Hi all,
My wife landed earlier this year as a Canadian PR and I am intending to apply for IR-1 for her. Will this raise an issue with the embassy come interview time? Are Canadian PR allowed to apply for US GC?

Hi all, I am applying for my wife's IR-1/CR-1. We are at the NVC stage. I realized her passport is about 7 months away from expiring, and I am going to renew her passport at a Chinese Consulate in Canada (that's where she is residing now). Will the renewal cause a problem since the passport biographic page I sent in for I-130 and DS-230 is from the old passport?

I am applying IR-1/CR-1 for my wife and we are at the NVC stage. I have not received anything about the interview yet but I would like to start preparing. What do we need to bring to the interview? Do we need to have the things we bring translated (such as chat logs, emails, etc.)
Thank you.

Hi guys,
I am about to submit my wife's DS-230 and I-864, could you help me make sure this is right:
1) DS-230 Part I - my wife's name in native alphabets and signature (beneficiary)
2) DS-230 Part II - my wife's name in native alphabete, no signature required (beneficiary)
3) I-864 - my signature (petitioner)
Am I good to go?

Get your tax transcripts, that way you cover all the bases.
If your self employed, you would just have the tax returns you sent if you don't use the transcripts.
You can call the IRS and they can fax them to you within 20 mins or so. (it's free)
The transcripts are not available for returns we just filed a few weeks ago (i.e. tax return 2008), are they?

Thank you guys for such speedy reply!

Hi all, I am applying IR-1/CR-1 for my wife. Do I put "none" for Question 2 (Other Names used or Aliases - if married woman, give maiden name), or give her mother's last name as indicated?

Hi all, I am submitting my tax return for 2008 (for I-864), some people suggested that I submit supporting documents such as W2s or 1099. I have my own company so I don't have any W2s, and even my 1099s are not complete. Can I just send in my tax return or do I need to mail in all my 1099s as well? Do the tax returns have to be signed?
Thanks.

Hi all,
For the I-864 submission, do we need to submit the tax return for 2008 with original signature, or can it be a photocopy of what I submitted?
Can I also mix and match, I plan to send tax transcripts for 2006, and 2007 and my tax returns for 2008 (since it's too early to get a transcript.)
Thanks!

Hi all,
I am currently applying IR-1/CR-1 for my wife. My wife is really concerned if she would be attending the interview herself (we are not at that stage yet). She will probably be attending the interview in Montreal Canada, but she cannot speak fluent English and she is obviously nervous. Can I go to the interview with her?

Hi all,
I am applying for my wife's IR-1/CR-1, and have some questions on the DS-230 form.
Question 10 asks about the permanent address in the US where the applicant intends to live, can I put my current residence address, and are we free to move later on?

Hi all, I am applying IR-1/CR-1 for my wife and I just noticed her passport will be expiring at end of year. Does her passport have to be valid for more than six months in order for the immigrant visa to be issued to her? She holds a Chinese passport and she will be attending the interview in Montreal.

Hi all, I am submitting DS-230 for my wife, and it asks for Passport Biographic page. Is that the cover page on the passport that has personal photo and information? Are we just submitting this one page in the passport for this?
Thanks so much.

Hi all,
Question 25 of DS-230 Part I asks about dates of all previous visits to or residence in the United States, and if never, write never. But there is not a place to write never, where should I put it?

What language? More than likely the consulate in Montreal can also conduct the interview in French.

Sorry, forgot to mention that, my wife is from China so Mandarin. Will she be interviewed alone or can I be by her side?

Hi all,
I am confused whether the petitioner will have to send in their original birth certificate for NVC processing (DS-230 and I-864). I have heard people here said that it's not necessary for petitioner to mail in their original birth certificate.
On the State Dept website (http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html) it says:
"The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to submit original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity)."
Please advice.

I am applying CR-1/IR-1 for my wife, and she might be interviewed in Canada. Will she be interviewed alone or can I accompany her? Will there be a problem if she is not able to speak English fluently? Can she request for translation assistance?
Thank you.

Hi all,
I just paid for the AOS and IV fees online for my IR-1/CR-1 application. The payment instructions for AOS and IV bill fees say: Print a "Document Cover Sheet". What's document cover sheet?
Thanks.

Hi all,
For the DS-230, question 20 asks for places lived for at least six months since reaching 16. The first column heading says City or Town. Is it necessary to list the complete address or just the city/town for the first column? If we specify city only, what do you do if the beneficiary has lived in multiple address in the same city?
Thank you.

Hi all, I am very confused with some of the things on I-864. I am currently applying IR-1/CR-1 for my wife.
(<-- means I filled it out or have question what to fill in)
Part 3
8. [X]<-- I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above.
[X]<-- Yes
9. [ ] I am sponsoring the following family members ...
10. Enter the total number of immigrants you are sponsoring on this form from Part 3, Items 8 and 9. [0][1]<--
Then in 21,
Persons you are sponsoring in this affidavit:
a. Enter the number you entered on line 10 [0][1] <--
Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit
b. Yourself [1]
c. If you are currently married, enter "1" for your spouse [0] <-- is this correct since my wife is already counted in 21a?
...
h. Add together lines and enter the number here. Household Size: [0][2]
If I own my own LLC company, what do I put down for Part 6? Employed as ... or Self-employed as ...?
Part 9 Information on Preparer
Business State ID# <-- what's this?
Thank you all!

Hi all, I just paid my AOS fee bill and IV feel bill. I am working on getting the I-864 and DS-2032 done. I have one question. My wife's passport will be expired in Dec this year. Do I need to renew her passport right away? For the passport's biographic page, does it matter whether I am sending in the photocopy for the current passport or the renewed one?
Please advice.

Thank you, you guys are AWESOME.

Hi all, I just paid my AOS and IV bills for my wife's IR-1/CR-1 petition and I am ready to send in the IV package. I know through reading this forum that there will be a package sent to us before the interview. Aside from doing medical exam, what else will be in that package? Anything specifically that we need to prepare ahead of time?
Thanks.

Hi all, I am paying the AOS and IV fee online. It asks if I am the applicant or the petitioner? I am applying IR-1/CR-1 for my wife, am I the applicant or the petitioner? (I am guessing petitioner)
Interview Preparation Questions
in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures
Posted
Our interview has been scheduled recently but I have a lot of questions in regards to preparing for the interview, I hope to get your advice on this.
Things I know we should do:
1) Get medical exam done and bring the report to the interview
2) 2" x 2" photo for beneficiary (4?)
Questions
1) Do I need to bring the original interview appointment letter or can I print the one sent to me via email?
2) In the table listing documents requested by the NVC, all our document status are either C, Y, O, or F. So does that mean we don't have to bring any documents anymore? (I have listed the table below)
CORRESPONDENCE INSTRUCTIONS C
IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION Y
DS-230-II Y
PASSPORT Y
BIRTH CERTIFICATE O
ADOPTION F
MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE O
MARRIAGE TERMINATION F
COURT RECORDS F
FINANCIAL EVIDENCE Y
CUSTODY PAPERS F
MILITARY RECORDS F
CANADA POLICE CERTIFICATE O
CHINA - MAINLAND POLICE CERTIFICATE O
FEE PAYMENT F
PHOTOGRAPH Y
PETITIONER MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE F
PETITIONER BIRTH CERTIFICATE F
3) Do I need to bring the tax transcript for 2009? (I have mailed in my tax return paperwork when I filed earlier a few months ago because the transcript isn't available yet) If so does it have to be tax returns or transcripts will do?
4) What else am I missing? Any advice on how we should be prepared for the interview?
5) Am I being interviewed as well? Will I (petitioner) be present at the interview with the beneficiary (my wife)?
6) US Embassy in Montreal allows that we bring an interpreter with us. Can I be my wife's interpreter or must I hire a professional interpreter?
Thanks for your help!
