LOL! That confused me a little. So is the 13 original state the same as the 13 original colonies?

What did you answer on "Name 3 of the original colonies?"
Does it refer to the 13 Original states?
Oh sorry, yes, they asked for 3 of the 13 original states (which are the same as the 13 original colonies - sorry! They asked what it asks in the booklet.)

Woohoo! Approved! Dallas does same day oath and pretty much everyone else there was doing their ceremony at 1:00 today, but since Sifa is changing his name we have to wait to get a letter. I'm just glad the hard part is over! Took about 30 minutes, they didn't look at any of the documents we brought in but did look at some of the pictures we submitted back with ROC. Only asked 3 questions from teh booklet (who wrote the Declaration, who is the Commander in Chief, and name 3 of the original 13 colonies) and that's it. Easy!

Finally got rescheduled interview date for 1/30/14!

Congrats to everyone who has been approved and taken the oath!!
We are waiting patiently to see when they will reschedule the interview since the USCIS office was closed due to weather on the day of Sifa's interview. Hopefully we'll hear something soon!

Well, our interview is officially postponed - Dallas field office closed due to inclement weather today. Disappointed but also super glad I'm not driving over to Irving on ice roads today!

Currently stalking the USCIS website to see if the Dallas office is closed for inclement weather tomorrow - practically every school district in the area has already decided to close schools tomorrow. Anyone know if they contact people with interviews directly or just have to keep checking the website for closures? I'll be disappointed if the interview has to be postponed, but it's also a pretty long drive for us on a crappy highway if there's still ice on the roads!

I realize this post is now a few months old, so you may have already gone...but what part of Kenya does he live in? You can get hotels for pretty cheap in most parts of the country if you'd rather have your own place to stay for at least part of your trip. When I first moved to Kenya I stayed with a Kenyan family for 3 months and I often wished I had a place of my own to get away to for a bit, but that's just me. Traveling alone in Kenya as a female isn't as bad as some people make it out to be - I traveled all over the country both solo and with friends. If you haven't gone and you're looking for specific places let me know - I have friends that have lived all over Kenya (including myself!) so I might be able to help you out

Hi all - Hoping to officially join the August filers soon. We're just waiting on our 2012 transcript and we'll be able to mail it in.
Question for those who are applying after 3 years based on marriage...in part 7 of the application it asks about trips taken outside of the US in the last 5 years. Obviously Sifa was still in Kenya up until Feb. 2010. What did you guys put in part 7? The number of days outside the US before moving here and then N/A on the trips if he hasn't traveled outside the US since getting here 3.5 years ago? Just wondering since he technically has been out of the US quite a few days in the last 5 years but not since moving here!

Unfortunately it looks like Somalia is on the list of countries where they would need to get a visa in advance, not at the airport.

I'm not sure if the US Embassy would ask about the visa (I doubt it) but how will he get in, even through Uganda, if he doesn't have the visa in place?

Wow! What a coincidence. I just posted on here earlier today to say that I hadn't heard anything yet about my application, and was getting worried. And then the very same day, I get a letter in the post from immigration to say that I was approved! The approval date was April 22nd. Letter arrived today, April 25th.
Yay!
Green card production has been ordered.
Does anyone know how long it usually takes for green card to arrive? My husband and I want to buy tickets to visit my family in England as soon as I have it in hand, but the letter says up to 60 days. That would be cutting it awfully close for our planned trip this summer.
Congrats! Ours came a week after the approval date (and it seems like that's about average looking at some of these timelines) - you'll probably get it sometime next week

Oh ok thank you, I have been sending her money every month, so im sure that documentation will help. we talk everyday on FB and sometimes phone.. so its been since dec 2012 that we met online. Hence why we want to take the next step. With having Family and an child in Kenya that will assure she will come back there.
Right now shes in between jobs, her recent one wasnt paying money at the end for months and folded the tour company that was very lucrative before. So we trying to figure out whether she should job seek, school or put her efforts into,coming here or me going there? I didnt want to spend the money to go there if thats not going to help us get her here, but if thats what i should do now thats feasible. we also know it would take 2 years or more to finally get her here so we patient with that. Thanks for your input and time. So go there first?
Yes, I would say that's your best bet - go visit her, spend time together there, see where you want to go from there. If you decide then that you want to get married for sure and pursue the K-1, great. In the meantime, I'd say she should look for work...the only reason I suggest that over going to school in Kenya is that basically none of my husband's classes that he had taken beyond high school (he had a couple of certificates, etc) counted for anything when he got to the US. If you're serious about eventually marrying and having her here, I think going to school here can be a better choice.
The thing about spending the money to go there is this: if she got the tourist visa, let's say, you'd be spending the money for her to come here to visit (same cost) and return to Kenya, and then possibly/hopefully another ticket in the future for her to move to the US later upon getting the K-1 or whatever. So really you aren't spending unnecessary money. Plus you get to see Kenya, which is an absolutely amazing country
Bonus!Hope that helps a bit. When you go, make sure to save EVERYTHING, so that if you do go for a K-1/CR-1 you have evidence for it later.

We met when I was a volunteer in Kenya, but I went back for a couple of visits after my service was over and I had moved back to the states. Then we did the K-1.
Definitely not inexpensive...you do either have to make enough money to sponsor for a K-1 OR have a cosponsor - same with adjustment of status once you are married. Also just the fees and stuff...dang. Quick calculation I would say conservative estimate that we've spent at least $4000 with all of the fees, medical exams, and his flight here - probably more than that, really. Definitely more than that if you throw in my flights back there to visit while we were apart. It's worth it though, of course, and most of those costs are spread out over time so you have time to save up for say, the adjustment of status fee or the removal of conditions fee.
