Another question I just thought of was about original versus photocopies of supporting documents such as birth certificates and marriage certificates and such for the form I-130.
The reason I ask is because I have copies scanned and saved on a hard drive and I can just print however many copies they need and they are recently dated.
I know sometimes immigration may specify if they need the originals, but I've heard they are doing away with asking for original until an interview. Is that legit or just a fame rumor?

So my mom is a permanent resident and I think I read somewhere on this forum that she can petition for my dad and that by including my 2 under 21 brothers in the application 130 for my dad We could save on the 130 fee by paying only one fee for all 3...(130 stage that is, I know after that they will each have to pay a fee for the Consular stage)
Is that correct ?
Now this brings me to my most pressing question: my oldest lil brother is 18 and the youngest is 16.
What kind of supporting document do I need for them and do I need to include them in with my dad's petition or do those wait for the consular stage of the application?

So My mom was a proved for her immigrant visa. Thank you God it was long and stressful but over now.
My main question is what is next? I am about to pay the fee and I was wondering what happens when she gets her at the airport.
Will she have another interview at the POE in the airport or will it be just a case of showing paperwork and fees paid and she will be on her merry way?
The reason I ask is because she isn't fluent in English and I didn't not think she will have another interview so I thought it'd be okay for her to just do the trip alone without me needing to go back home to escort her all the way here.
She has been visiting us in the States almost every year for the past 10 years so she can travel alone.
What do you guys think?

I have been getting ready to send in evidence to complete application for my mom's immigrant visa. I'm the USC petitioner and after the paperwork part I'm sure she will get her interview/VISIT MEDICAL at the embassy in Libreville gabon. I know I probably should post on that particular embassy page but I don't think there is enough experience if any on this site so I figured I'd just ask about people who have gone thru embassy/consulate ways for their parents. I just wanna see what types of experience out there and what type/line of questions to expect. I also know it might be different per region, even per countries.. If anyone went thru Libreville for their parents visa, please share their experience. Also in Africa in general and even anywhere. At this point I just don't know what to expect and how to get my mom ready.
A little background: I'm the USC and I want to bring my family up here from Libreville Gabon. I have my mother and Father along with two little brother. One is 15 and the oldest is 18. So I'm planning on bringing my mom first and then she can petition for them and then when theirs is close to being ready I'll petition for my dad. Hopefully they don't age out in the process. And I'm lucky enough to have a career where I make enough to support them all so that's one less issue.

so im filling out the DS260 for my mother Im the USC. the question about what work will she be doing when she gets to the US. What am I suppose to answer there? She is close to 60 and frankly Ill be the one taking care of her. I did put NOT EMPLOYED but it wants me to explain. How do I explain it so it doesnt look like she will be a burden. I have a good job and can care for her, medical and all?

Is she in the US now? If she is already here and came without intent to adjust she can do so. If she is not here you will need to file the I-130 and wait for her to obtain her IR-5 in her country. It is slightly longer but not significantly and it's the only legal way.
No she is not in the US yet. She's been visiting every year and she is supposed to come around December for the birth of her second grandchild Lord willing. I was just wondering if I should wait till she comes to visit and do her AOS then or is it not a good idea(also illegal)? My main concern is that it would be easier for me and her, since she cannot read that well and really don't want her missing out because she didn't understand something and also our Postal service sucks in Gabon. When I send mail it takes usually 3 to 4 months before they receive anything and fax randomly work and internet is still widely dial up speed. Either I could do it, whether it is Embassy or here in the US... Just looking for less strenuous way.

I just completed my Citizenship process and now Am a proud USC...
I am now looking forward to my next rounds with the USCIS. I am trying to see which routes to take as I want to petition for some of my family members to immigrate to the US as well. My Mother, Father and two minor brothers, ages 10 and 15...
Now I am aware that for sibling it could take around a decade if not longer, especially if they age out or change status during the process... So I want to proceed as follow:
Petition for my mother, since she is immediate relative, then if and once she gets her Permanent residency, she could then petition for my little brothers.
Now my mother still has 4 years left on her visitor visa (tourist). I was wondering if it was possible for her to come to the US and adjust directly here, or does she still have to wait for me to send in an I-130 and wait for it to be approved before we could process further at the embassy...
The reason I ask is that I think it could be faster if I sent in the I-130 and i-485 at the same time, and it is only possible if adjusting in the US, but I don't know what are the restrictions on that visa-wise while in...

Oath is done. I am now officially a US Citizen as of 3PM... Lasted about 30 minute.

Well just passed my interview and civic test. My oath is in approximatly in 15min at 1:30Pm
It was in Centennual colorado.
Came in at 10:45AM my interview was scheduled for 11:15AM. Waited till 12:30Pm to be called in. I was sworn in then the IO proceeded to review the application with me. I was worried since I applied 4 days before my 3months since I moved to Colorado in November. I was certain I would be denied for that. But turns out it was a non issue 2 days early(per NOA). He looked for our daughter's BC he couldn't find it in the folder so he asked me for my original and once made a copy of it and opened the folder again there was the copy I had sent in. He laughed and said "well now I have 2".
Then we prixeeded to do the civic test. Not necessarily in that order...
Who is the Governor of your state?
Where is the statue of liberty?
Who is the first president of the US?
What movement tried to end racial discrimination?
What is the supreme law of the Land?
What is one promess u make whn becoming a CitiZen?
The Question I read was "Who lives in the White House?"
The line I had to write "The president lives in the White House."
Then the officer told me I passed and that there was a ceremony at 1:30PM and if I was wanting to take that one... Of course I said I'll take it lol.
Okay they are calling us to go take the Oath Ceremony now. Good luck to anyone waiting or having their interview... I'll keep u posted on the Oath but I'm sure it is about the same as evry other ones.

We were approved! The interview went by in a flash - I was in and out in 10 minutes (at most). Six basic questions all from the book. The oath ceremony is in 2 weeks! Wow. The journey's coming to an end here.

Sent in tax returns past 3 years and a few bank statements from the past 3years.. Also sent in insurance, benefits and birth certificate of our kid... Also sent in pictures of both our IDs with same address. Also change of address from USPS for all our moves. A few pictures. That was about it. Havent received no RFE or yellow letters but I have ally passports ever issued, originals of docs sent in... My interview is on the 05/09 and havent received a yellow letter requesting specific docs... But by God I will be ready lol

I, too, wondered whether to file based on 3 or 5. Because I wanted to vote for Obama so bad, I decided to file based on 3 yrs. Sorry, Republicans. Plus, I travel A LOT and just wanted easy traveling to other countries without the hustle of visa etc. I moved to a different state shortly before ROC.
THAT TOO LOL. I was born in Gabon central Africa but my parents are from Senegal where I got my citizenship. Gabon unfortunately makes it easier for occidentals to get in and live there and make it more difficult for fellow Africans to even be visitors on tourist visa. And the sad part is that even tho I was born there and my parents still live there legally it would be easier for me to go there with USC passport rather than Senegalese one. SO taking my wife and daughter for first time to meet the rest of my family... Also now we could easily go vacationing in Europe and such countries without my original citizenship. Being a drag.

I agree with Udella. AOS was hardest because did'nt have a clue. Really if u just did ROC it is basically a duplicate of the step. I sent in the exact document with my 2011 taxes. That's it. Hopefully that will be enough at the interview. I'd rather get it out of the way while I got all the docs in hand rather than later trying to gather and organize... But either it's at your own conveniance. Hopefully 2 to 3 years from now it dont get more complex and more extensive since USCIS like to raise fees often.

Funny That is the main reason why I did my citizenship. or still doing it. I wanna vote. Anything but Republican lol. Bummer I guess we will cancell each other out. but really would be my first time voting and I'm excited

I am a muslim and did AOS from F1 although my name does not sound muslim at all. But Senegal is a country at majority muslim so I'm sure I would be assumed Muslim before anything else. No question was even asked about my beliefs. Only question I was asked were if I attended any other school beside the ELS school I had on my F1 visa. They were more concerned about my relationship with my wife.
The only ones who would really scrutinise u being muslim might be the FBI during backgroud check. If your background passed really u should be ok. If I was you my bigest concern would be to succed in proving your genuine relationship with your wife. If you get so tense that u can't even answer simple questions about your relationship I really dont care what your beliefs are. It will raise flags.
Just be yourself. Dont over do anything. answer as short and precise as possible. I know being Muslim is not the most popular thing to right now in America... But I dont think you will be driled for being a servant of Allah.
