  1. oh I feel for you hon...my boyfriend is heading back to Canada in just 2 hrs :( I'm going crazy..its almost as if I want him to leave already so I can get it over with..he's been here for 3 months, and we won't see each other again til about mid April. He only has about 60 days left til June 16th(of his 180 days)

He was denied once at the POE for not having a return ticket...but thats because I told him not to get one because we thought he might take a plane rather then a bus home...my mistake, he got the info they requested and he was admitted entry 2 days later.

I haven't visited this site in some time..I have been enjoying our time together...but I know I will be visiting here more often now that he is leaving. It is so nice to be around people who understand. My family absolutely loves him and when they met him over the holidays they understood more why we go through this being apart...LDR do suck!! But he is so worth it..and like that one woman said (sorry he's giving the twins a bath and I forgot your name, I was laughing at them) it will all be a thing of the past before you know it!!

Lots of hugs hon...in a very short time, I' am going to be missing him like crazy :(

  2. Oh word of advice, don't go clamming without a permit. We found that out the hard way and got caught by the authorities who informed us it's not only illegal to gather clams in R.I. (or anywhere probably), but it's also a felony offence. We were lucky and got off after he realized by brother had just moved there...

That is the kind of good stuff i need to know....

however quahogs are a different story...we used to go digging(with our feet) for quahogs on Ocean drive in Newport...we called to ask if we needed a permit first...and they said, if ya can find em there...then you can keep em.

Lobster traps are absolutely off limits...even if one washes ashore you don't touch it!!

Dels lemonade is the best stuff ever and Rhode Islanders are the worst drivers in the entire world!!

  3. we put up our Christmas tree as well, this is the first year that my twins(who are 3) really understand Christmas..even though they think Christmas is a person lol...but now keeping them from touching all the "sparkly" lights and ornaments is the next task at hand *sigh*

I'm still new at this stuff and have no idea what a NOA is...but thats great!!

And I LOVE Mondays....kids go back to school, yaaaay!! haha

  4. yes, but he lives in Canada...I'm sorry if I didn't clarify that...I am from the US and he is from Canada...he has spent about 9 months in Canada during 2008 and the other 3 here in the US...I'm including the month of Dec in with those 3 months..

  5. I am not legally divorced yet...but all the paperwork has been filed...do I have to wait to for us to apply for a K1 until the divorce is final? That takes about 90+ days...or can we apply and wait since my divorce will be final while we are waiting for the K1 to go through?

Roughly how long does it take for a K1?

  6. my boyfriend is from Ottawa, he's not a hockey fan at all though..My cousin used to play for the Canadians(Matthieu Schneider) but I'm the sports fanatic, or let me correct that..I'm a WICKED huge Boston Red Sox fan..and I would love to have a wedding at Fenway Paaahk...so your wedding sounds perfect and congrats to the both of you...

I'm also new to this forum..but already have found so much helpful information...the people here are fantastic!!

    Welcome!!

  7. Have to check out Newport Creamery!! Super milkshakes--or as they refer to them as "Awful Awful!!" There is actually a RI slag for a milkshake as well, but it slips my mind!! Where in RI are u moving to?

    Frappe....

and awful awful's are AWFULLY YUMMY!!!

another thing you have to have is Cawfee Milk...my boyfriend who is from Ottawa had never heard of it before...after his first visit here in June I sent him home with a bottle....he LOVED it!!

Warwick is the home of the Ghost Hunters(show on sci-fi) TAPS and also has the best chinese food ever!! I have traveled to Warwick on a few occasions just to go to the House of Wu...they have the biggest scorpion bowls I've ever seen haha

and RI also has what are called hot weiners lol...don't ask me what they are exactly..I just know you can't find them in Mass and they are good. The square pizza with no cheese was what I craved when I was pregnant with my twins...

  9. Yes, but we all are smoothing over the fact here that he was already denied entry once and that he stayed 9 months in 2008. That to me, regardless of vagueness of rules, is going to raise some red flags.

are you talking to me? Cause he hasn't stayed for 9 months...and he was only denied entry because he needed to show his ties to Canada, and they wanted to make sure he had enough money to support himself while here...once he provided that he had no problems at all...

  10. well I didn't make the move...but having lived there and living literally on the mass/ri border I could tell you the coolest places to go and eat...and I never got a RI drivers license..but the test can't be the different from Mass...

and yeah, they do tawk pretty wacky...*keeps mouth shut* haha

  11. first off...I'm sorry about your loss.

2nd...I have had 4 c-sections and my last one which was over 3 yrs ago now...was with twins, and they were HUGE for twins..8lbs 11oz and 9lbs 15oz..my stomach stretched beyond my wildest imagination...the day before my planned c-section I was measuring 60 wks... :o so my stomach stretched more then any womens body should ever stretch and my c-section scar never once even remotely came close to opening up..

My first pregnancy I was in labor for 36 hours all natural...that was 15yrs ago and I can tell you that I have forgotten how bad it hurt..ha! I have a friend who had a vbac(vaginal birth after csection) and she did fine with it. I tried for one with my 2nd child..but I just couldn't get past 8 cm's. It can happen...speak to your Dr about it when you are thinking about getting pregnant again..and good luck!!

  12. snap peas are REALLY yummy in lo mein or a stir fry...

    we're having Chicken Parm..

and to respond to the fried chicken...I HATE KFC its so nasty...I make my own, its a lot easier then you would think..and its yummy!!

  13. thank you!! I"m so glad I'm not the only one who is confused...we are over here counting each day he has been here to visit since June...

he is here beside me and he also says thank you!!

But I am confused as well...

  14. thank you everyone....

well he first came here in June for 3 days, then in july for 5 days..in sept for 16 days...and now has been here about 60 days...

so it will be from June-June? man this is so confusing...but I'm glad we know this now he was planning on coming back late Feb for 90 days...but that obviously can't be the case....

    Thank you!!

  15. You're suppose to reside in your home Country for more time in one year (not a calandar year) than you are in the U.S. So, for Canadians, although they can stay 'longer' ...they still need to follow that unwritten rule. They will consider past visits as well as length of stay on each visit.

Coming back in February, with a USC g/f and without ties (job) to Canada, will most likely add extra scrutiny to his entry in February.

It is up to the port of entry officer to decide whether he is allowed to visit and for how long that visit can be. If he/she suspects immigrant intent upon his next arrival into the U.S., he will not be allowed to enter.

not a calender year? He spent 9 months plus in Canada during 2008...

This last trip he wasn't allowed entry the first time...he needed to bring in proof of his ties to Canada...he has a house in Canada, he had to show proof that he had enough funds to support himself during his stay...etc, etc and he presented that to the guard a few days after he was denied entry and they let him in. He had a return ticket(he took a bus) the ticket didn't have a return date on it.....Peter Pan bus lines don't ever have return dates on their tickets. But the Guard didn't give him a date he had to be back...

  16. As a Canuck, one can stay up to 6 months a in a year (not 90 days) of course during this time, he shouldn't be working, just visiting!

here is a chart that compares the K1, K3 and cr-1 visas

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=compare

well he can stay 6 months total right? he was told that he had 90 days total each trip...and that he could make 2 90 day trips if he wanted or he could spread the 6 months out over the course of the year...

and he's not working, he has only been visiting...but he has worked in the States before on a TN visa...and was hoping to find a job here so he could do the same..

Thank you so much for the link...I'm off to check it out!!

oh I didn't know that....so when he returns in late February he can stay for 180 days well minus the 10 he will have been here in January?

Thank you so much...its great to finally have some answers...

  18. I'm new here...I did post in the new members section...My boyfriend is from Ottawa and I'm from Massachusetts

we are lost as to what steps to take to get him to stay here for longer then 90 days...he's been here now since October 14th and has to go back in January. We do not want to get married right now...so any help with what our other options might be would be soooo greatly appreciated!!!!!

I have children and I can't just up and move to Canada...although our long term goal would be all of us living in Canada. But not for another 2 yrs at least. I would have thought it would be easier for a Canadian to gain access to the US.

We just don't understand "govermentese" as he calls it.

He is a graphic artist and can get a TN visa if he found a job here...but with the way this country is right now...its really hard to find any job.

I really look forward to getting to know all of you....

    Enjoy your day,

    Jennifer! : )
