  1. I know this forum is about getting your Visa, but I really need to know how to Divorce someone that lives in Montreal Canada and we were married there. The website does not give me a lot of information about divorcing your spouse I thought I’d come here and try and get some advice on how to make this happen. My husband and I got married in Dec 08. We have not lived together at all since we married. I'm an American Citizen, and he resides in Montreal Canada. Sometimes I hear from him and sometimes I don’t. We don’t have any kid, property nothing together, so I thought this would be an easy process. I think it’s best if we go our separate ways, but I’m confused on how to do it. The Divorce process is different in Canada. Can someone help and let me know the first step on divorcing someone in Canada.

  2. You mean to tell me you were denied entry in the US Consulate!!!!!! Everyone’s blog I read on here some of them take there spouses with them rather they are a US citizen or not. I don’t remember any one saying they were denied entry with their spouse . When I came to Montreal in Dec 08 I went to the US Consulate with my husband to take some paper work up there to drop off and the Security men would not let me in and I’m a USC. It was about -18 degrees. And if any one here has been to the Consulate in Montreal soon as you walk through the door right at the stairs that was where I had to sit for 3 hours in the cold, on hard cold concrete. The door kept opening it only got colder and colder in there. They would not let me in there. They said because I did not have any Consulate business (but hell my husband did.) Any ways one of the security men must have felt sorry for me and did come and ask me was I ok. Almost suffering from hypothermia I was like NO. He just shut the door and went about his daily duties. I could have sat there and froze to death, and no one would have cared. So Ms P I can relate.

  3. Mstangie, when I had my interview last Feb 8 ( I saw your husband on that day, too) I was asked to submit a proof of my legal status in Canada since my work permit expired in December of 2009. I told the interviewer that my visitor's visa application in Canada was approved on Feb 2 (thru CIC phone service inquiry) and told her that the mailing of the visitor's permit will take 7-10 business days, but still she wanted me to show it to her. Actually, I got a mail from CIC on that day of my interview. I was asked for a CENOMAR,too. I submitted those on March 3 with my passport. I emailed Montreal on March 23rd telling them that my husband is scheduled for a surgery on Apr22nd and got a response on the following day saying:

"Once the documents are matched with your file we will review them and advise you. due to the high volume of mail we cannot guarantee that your visa will be issued by the 22nd"

Yesterday, my husband faxed a detailed letter about our application to his CongRep which hopefully today the CongRep office will contact Montreal so that we can hear something promising about our case.

I may not answer your queries, Mstangie. But I am hoping and praying that we (Coralie, mstangie and tHund3r who were interviewed on FEB 8) will soon get over this whole process and be together with our loved ones because after all, this is what this visa is for.

Yes someday this will be over for all of us. Now when he sends that letter for the Canadian Immigration should he send in his passport as well? What exactly is a CENOMAR? Are you from Canada? Do you mind me asking what your status is in Canada?!! You actually emailed the US Consulate and got a quick response lucky you. I emailed them on Feb 9 and I just got a response on March 25.

  4. When my wife and I were going for her CR-1 in the States her family and she had a pending Humanitarian and Compassionate case pending in Canada. We were using a lawyer for our case as it was a pretty unique case, just a FYI. He asked us to provide all of the information that her family had on their case (application, copies of their passports with the date they entered Canada stamped on them, any updates/additional information requests/processing status updates they received from the Canadian Government, as well as copies of any immigration documents they received while in Canada (medical cards, etc...).

After we provided all of that it seemed enough to show the US Government that they were in Canada legally and our file was moved on. I think this should work for you guys as well as my wife technically didn't have citizenship or any other status in any other country in the world at that time as she was born in the former Yugoslavia and Serbia doesn't like to recognize anyone that left :)

    Hope this helps!

Thanks Boflex this really gives me hope. So do you think he should give them all of his paperwork for his pending case. Although the US Consulate is only asking for a letter from the Canadian Immigration on his pending case should he send in everything he has on his pending case with the Canadian Immigratioin?

  5. I spoke with my hubby last night, and he told me that he received a letter from the US Consulate. The letter said that he needed a letter from the Canadian Immigration on his pending case there. Now I called the DOS yesterday and the lady didn’t even tell me that they had sent out a letter the only thing she told me was his file had been touched this month. I sure hope they can issue his visa once they receive the letter from the Canadian Immigration on his status there. His case is still in AP pending the letter they just asked for. This is totally driving me crazy. Can anyone give me any feedback with him not having any status in Canada, but a pending asylum case with this letter from the Canadian Immigration can he still be issued a visa? :help:

  6. Hey Cora,

Hang in there mine is in AP as well. I sent you a private message did you ever get it? I called the Dept of State today and nothing has changed, but the lady told me that his file was touced this month. So my fingers are crossed.

  7. I finally heard from the US Consulate, but the Visa office Public Inquires is the one that replied to my email. I wonder why? Anyways there saying that the paper work that was turned into them after my husbands interview is in Administrative Processing. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. How long can you stay in Admin processing before you hear anything?

  8. mstangie,

You never mentioned, what documents did your Husband have with him at the interview to show his status/entry in to Canada - did he take anything? Did he send anything like that to NVC?

And I think he means the Department of State - to call:

    DOS phone number 202 663 1225

Trailmix he did not bring that document they gave him at the border to the interview he did not know he needed it, but he has sent it in to them the very next day. Do you know how long it usually takes for US Constlate to process paperwork after the interview to give a decision?

  9. Monday was a bad day for interviews, they asked for more information from me to. Why dont you contact the washington visa centre and ask them exactly what is required, they are VERY helpful there, and have talked me through a lot of my panic moments. I wish you guys all the best though. He is such a nice man, and clearly adores you. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers while you struggle through this.

    :)

You really made my day. I got very emotional sitting at my desk at work. How do I contact the Washington visa centre?

  10. Yes he is. Was your interview Monday the 8th? If so that was him. I really love him too and hope someday he could come home. I'm still praying. The CO is asking him for the paperwork they gave him at the border , and she will make a decision. He sent the paperwork in on the same day, and they recieved it yesterday. I don't know how long it will take to process it with a reply. Just waiting to hear some good news from them.

  11. My husband had his interview this morning. Because he is not a PR of Canada nor Canadian Citizen he was not issued a visa. He applied for assylum in Canada and is awaiting a hearing. The lady at the US Conslate said she could not make a decision and he needed to bring in the paperwork from when he crossed the border the first time into Canada. My question is will he have to wait on a hearing from Canada immigration inorder for them(US Conslate) to make a decision? So at this time his case with the US Conslate office is pending until she see's the paperwork from when he entered into Canada. Does anyone know anything about this, and that could bring me some relief. This has been going on for two years now, and with out a lawyer this was pretty hard for me to do all by myself. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

  12. I have some annoying co workers. One of them I work very closely with. I hate when you ask a co worker a question or you call there name and they reply "WHAT" that to me is so annoying. I just was not raised like that. I have gotten into a conflict with a co worker about this, and how rude it is to reply to someone in that tone and in that matter. The only time I answer someone by "What" is when I'm mad at them.

  13. When I sent in paperwork for my husband I did not send in copies of originals. Could I send my husband the copies of the original paperwork I sent NVC, and they give him back the original at his interview in Feb?
