!! Hope you are doing okay! That's scary, but at least your hubby was there to help you out!

  5. Hey guys :)

Thought I'd finally get involved with this thread! Just had our biometrics done this month and now waiting, waiting...absolutely desperate to get working, plus I've seen some really cheap flights home and I'd like to get a visit in before I become slave to the rubbish amounts of vacation time over here ;), so I'm really hoping to see some movement soon.

Leenie - congratulations on your approval :) you must feel like such a weight has been lifted!!!

    J

Hello!! Welcome to the thread, nice to see another person here! The waiting is horrible, but it'll be so worth it when you're done!!

  6. Thank you!! Once you get your EAD, I hope you find something fast!!

Beatlesrebel I hope your hubby finds something very soon *fingers crossed*. I left my job on the 22nd July and it's been really hard for especially since I used to work two jobs seven days a week at home. From all that to now nothing *sigh*. I'm sure once I get a job I'll be dying to get back to day time tv.......Nancy Grace  (my Nancy Grace rant is for another thread lol)

Wow! At least you know people who are interested!! That's pretty cool!

I have had about 7 calls offering me interviews but i have no EAD yet so can't do much. All the folks that called have said to contact them when i get it [EAD] and they'll do whatever they can. One was McDonnell Douglas in MD. :o

Wow, it's excellent to already have some opportunities for work lined up. I do hope you get your EAD through soon!

Our interview today went really well! We passed! I put a very long and detailed review up here on VJ, which can be viewed in our timeline. I hope it will be helpful to some who are still anticipating their interview

    Wonderful to hear!

  7. Hello!! Oh I hope this thread doesn't end! It's like home here! :) Anyway, good luck with the interview! I'm sure it will go great! Let us know everything that happened when you can!

Things here are going as well as can be expected. Phill enjoyed his first Christmas in the states...and New Year's Eve! Poor guy is not having any luck at all finding a job and it's really starting to get to him. He's worked all his life and has been out of work since April (when he moved here). He keeps applying though, which I told him that's really all he can do for now. How about everyone else? How has the job market been for the rest of you?

Hi 2010 UK AOS filers :)

Just wanted to pop in and see how everyone is. Now that it's 2011, this thread might be coming to an end soon *tear*!

Tomorrow is my husband's AOS interview, and we're as excited as can be. I'm not nervous because we are so super prepared with documents and tons of pics. I think this will be more fun than nerve-wracking ... and there is nothing I love more than talking about my dear husband, sooo :luv:

  8. It was my husband's first Thanksgiving, too. My dad joked about putting a "First Thanksgiving" baby's bib on him. Good thing my husband and my dad really get on  We're looking forward to seeing your wedding pics!

A lot of our mail from the UK/Ireland has gone missing lately. My husband's mom sent us mail before our wedding (Sept 10th) that we've totally given up on. She also sent us some cards for Christmas but nothing yet!! Hmhm!

Oh my gosh, one of my really good friends from work was going to give Phill a "First Thanksgiving" bib, but she never did find one! LOL! I'm nervous about the mail Phill's mom sent now. She ordered something directly through Amazon.com and had it shipped here, so that shouldn't be a problem. She's sending a small parcel along with Christmas cards though. Hmmm...

  9. Glad you had a great thanksgiving beatlesrebel! We did too. Its my second one but I still made everything from scratch. It was great! I'm really looking forward to christmas now though. My mom, back home in the UK, has sent me a package containing all the british christmas goodies... christmas pudding, mincemeat, seafood sauce etc... Its been two weeks now though and we still haven't recieved it so am starting to get worried as shes spent over £50 in postage.

Has anyone had any delays in postage from the UK?

Very cool! I'm sure you'll get your package...soon. Phill sent me a package for Valentine's Day this year and it got to me almost about the time it was time for him to move over. The postal system really does suck once in awhile. lol I wonder if the box ended up having to be opened??

By the way, love your jewelry! It's beautiful! Hope it does well for you!

  10. Hey all,

It's been awhile. Hope everyone is doing well. Phill had his first Thanksgiving which he really enjoyed! Now he's enjoying his first Christmas time in the states! He is STILL looking for a job. He's become very discouraged, but I keep telling him to hold on and he'll find something soon. It's just really frustrating.

We had our "real" wedding on November 6th! What a beautiful day! Once I get pics uploaded, I'll share a link here. Merry Christmas everyone!

  11. Just discovered this thread a few days ago: all good - see timeline - approved at interview yesterday. Still got EAD and AP in hand and officer did not stamp I551 in passport. Infopass scheduled already for end of week in anticipation of this happening (!) to see if I can get the stamp.

    Happy days!

Congrats! So happy for you! And welcome to the thread! :)

Update on us: Phill is applying everywhere he can. He's applied at a local farm and ranch store, UPS, and is currently doing Radioshack's tedious questionnaire right now. Poor guy. He's willing to take anything right now until he can get a job in his field. How is everyone else's job search going?

  12. I'm also in the "ds-3025 only" club. Mine was marked with the incomplete/blanket waiver option, but it does show 2 doses of MMR (I think I read on here somewhere that you need 2 doses? I may be insane) and VH for chickenpox history so fingers crossed I don't get an RFE for the i-693. And that they haven't lost my medical which seems to be cropping up on the boards a lot lately.

Congrats on getting it sent off! I hope the process is as smooth for you as it was for Phill and myself. We only sent in the DS-3025. We refused to spend any more money unless we had to. I believe Phill's DS-3025 also said something about the waiver options, but ALL of his vaccines had been done, so we weren't too worried! Here's hoping that you don't get an RFE!

  13. Received our texts and emails that our AOS etc application has been received, yay.

We're lucky here in Indianapolis for British food (although it's NZ fish and chips and hokey pokey ice cream I miss the most) because both Kroger and Meijer, our local mid-west supermarkets, carry quite a range of British food and we have Trader Joes and World Foods both up on the North side. I think that you can order online from World Foods so that might help people who don't have anything near them.

WOOHOO!!! Wow, you have a lot of options there!!

  14. Yay, we finally filed for AOS today (one year from the day we filed for the K-1, coincidentally)

Our biggest concern was the vaccinations, so we ended up getting them transcribed by a CS, where we learned my husband needed the second round of MMR before he was good to go. Good thing we went to see the CS! They jabbed him and waived the transcription fee :star:

But I was still nervous so I included a page from the I-693 isntructions and highlighted the bit about K-1s not needing a repeat medical. Hope it works :x

Woohoo! Congrats on getting it sent in! It's always good to cover your bases, I'm sure you won't have any problem at all!

  15. Turns out, I got offered a job on friday, cant believe it! Im going to be working at a local tiny airport, I used to work at heathrow, so its kind of the same field, just a tiny bit smaller!

    That's great! Congrats!

Oh good cheese, definitely miss that, but we have Trader Joes out here in Cali, they sell some good cheeses from around the world, including English Chedder, made in England! Its a shame they dont have more stores across the states.

I have been to World Market and I got very excited by the random british food selection. Its funny, they are things I probably wouldnt eat at home, but because I recognise them, I get all happy and want them

Hmm I've heard of Trader Joe's, I'll have to see if they have a store near here. There is a local grocery store chain that has a "marketplace" store in a nearby town. I've heard they have some world foods there, so we need to check that out as well. LOL that's too funny! I was happy because they sell mushy peas! Last year when I was in England, Phill introduced me to them! Yum!
