  1. Hi all,

I know I probably shouldn't ask this here, but I have spent a lot of time asking questions and reading posts here that this part of the forum and the people here are close to our hearts.

    Here goes the question:

My wife got her IR-1 visa issued and came to the US a few months ago. Since then, we have been on business trips for months at a time so we stop renting temporarily and therefore don't have a physical address anymore (we do have a mailing address). Will that be an issue for her citizenship application later? Should we continue to rent just to maintain her status?

  2. Hi all,

Do you have any tips as to one should do after an CR-1/IR-1 interview has been approved? I guess my brain is still going non-stop after doing so much paperwork for our IR-1 visa application and it's looking for more work to do. :D

Also, is there anything we should be aware of in terms of POE? We got the sheet explaining what to do after we receive our passport and the sealed letter, but I am wondering if there are other things we should be aware of as well.

  3. Thanks Jamaican JNR. The last thing I received from NVC was the appointment letter, which instructed me to get my medical exam and not much else. Should I be receiving something else from NVC or consulate?

We are attending the interview for my wife's CR-1 in Montreal soon and I have prepared the following materials to bring with us:

    1) Bona fide marriage -- photos, a few months of phone bills from prior years

    2) Financial support -- last three years of tax transcripts

    3) Proof of domicile -- bank letter, lease letter, insurance letter (auto and health), etc.

    4) Medical exam -- xray and letter

    5) Xpresspost envelope

Other than that, I have my wife go over the forms we submitted (specifically, questions in DS 230 part II) and go over some of the questions commonly asked. Aside from this, I am not sure what else to do.

Curious, how do you prepare for your interview? Is there anything else we should do other than what I mentioned above (and a positive attitude)?

You should be good with that. Did you follow the instructions on the last packet you recieve from the consulate/NVC?

  5. I was told that at the CR-1 interview, the VO will go over all the sub-questions for DS-230 question 30 with the beneficiary, is that true in your case?

Do they go over any other questions aside from this?

I am helping my wife prepare for the interview and want to make sure my wife understands the meaning of each question thoroughly before attending.

As a reminder, some of the sub-questions for DS-230 question 30 are:

"An alien who has communicable disease of public health significance; ..."

"An alien convicted of, or who admits having committed, a crime ..."

"An alien who seeks to enter for the purpose of performing skilled or unskilled labor ..."

  6. Hi all,

Have some questions on the photos to bring to our CR-1 interview.

    1) How many photos did you bring with you to your interview?

    2) Do all your photos have both of you in it?

    3) How do you organize them? Do you sort them in any way, such as by date or group them by their nature (e.g. with family, with friends, etc.)?

  7. Hi all,

I have a question on Question 30f of DS-230 Part II, which says "An alien who failed to attend a hearing on deportation or inadmissibility within the last 5 years; who seeks or has sought a visa, entry into the United States, or any immigration benefits, or", does this include people who have tried to apply for a non-immigrant visa but got rejected?

  8. Thanks OBX. Did you get yours done at the Consulate on the day of interview?

We will be interviewing in Montreal for our CR-1 visa.

The link below says to bring fingerprints.

Are fingerprints taken before or during the interview? How much money should I bring with us in case we need to pay for something?

I interviewed in Montreal. Fingerprints were taken prior to the actual interview and there was no charge. Good luck.

  9. I should have mentioned, my wife's first language is Mandarin and that's what we use to communicate as well.

We will be interviewing in Montreal for my wife's CR-1 this month. She has been stressing out about her English. She is worried that her speed in answering questions, incorrect grammars, accents, etc. will make her answers seem less convincing. The fear of not understanding what's asked of her is nerve-wrecking as well. I tried to calm her down but I am hoping any advice or tips you may provide based on your experience on this can ease her nerve a bit.

Any advice or tips? Should we get an interpreter on our side just in case? (I have inquired and Montreal allows us to bring interpreter)

    Thank you.

I would be surprised if an interpreter is not available at the Embassy and also if the CO does not speak French. Call them and find out otherwise bring your own. You'll be OK.
