Our story is similar-- by the time my husband and I married, we'd only spent about two months in each other's presence. However, I think my friends and family bit their tongues most of the time, or at least had the decency to complain about my choices behind my back! The only thing you can do is prove them wrong by being happy. Be happy. Thrive! It will drive them crazy.

We completed our journey at the USCIS office in Atlanta this morning! We arrived slightly before 8AM as the oath ceremony letter instructed, and then participants were directed to a waiting room on the 2nd floor while friends and family were directed to a waiting room on the 3rd floor. We waited for a little over an hour before the ceremony could begin because of a software glitch that USCIS had been furiously trying to repair since the night before. At one point, they suggested to my husband that the whole ceremony could be cancelled, but thankfully that was not the case. They finally called us all into the ceremony room, and I sat about three rows back behind my husband, between friends and family members of other new citizens from Scotland and Jamaica. We watched a video with images of immigrants over the last hundred or so years, and then we were welcomed by a local official. She called the name of each country represented that day (54, I think) and asked each participant to stand as their country's names were called. Then she administered the oath, we listened to "The Star Spangled Banner", we said the Pledge of Allegiance, watched a welcome video from President Obama, and watched a music video for Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA". As the ceremony concluded, each row of participants (there were probably close to 100) was called to a window and issued their certificates of naturalization. Then it was over! The League of Women Voters were there to help new citizens register to vote, and everyone was free to take pictures with their friends and family. We were out by 10:30AM.
We drove out to the social security office to update John's record because we figured that since we had the day off, we might as well go ahead and get it taken care of now-- but we read in the packet of materials after we got home that you're supposed to wait 10 days! Whoops! We have an appointment to get a passport on April 18, and then we'll be all set.
Thank you so, so much to everyone in this thread and to VisaJourney in general. It has truly been a godsend in what has been a nerve-wracking process. America!

John's interview in Atlanta this morning was successful! The IO did not ask to see any of the paperwork we brought to demonstrate our ongoing marriage, although to be fair, he did see me in the waiting room so he knew John's wife was there to support his application. John said it was quick and simple, and the one hiccup we were worried about-- when John was denied entry/returned to the UK from the Atlanta airport in 2008-- was not of any concern to the IO at all. The wait for the interview as long (our appointment time was 8:25AM, but the interview did not happen until 10:00AM), but overall, the experience was fairly painless and we are pleased. The IO gave John a document that said he was recommended for approval and that official approval with an oath ceremony date would arrive in the mail in a few weeks. Hope this helps ATL people and those who went through a denied entry early in your process. Good luck to everyone!

dose your update said your interview has been scheduled and (letter has been sent ) or interview has been scheduled , you will receive an notice with the time and place for ur interview ???
I'm sorry, Haboush, I'm not quite sure what you're asking? We received an update from USCIS on Jan. 28 that said our interview had been scheduled, and then received a letter about 10 days later with the interview date.

Haboush, it took about 10 days for our interview letter to come. Has there been a lot of snow and ice where you are? Perhaps there have been delays in mail delivery because of weather problems.

Got the email from USCIS that we have been scheduled for an interview! Unfortunately Atlanta is in serious weather shutdown mode so it may be several days before we get our interview letter, but we're pleased to know that it's on the way!

Updating in-line dates for Leelee1986 and me! I also cleaned up the weird gray background that showed up in the code and put MyJourney400 in the correct order on the Phoenix list. So glad that people are already receiving interview letters! That's amazing! In Atlanta, their most recent processing date is April 30 so I think we're in for a long wait...

My husband was denied entry/"given the opportunity to withdraw his application for admission" years ago, before we filed for the K1. After a lot of searching and asking around, it became evident that this experience was common enough and would have "no impact" on our visa process. However, it would have been nice if there had been a thread or an FAQ specifically devoted to people who had been denied entry for whatever reason in order to gather anecdotal data about their experiences. It was a really scary thing at the time.

Finally received our NOA in the mail today! I listed our NOA date as 11/01/13 because that's the "Notice Date" printed on it, but we didn't actually receive it until 11/09/13. We received electronic notification on 11/05/13 that our application had been accepted.

Congratulations, KAT & A! I know it must be such a relief!
We got an RFE today. We did not show any financial co-mingling for the year 2009. There wasn't a lot, because John didn't work in 2009, but we will try to get some old bank statements. The fact that we just bought a house together should help. We are relieved, though-- an RFE means they didn't lose our file and someone actually looked at it!

Well, we didn't receive the dreaded "security checks" letter yet, but we did get a letter regarding the service request we filed on August 20. It said "Your case is currently under review. You should receive a decision or notice of other action within 60 days of the date of this letter." We liked what they told Sen. Isakson's office better (30 days).
Anyway, the postscript on the letter said that we are required BY LAW to change our address within 10 days of moving. We did not realize it was 10 days, so we, with much gnashing of teeth, filed our change of address online. Of course halfway through we realized that our browser was incompatible, and then learned that all Mac-compatible browsers are incompatible, and it only works with IE. So after cranking up an ancient Toshiba we had in a box in the closet, we started all over again and refiled the online AR-11 to change our address. Then we realized that it will let you change your address for the I-751, but not the CR189. So we called USCIS (It's been an awesome Tuesday night around here!) and the customer service representative told us that we didn't need to call and that we didn't need to change the address on the CR189. (My guess is that this is why so many address changes fail at USCIS. The CR189 doesn't know what the I-751 is doing. That's a guess.)
We're buckling our seatbelts. No six-month letter for us yet, but my guess is that this bureaucratic nightmare is far from over for us, too.

I have a former student who came to the US on the VWP from Argentina when she was seven years old. Now in her late 20s, she has married a US citizen and is an LTR, citizenship application pending.
Her little brother is about to turn 21 and is a natural-born US citizen. He wants to petition for both their parents. Supposedly, he went to see an attorney who told him that he could not petition for both parents at the same time-- this is incorrect, yes? Unless it's because he can't meet the I-864 minimum sponsorship requirements.
My concern is that while both her parents entered the US legally on the VWP, it was nearly 30 years ago and they have been out-of-status all this time. Will that time be forgiven as it is with spousal visas?
