  1. That pretty expensive for a trip from Philippines to USA

We are talking about Davao to Manila, One way flight runs about $50 or 2200 peso on average....

yes, that's about right and more because if the cost for the visa is $160x2= 320; plus plane and hotel or motel because they probably want to stay there near the embassy for 2 days or more for the interview.

  2. I am a USC who recently get my fiancée's k1 visa approved. I wanted to invite her parents to come to the wedding and visit some landmarks in Los Angeles. They are both older (father is 75, mother is 70 y/o) and retired. They have their home and farm in Davao City, and they have their grandchildren there in the Philippines. Her parents are active in their church and have assignments to do in the Philippines. These things should be enough for proof that they will return to their home after a 2 week stay in California? I want to help them fill out the DS-160 application. My questions are:

    1) what should they put in the "immediate relatives in the US" section? Their daughter has not moved out here yet and I am not the son-in-law yet.

    2) What should they respond in the US contact under relationship about me as their daughter's fiancé? would it considered "other relative" or "friend" or "other"?

    3) I will be supporting them on the trip for airfare, transportation, and staying at my home. Would a letter of sponsorship and invitation letter be helpful? (They can't afford to pay for the trip and I will be paying for them).

    4) How long does it take to get an interview at the Embassy and then it get the visa? (We are planning on getting married some time in the end of August and want them to be there for it). Is there enough time for them get the tourist visa?

What is your experience in the process?

Congratulations! I am guessing that her parents have a good chance because the consul will not think of them not coming back in the Philippines and if you have the resources to finance all the expenses esp. the visa fee (pass or deny), give it a try.

    1. not sure

    2. not sure

    3. No need for you to write the Invitation letter or anything like that but no harm for them to have it in the interview if you really want for them to have one but I advice not to give it to the consul unless they ask something like that. Because they will ask her parents on their interview and it was also one of the question in DS-160 right?, so they know that you will be paying for all the expenses.

    4. Based on our experienced my mother submitted DS-160 March 30 or 31 and made an interview appointment for April 13, on that day she found out that she's approved and after 3 days she got her passport with stamped (10 years visa)

The interview was very fast, and she had all the documents she could have to prove that she is coming back to the Philippines, but the consul didn't asked for any documents. Her parents can ask for the interpreter too if they can't speak or understand English.

  3. Hi guys!

They said that single status applicants are usually denied to interview despite the their documents because of lack of strong ties.

My wedding is going to be this october. I have already my visa and will be flying to US by July.

My sister ( my maid of honor) and my friend (my bridesmaid ) are anxious of applying visa and be denied at the interview because they have heard a case like them who got denied at the interview. Can anybody give us some tips how to answer the consulate for them not to be denied.

    Thanks

Hi Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, this is nothing to do with your question but I just want to give you a heads up just in case your sister and your friend won't be able to come to your wedding. Have another option for your big day, If you have any relatives or family member here in US. I think this will be the best time to contact them so they can be part of your wedding. Because its true it is hard for them to get a tourist visa even though they will say they want to be part of your wedding day.

If your friend or sister probably can show a strong ties that they will coming back in the Philippines that might help. Because the consul might base their questions on the proofs that they will show. It is very hard to get a tourist visa but nothing wrong if they want to try it who knows.... maybe they might get lucky. :)

  4. Hello!

    Just have one question.

If a visit visa is approved, how long for the passport (with visa stamped) be available for pick up?

Thank you in advance for your replies!

Hi there, my mother got approved this Monday April 13 and she got her passport (with stamped) today April 16. It was very fast.. :)

  5. Hello,

I have a ticket the month of April 2015 to stay in Alabama. When i enter the USA the immigration officer stamp June 19 2015 for my time that I should stay here in the USA. I want to extend my ticket,

Should extend my ticket to the date in my passport?

If do that will my USA visa be taken away from me when I return to Jamaica or the next time I revisited the USA?

    Please help. Thank you.

Ladilady, I have a question if you don't mind. What are the questions that the immigration asked you in your port of entry? My mother don't speak and understand English well so I want to prepare her. She is coming in US on July 11 and staying with us for 3 months. She have a multiple visa (10 years) validity. But it depends on the immigration here (port of entry) how long she can stay. But we will get her a round trip ticket for 3 months, we will just change the ticket going back to the Philippines whatever the immigration decided.

  6. Congrats Dalyn!

My parents' interview schedule is in 2 weeks. Crossing my fingers they will get the same result as yours. How did your mom request for an interpreter? Did she ask before she even got to the window for the interview with the consul?

When she got to the window she told the Consul that she can't understand or speak English well so the Consul asked her if she wants to have an interpreter and she said Yes, definitely :).

  7. It won't be for awhile. Mom is still waiting for her passport. It seems to take longer now (wife got her passport in a week, a couple years ago) Mom's passport won't be ready until May 5th. grrrr....

Sorry Dalyn. When it happens I'll definitely post her experience. If you go first, can you do the same?

BTW, we are gathering as much paperwork as possible. Property paperwork, signed letter from Mayor of Daram stating vacation allotment, bank account info (MIL will open a bank account while waiting for her passport), proof that kids are out of school once the current semester ends (not sure to go about that but will figure it out), maybe have her daughter who lives with them create a letter stating Mom is main provider, needs to return and also daughter will care for kids while mom is gone, her mid-wife certificate as proof of other work, husband's death certificate (hope that will help to show that she IS the main provider and needs a vacation having "solely" cared for her family since) whatever paperwork from kids' school that will help (investigating that now).

It is all a shot in the dark. Learned a little here so we are making up the rest as we go along. Keep you posted.

    Aloha

Hey there, I would like to let you know that my mother passed her interview yesterday. She was interviewed for less than 5 minutes and she said she had a very good experience because they accommodated her request for her to have a interpreter, Plus take note they didn't look or asked for any documents. They asked her a few questions about me and ofcourse mostly about her. She was just very honest on all of their questions like:

    1. Who will paying for her trip? which is me and my husband here.

    2. Who is supporting her because she is not working? She said me, her daughter since after my college I had been supporting them and yes until now but she mentioned she also have a youngest son who is also helping her out.

    3. How long is she staying in US? She said 2 months, by late summer to fall

    4. If she is thinking to get a citizenship in here? She said a big NO, it is very COLD in New Hampshire...

That was it and the consul asked for her passport and gave my mother a thumbs up. She was so surprised and asked them if she is all set?? Because after all of our preparation, meaning all the documentation and paper work, they didn't asked any of it. I am not complaining but my mother was hahaha.. So thankful to God and we will see her on 1st week of Aug this year and then planning for her to go back to the Philippines by mid or end of October.

But be prepared for documentation maybe my mother just get so lucky that they didn't asked any documents from her but according to her there are so many out there in her batch that they were asking for them to show some supporting documents.

Hope your mother in law will pass her interview too, that will help your wife emotionally too.. Because seeing her Mom around while she is giving birth and someone will take care of her and her baby..that is a big deal...Goodluck!

  8. Hi to all, my mother have her interview on April 13, 7:15 am and we will try to provide all the documents that might help on her interview especially evidence that she will return to the Philippines. I am praying she will pass, so she can come here at Summer time. And I really don't want to go on the route that I will apply for her to come here as immigrant if she will only stay here for 2-3 months and she will lose her status because she can't stay in US because of the weather/health.

I will keep you posted and definitely share her experience in here. Pass or Deny :)..

  9. Mom wants to be here as long as is allowable. WE want her here for at least 3 months, until my wife is healed and can manage more on her own.

Does your Mom, already passed the interview? Please can you share what requirements & questions on the day of her interview. I am preparing for my Mom to have her interview but we want to gather all documents that might help her to pass the interview. Thank you.

  10. I am sure this has been answered, however me and my wife will file for her removal of temp GC and apply for the 10 year green card. My question is, we will apply in the 90 day window before her temp GC expires, how long does it usually take to receive the 10 GC? I know we get the extension etc etc, I just want a time frame 2 months, 8 months? average time she will get it?

it varies, mine was more than 7 months because they asked for more additional documents. But as long as you apply before her 2 GC expires she will be all set.

  11. Azelle, check this website..I also highlighted the #3 because when I applied to renew my passport last 2012 they asked me to present my greencard and another valid ID which is my State ID. I am not sure but if you have a valid ID here in US maybe they will not ask you to present your greencard .

    http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/index.php?page=consular-services-main/faq-main/

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (to be submitted along with other requirements specific to case):
    1. Duly-accomplished passport application form, typed or printed legibly in black or blue ink
    2. Latest original passport and one photocopy of data page of passport (original will be returned)
    3. Proof that applicant has not applied for foreign citizenship, e.g. resident alien card
    4. Self-addressed return envelope, with appropriate stamps for express or priority mail with tracking numbers via US Postal Service, or with pre-paid mailing envelope from private courier of choice, if Passport is to be mailed back.
    5. Passport fee of $60.00 (non-refundable), payable in cash, or money order, bank draft, certified check or cashier’s check, made payable to "Embassy of the Philippines" (or "Philippine Consulate General", if application is made at one of the Philippine Consulates General in the U.S.). Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted.
  12. It says here in your case that Invitation Letters and Letters of Financial Affidavit are not considered helpful

I would even think trying to provide a letter of Financial Responsibility would even be even more reason for a CO to deny a Tourist Visa

    http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwhniv7.html

I sent out a Affidavit of Financial Support anyways, I told my Mother not to show it if they will not ask any documents from us or where she will stay or who will pay for her visits here. Overall that letter will be just there just in case. I am not sure why its hard to get a old mother/father to visit us here in United States. I understand the fact if it just a relatives, the chances of being illegal is higher. But with the parents, it doesn't make any sense especially if they have the contact information of the person they are visiting in here.

  13. Getting a nanny here in US is very expensive, he is thinking to pay her not that crazy amount he is paying now and helping her (our Aunt) at the same time.. I know what you guys are talking about.

There are so many advantage having our Aunt living with them, so they might try the H2B visa and about this below..its kinda rough because for sure there are available nanny's around his area.

The downside is that the host family must be able to show that there are no available US workers for the job and that the work is temporary in nature.

  14. Hi all! I just wanted to get advice on what you guys think will be the probability my fiance's visa will be approved or denied. We have already surpassed everything the next step just being our interview. I am the petitioner. Me and my fiance recently graduated with our Bachelor's in the Philippines last May. I got pregnant at the end of July so once i came back here to the United States i was not able to get a job right away. We are using my mom as our co sponsor who makes almost 4x more than the requirements or above the poverty line. I hear that using a co sponsor in the K1 process is often denied, but I hear it also depends on our case. Does the fact that we are new graduates and I am already 7 and a half months pregnant give us a better chance of accepting my mom as our co sponsor? I did not know of filing to apply for a K1 visa would give us a hard time in terms of using a co sponsor ahead of time. What do you guys think?

Hi congratulations on your coming baby, I think co-sponsor is Ok but as far as I know in Affidavit of Support you need to have a current job or income.

  15. I want to inquire here if what kind or type of visa can my Aunt apply to get here in US working as a nanny. My cousin have 3 kids and he would like to get my Aunt a working visa so she can work for him as a Nanny. They don't even know how to start. My Aunt is coming from the Philippines and she worked as a Nanny from different countries already and that's why they thought of it instead of her applying to another country to a new family why not just hire her to work for him.

    Thanks.

  16. Yes I do provide an invitation letter but the CO doesn't really care about it. They don't even look the documents at all. If you really want your mom, she can apply for a tourist visa. It doesn't cost that much. If she get approve, she's lucky but if not then you can apply an immigrant visa for her.

Yes, we will try. I will let you know how it will goes. Crossing our fingers though because I don't want to apply her an immigrant visa then she will not stay here for that long.

  17. Some Filipino's advise me to just apply her an immigrant visa because the percentage that she will be denied is less..unfortunately the fact is she can't stay here that long because of the weather and boredom for sure. Realistic, she can only stay with us for 2-3 months. And if she likes it in here she can come back and visits us even every 2 years.. but first of all we want to get her a tourist visa.

  18. Hi.. getting tourist visa is 50-50 chance. My mom applied last year and denied. But its always worth a try because its not that expensive.

oatmeal, i just want to ask did you actually tried to show a invitation letter re: Financial responsibility affidavit for your mother?

and to all here, my mother is taking care of my autistic brother for 30 years and she can't really be far from him that long but the main reason why i want her to visit in US is she's been always sick and hospitalized this past few years. and i really want her to meet my husband's family and to experience the life style here in US before she really get to the point that she wont be able to travel anywhere. please advise me if what is the best course of action or best documents that we can show to prove that she's coming back in the Philippines.

  19. hello to all, its been awhile since i logged here. i have a questions, i am a green card holder and I am planning for my mother to apply a tourist visa next year. i am not sure what are the requirements that she needs to submit or we need to provide. She don't have a lot of property or money in the Philippines but the plan is for her not to spend any penny because we will be paying for everything. I know i read somewhere that she needs to submit documents & to prove that she will come back to PI.

I just want some advice if anyone here have the same scenario like us. We are planning to have a vacation next year and I really hope that she can come with us because she can't travel alone anymore because of her knee problem, plus she can't speak English well and having a hard time to understand English too. I just want her to see what kind of life we have here and to experience life in US even just for 2-3 months. By the way she is 62.

    Thanks.

  20. Though I cannot guarantee the results of her interview, the fact that you went through a K1 procedure rather than the often B2 -> AOS ("gosh, I changed my mind") - > GC would represent some equity, if I were a consular official...in other words, you took no shortcuts, no creative stories, etc, to wind up married to an Amcit. Contrast your situation to all the countless thousands who 'promised' they would return, but instead (usually within minutes of clearing baggage claim) 'changed their minds' and stayed put in the US using a tourist visa, or those who outright lied to our consular officials about even having an American BF/GF or fiancee....these are the people who cause other legitimate applicants problems...because, (put yourself in a CO's place)...how many times are you going to be taken advantage of before you stop falling for the same stories and promises? (not long!)

    Anyway, good luck.

Well, I heard a lot of stories like that. But my mother is old, and she doesn't even want to stay here for long period of time especially just hearing the weather here in New England. Just praying that we will have enough documents/supporting documents. I just want her to be here before I give birth. I don't know what proof I need to show for them to believe. But I guess we will try showing her assets and plus doctor's certificate or DSWD certificate that she's the one who is taking care of my brother.
