Need to find out why they couldn't verify her status on the intital verification. Could be her DOB is incorrect or a misspelling of her name. Although one letter of her name can be incorrect and still be concidered verified. Bod Smith would be OK for Bob Smith.
From what I could see on the SAVE printout the clerk showed me everything looked fine. I asked the clerk was the problem was since I could clearly see that it appeared that she was in the database and it looked fine. The clerk said she had to verify her documents with DHS because although she was in the database the had to make sure her documents were OK. Which led me to say to her if the documents weren't legit they would have never let her in the country! This is why I am so confused as to why SSA feels the need to verify what DHS has already put in the system and had stamped her passport at the border.
-
I don't think they actually did any manual verification with DHS. I believe that process really does take 4-6 weeks. Who knows.
No she had the number right then and their. She told us that the system had already designated a number for her, but before they could release it they had to verify her documents with DHS.
-
They said they had to verify with DHS for my wife as well. However, it still only took one week to get her initial card.
When she went back to change her name, again she was told that they needed to verify with DHS. That time it took just over 2 weeks.
She was told it would take 4-6 weeks both times.
I am just wondering as to why they feel the need to take this step? As far as I can see as long as she is in good standing with USCIS than SSA shouldn't have a problem. I know that they have an issue with issuing K-1's SSN because of the high fraud rate that they found, but still this seems like we are all getting caught in the middle of a inter federal agency turf war pissing contest.

OK so I have been reading a lot of old posts on VJ and from what I could see is that k-1's are eligible for a SSN. When you go to the local SSA office they will pull her info, using their I-94 and visa/passport, to check the SAVE database to authenticate their immigration status. We should wait at least 10 -14 days for the database to update with their info. So my nightmare is this...when I took my wife down to the local SSA office they ran her through SAVE and they even showed me the print out, it shows her entering the the country on the date she flew in, the POE and her visa status (K-1). Now these yahoo's are saying that they have to verify her documents with DHS! And could take up to 4 weeks! Can anyone tell me what the hell they are talking about? When I call DHS and SSA they all say the same thing call the other agency. I don't see the need to verify her documents further with DHS if she is in the SAVE database as being here on a valid K-1! Anyone got a clue what is going on with these knuckledraggers?

I also have a Felony conviction for credit card fraud, I know stupid #### move.
Anyways I just recently had to go through this same process and I didn't tell them about mine. They only want to know about any convictions that deal with IMBRA. I had no problems with my application at all. The application say what it means, only the convictions they list on it do they care to know about up front. Too much info up front can sometimes be a bad thing. The rest they will see when they run you through the NCIC database.

Hey ya'll! Sorry I haven't been around for a while, but I have been lurking!
Congrats to everyone that has been approved I hope everything else goes smoothly! Well if I could ask everyone to keep there fingers crossed my fiance has her interview on July 16th at the Jerusalem Consulate! Hopefully if all goes well I will have my fiance and our daughter here by Thanksgiving for our big family reunion! My brother is bringing his family over from the U.K. I haven't seen them in 3 years! Wish us luck.

only annual volumes are available.. not pending #'s... You can see how many they processed last year by tpe and consulate but dont see how many are waiting by consulate at any given time...
Yea, I did find all that, but I have seen some very resourceful people on this site pop up with some great figures. I was just hoping that maybe someone already did the home work for me.

Does anyone know were I can get some stats on pending K-1 visas at the individual Embassies/Consulates? I am specifically looking for what is the current case load at the Jerusalem Consulate. I am trying to get an idea of how long it will take to get our interview there.

Good afternoon everyone,
My fiance and I are in the final stages of finishing up our Packet 3 from the consulate, but before we ship off everything I have a question about the I-134, specifically about my co-sponsor. I have asked my brother to co-sponsor for me and he agreed. He is single and his salary alone is well above the 125% mark. Firstly, on question 3 of the I-134 I know we have to put my fiance's info in there, but we have a daughter together, who is already a US Citizen, do we have to list my daughter in question 3 for child to accompany/follow even though she is a US citizen? Second on question 11 do either of us have to mark any of the boxes, or as I have seen on other questions, can we not mark any of them and put "N/A (K1 visa process for permanent residence)"? Appreciate any feed back. Cheers.

Hey ya'll, I am currently in the process of filling out my packet three for my fiance. Unfortunately I am approx. $2500/ year short to meet the 125% of poverty for a family of four and I don't have enough assets to make up the difference. I have been looking for new employment, but in this economy, so far no dice. So now since I am getting down to the wire my older brother has offered to co-sponsor. He is a US citizen, but he resides full time in the U.K. with his family. He works for an American firm over there and he still pays his U.S. taxes on top of his U.K. I need to know if he can co-sponsor since he doesn't live in the U.S anymore, but is a U.S. citizen. His salary is substantial, plus he has a good amount of assets. He can also provide IRS tax info.

Just tracked my DHL package from the NVC to Jerusalem. It was delivered yesterday!!! Time to get down to the nitty gritty!
I am including a link to a topic to show anyone how they can track their NVC packages to their Embassies/Consulates.

When you submit your I-134, you usually are asked to show your income level via tax returns. They will use that, plus the letter from his current employer to determine if he meets the required level.
If you don't - you will either need a co-sponsor (as you pointed out), or he gets more income to meet the level.
Check with your embassy for the evidence they wish to have with the I-134 -some require tax info - some do not. (mostly do)
Quick question. The DOS website: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...2994.html#Forms, They say this, "Should K-1 fiancé(e) visa applicants use the I-864 or the I-134?
Since fiancé(e)s are nonimmigrant visa applicants, they should use the I-134. They will need to submit an I-864 to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) when they adjust status to conditional immigrant in the United States after they are married.
Do the same income requirements apply to all immigrant visa applicants even if they use the I-134?
No. The 125 percent minimum income requirement, the most recent year's tax return and other requirements only apply when an I-864 is needed. Applicants using the I-134 will need to show that their sponsor's income is 100 percent of federal poverty guidelines as required under Section 212(a)(4) of the INA." So this is saying that to get them here on a K-1 visa you only have to make 100% of Poverty level. Once you AOS then the 125% kicks in, but this conflict with what everyone else is saying. Anyone know the story about this? My consulate requires the I-134.

Well, that is just plain BAD. What did VSC do with it - send it on a donkey? Please keep us all updated x
Who else is left in our October crew still waiting for NOA2? Shout out now and we'll all pull you out the black hole.
Are we all onto the next stage now? Anyone else lost on the donkey with keydymenro?
I just tried calling the NVC a few minutes ago and they are closed due to the bad winter weather winter knocking out the power. If I had to venture a guess I think that they have missed quite a few work days lately due to bad winter weather in the greater DC area. I would think that would get them behind in their workload.

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? ALERT AUTHORITIES! JAILBREAK IN PROGRESS! DOGHANDLER IS APPROVED! I CHEWED MYSELF OUT OF THE BOX! Email notification this morning 6.30am VSC time (wot they doing at VSC now, working night shift?).
Every dog has its day and to all you still waiting, you won't be waiting too much longer. VSC is back on track and if they let me through, they'll let anyone in! X
CONGRATS!!!!! I knew that yours would be coming this week. If they let me through they had to let you through.

Quick question ya'll. So once the USCIS approves the application they send it to the NVC. Will the NVC then send out a notice to us that they have received the application? Also do we have to pay any fees while we are at the NVC stage or are those collected at the consulate interview?
-
I wonder how you ask for an expediated process.
I didn't know there was an option for that.
I looked into this. Unfortunately there is no expedited service on K-1 visa's unless your beneficiary is in mortal danger, i.e. in a war zone etc. Then theses are done on a case by case basis. You can pay extra for a work visa, but this is usually done by Companies that have hired a foreigner and need them in there position quickly for business reasons.
-
Yup - I'm saying that.
The 'application of stuff' to actually get it done seems to be sporadic, so far -
i.e. - everyone with a felony conviction has NOT been sent to an ASC for ADIT (biometrics/fingerprinting)
The information comes from reading IMBRA regs and the Adam Walsh Act.
re: 3rd quarter of last year - sorry, can't cite the source, exactly - but I did read it on ILW.com that 'that portion of the act, covering fingerprinting of convicted felons' was to be instituted starting the 3rd quarter of 2009.
If I have time this week to scour ILW.com and find it again, I'm happy to post the link. IIRC, it was a 'weekly review' from one of the attornies that post there.
FWIW, there IS another VJ member here that went through exactly the same thing.
If you feel incredulous by what I wrote - well, you should be, ya? It makes no sense to me, to make this 'extra step' for Biometrics on a US Citizen that has a felony conviction - is dead easy to match up prior fingerprint records WITH the USC's ssn.
If you mean all felony convictions that are covered under the Adam Walsh Act and/or Violent in nature then I can't comment, but if you mean ALL felony convictions then that is not true. I have a felony conviction for a white collar crime and I was approved today and never asked to give me fingerprints again to the USCIS.

Mission accomplished.
High Fives all round. So happy for both you guys x
Well that's two in two days looks like they are starting to clear the backlog. Hopefully uou will get your really soon.

I'm more than ok!!!
Just got the email 10 minutes ago! Application approved! On to the next phase!! Wooohoooo!!!
:jest:
Congrats!!!! I just got mine as well about 10 minutes ago!!!!!

That is such bullshit! It should be required that if people get done with their petitions that they then move on to petitions being held by other people. Cause obviously it can't be a background check issue if people are getting their background checks done in 30 freaking days.
And it's really annoying that we missed out on the massive approvals in September and now they're back to massive approvals but we missed out on it again because we didn't file later.
That really annoys me knowing that I had to wait three months for mine and every other month except November is getting theirs in thirty days.
I agree 100% These people are starting to damage my calm!!
I knew that I was going to get hung up a bit because I did something stupid years ago and got into some trouble, but it is not one of the convictions they ask (ie: no drugs or violence). So with that said they should easily see that and go ahead and move forward now, but no they just let it rot. I am already starting to gather all my paperwork for a trip over to the Congressmans office here in town come March 15th if they don't get off there duff!
-
And to look at him in your photo, he has the look of a compliant angel! He'll "try"? LOL!
Now - calling all fellow Octoberarians who are still waiting - Eggs, Stet all you lot. Look what I've got from the November filers. Click on link below and be amazed! Warning - the content has the power to induce severe shock as well as amaze in equal proportions! when you've had a good look, come back and tell me just how mad you all are when you see just how much they've been in that December box...(Bacon, this may help you pass the time whilst waiting for your man to get on with his paperwork).
(I am not sure who the instigator of this work of genius was, I think it may have been the truly amazing Megger. Whoever the mastermind is, when I become a multi-millionnaire, I will be head hunting them to work for me).

OK that has to be one of the coolest spreadsheet ever!! Anyways I am amazed that not even HALF!! of the Oct. filers are done and they have approved more Dec. filers then Nov!!! Now I thought this was supposed to work on a first in line type scenario, maybe I am mistaken. I know that all cases are different and that some will have RFE's and some will get stuck in the background check, etc. etc., but this is ridiculous! Unfortunately there is nothing I can do at the moment because I am within the 5 month window. So I sit and wait.
The old SSN nightmare!

The letter they gave us showing that we had indeed applied for a SSN says "Before we can issue you a Social Security number card, we must verify the document(s) you gave to us to show your Citizenship Alien with the Federal, State, or local in the United States that issued the document(s). This may take up to 4 weeks." Any idea's?
