  1. I-551 is the form number for the Permanent Resident Card (green card). An I-551 stamp is placed into a passport as a temporary substitute for a valid green card. A foreign passport with an I-551 stamp inside is proof of legal presence, and authorizes employment and travel abroad during its period of validity. You can see one at http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=14692

If you need one, you can make an InfoPass appointment to visit your local USCIS office: http://infopass.uscis.gov

Thanks, guess that means he needs two, one when his GC expires and his Passport hasn't yet and one after he has his new passport.

Ughhhh, why so complicated, its not like we are the first ones in this situation.

  2. Hopefully they do start picking up the pace soon ;) My Biometrics appointment is next week - I'm glad we'll be able to get it done soon too ^_^

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what to do and whether your son will be receiving a separate NOA...maybe someone else will be able to shed some light on this?

It might be a good idea to call USCIS and ask them. If they won't be sending a separate NOA, maybe your son could get an I-551 stamp on his passport?

    We will call USCIS.

Do you have any further info on that I-551 stamp, where to get it and what it is for?

  3. Received my NOA today, its dated 1/30/2012.

And after the initial feeling of relief, I realize now that we do have a situation here. Hope anyone here has an idea on what to do.

The I-751 is on my name, but I used it for my now 17 year old son also. He got his green card a few days after me.

The NOA is on my name only and I am assuming this is the only one we get and it doesn't mention my son, who has my ex's last name.

His card expires in March also , a few days after mine and in June he's supposed to travel to his father in Europe. He also needs to renew his passport just before that and needs to show his GC for that.

Seen his age, he travels alone. I was supposed to go to Spain in June.

    What to do?

  4. Friday I got my notice from the USCIS that it is time to remove conditions.

So, we're back here where we got so many good answers and reassurance when the nerves hit during this long, long ride.

I've been looking through the papers and most of it is pretty clear, my 16 year old son can file with me since he got his card within 90 days after I got mine and I am assuming, like always, we have to pay for everything twice, for me and him.

What isn't really clear for me after reading is the fingerprinting.

My guess is that we just have to add the money for the biometrics and we will get an appointment to have our fingerprints taken ?

Or do we have to organize that ourselves?

And is there anything else I need to do to file for my son besides adding his name to part 5 of the I-751?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  5. I thought I'd post here hoping anyone can advice me on Netherlands Police certificates, we got a RFE from the NVC saying that they needed the police certificate and I thought that for the netherlands we didn't have to initiate it and that was the NVC's job to request it through the consulate, husband is going to call the consulate tomarrow morning, I hope they can give us an answer as to what we are suppose to do? Anyways just wanted to know if any of you have had this problem regarding the police certificate, where did we go wrong?

    Thanks =),

    Jen and Geert

Yes, in the Netherlands you don't have to go after the police certificates yourself, that is all done for you.

Let us know what the consulate says.

  6. For the passport a dog needs to be chipped, so you'll have to have it chipped no matter what in the Netherlands. Mine are chipped in Spain and the Netherlands and our vet here in Pennsylvania can read the chips.

Yes, read the rules from the company you are flying with.

Are you or another person flying with the puppy?

    How big will it be?

If it is still very young and not too big you may be able to bring it with you in the cabin, if not, you have to look at the temperatures also, above and below certain temperatures they won't fly pets.

Also find out what the rules are for importing a dog in Portland, rules differ per state and for some states you need a license.

  7. Hi everyone else......did you all have a good weekend??

Had a great weekend, no fathers day celebration though. My son is in Europe for the summer.

But Jack and I went to a lavender festival, out for dinner and a play on Saturday. Yesterday we had a lazy day, just a visit to the bookstore. We can spend hours there

I'M GOING CRAZY HERE! OVER A MONTH AND NO INTERVIEW DATE YET! :(

 Hope you hear something really soon now!

Loved Avatar myself, but than I am a fantasy lover.
